Chapter 158 Waitomo Glowworm Caves

After playing in the Setina River springs for a while, Li Yao took out the yacht, released 6834 and Dazhuang, had lunch there, and then started choosing the next place while eating.

In the end, Li Yao chose the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, drawn by their mysterious blue light.

The fireflies of Waitomo and the fireflies of the Dragon Kingdom are two completely different creatures.

The fireflies of the Dragon Kingdom are small beetles that mostly live in areas with lush vegetation and only drink water or eat pollen and nectar.

Waitomo's glowworms are two-winged insects that mostly live in caves. Each glowworm can produce up to 70 transparent threads, the longest of which are nearly 20 centimeters long.

They rely on their own faint light to attract and capture other insects as food, thus surviving.

The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are located in the Hamilton-Waikato region of North Island, North New Zealand, and are one of the country's most magical attractions.

Hidden within the Waitomo Glowworm Caves is a breathtaking world—a labyrinthine underground world comprised of dreamlike glowworms, stalactites and caves of various shapes, and countless underground rivers and streams.

Thousands upon thousands of fireflies shimmered and sparkled inside the cave, like stars in the sky. Some have called this natural wonder the "ninth wonder of the world."

To visit the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, you must take a boat in and then walk up to the bridge.

As the guide pulls the rope to propel the small boat forward, you will gradually enter pitch-black darkness.

As you continue forward, you'll see shimmering light on the water's surface. It turns out that the sky above is already filled with fireflies, like a starry night, creating a gently flowing river of light.

The countless stars reflected on the water's surface, like a myriad of pearls in a mirror, are breathtakingly beautiful. This dreamlike scene will surely leave you in awe, marveling at the wonders of the Creator.

Waitomo Caves consists of three distinct caves: Waitomo Glowworm Caves, Ruakuri Cave, and Alanui Cave.

The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are a rare living rock cave and New Zealand's most famous natural wonder.

The cave has entrances at both the top and bottom, attracting many insects to breed inside. Among them, fireflies, which are predatory insects and resemble spiders, are the most unique inhabitants of the cave.

Fireflies spit out one sticky thread after another, like beads, and the green glow emanating from their tails clings to the upper part of the cave, like a starry sky.

In Maori, Waitomo means "surrounded by green water." On the cave walls, layers upon layers of scattered green lights shimmer on the dark water, amplifying the interplay of light and shadow—a wondrous world belonging to green spirits.

Boating through the glowworm caves feels like traveling through the Milky Way.

Li Yao passed through the teleportation portal and arrived at the entrance of the exhibition hall outside the scenic area, which houses a restaurant, cafe, exhibition hall, small theater, and gift shop.

However, no one has been here for a year, and it's all covered in dust.

There was a notice posted at the entrance of the scenic area, indicating that the area was temporarily closed during the rainstorm season, and the date on the notice was May of last year.

Li Yao used her mental power to sense the surrounding area. The fireflies inside the cave included both mutated and non-mutated species, but their overall level was very low, only around level 2 or 3.

Further in, there is a top-level one, which is level 6.

To avoid spoiling her enjoyment, Li Yao unleashed the pressure of her level 11 mental power.

All the fireflies started to swarm, but soon returned to order.

Li Yao guessed that the level 5 firefly leader had done something, so she used her voice, imbued with mental power, to say to the Insect King, "Please treat me as a tourist; I'm here to observe."

As they spoke, they stepped into the wormhole.

Although the Firefly King was unhappy about the strange two-legged creatures coming to their territory, it was no match for them, and it could sense that killing it would be as easy as crushing an ant.

The firefly watched the two-legged creature enter, hesitated for a long time without reaching a conclusion, and could only tell all its underlings to continue doing what they were doing before, but not to provoke the two-legged creature.

Li Yao entered the cave, and just as the promotional video had described, it was pitch black inside. You couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

But if you walk a little further, you can see some faint blue lights.

Li Yao used her mental power to carefully observe the mutated firefly. It was about the length of a middle finger, had two wings, and secreted bead-like sticky threads that hung down from the top of the cave. These threads were about the length of a forearm, clearly different from the videos Li Yao had seen; they were much longer.

This worm is said to grow old without a mouth but with wings. It will desperately communicate to lay eggs, and then use its last strength to pounce on the larvae's mucus before dying, becoming their nourishment.

This truly demonstrates how to master the art of self-production and self-sales.

Li Yao continued walking forward. The cave was beautiful and dreamlike, and the insects glowed in a flashing pattern, making it even more beautiful.

However, Li Yao, who uses her mental power, is not beautiful. With her naked eye, she can only see the light when she sees insects because the cave is dark, but with her mental power, she can describe the specific size of the insect's body.

So it's easy to imagine that in Li Yao's eyes, the wormhole was a place where she could see finger-length worms flashing and glowing, and forearm-length slime that was still feeding. As she walked, she felt the hairs on her body stand on end.

However, Li Yao wasn't afraid because of [Spatial Control]. After controlling the Insect King, she shrank her mental energy to cover her entire body, preventing the insect's slime from falling on her.

Then I adjusted my mood for a while and used my eyes to appreciate the beautiful scenery in front of me.

After walking a short distance, Li Yao saw a boat, indicating that there was a river ahead.

She waved her hand to collect the dust on the boat into her spatial storage, then used her mental power to probe the riverbed and found some water snakes, all around level 4, so she didn't pay much attention to them. After that, she controlled the boat to move slowly forward with the current.

I must say, this place is truly beautiful.

The dark cave, with its dazzling blue light, converges and intertwines into irregular shapes, like a galaxy, seemingly within reach.

Li Yao was a little stunned, but unexpectedly, a water snake suddenly emerged from the river and tried to bite her.

Li Yao reacted quickly, using an ice-type ability to freeze the water snake into an icicle, which fell onto the boat with a "bang".

Disturbed of her mood, Li Yao felt it was inappropriate to leave like this, so she controlled all the water snakes in the water to fly out of the water, used [Space Cutting] to cut them into pieces and collect the crystal cores, and then used [Space Devouring] to collect the water snake pieces.

A total of 68 crystal cores and 204 skill points were obtained.

Upon witnessing such a brutal scene, all the fireflies seemed to pause for a moment, and then, just like before, continued doing what they were doing.

If Li Yao were to activate her spiritual power at this moment, she would find that the fireflies had huddled even closer together. They silently and tacitly moved slowly towards the deeper parts of the cave on either side, trying to escape.

Li Yao didn't pay much attention and just sat there, drifting along with the current, before slowly walking out of the firefly cave onto the bridge.
