Chapter 131 The Monster of Tianchi Lake – Plesiosaur

After finishing dinner, Li Yao took out two sofas outside the invisible room, set up a screen and projector, and chose a comedy to watch.

There was no smog in Changbai Mountain, the sky was clear and cloudless, and the Milky Way was dazzling. The experience of watching an outdoor movie was truly amazing.

Li Yao played the music aloud, and the large water snake, hearing it, quietly peeked out to watch.

Li Yao saw it but didn't say anything. Anyway, as long as the water snake didn't cause any trouble, she would let it be. It was just watching a movie, nothing serious.

A person, a snake, and a cat watched a movie and laughed happily. After the movie ended, around 10 or 11 o'clock, they washed up and went to bed.

I had a good night's sleep.

The next day, after washing up and exercising, Li Yao changed the water in the lotus flowers in the house, ate breakfast, told the big water snake to guard the house, and then took out her surfboard and flew into the air to start wandering in the mountains.

The scenic spots in Changbai Mountain Scenic Area include Changbai Mountain Tianchi (Heavenly Lake), Changbai Mountain Scenic Area, Baiyun Peak, Tianwen Peak, Yuzhu Peak, Tiyun Peak, Guanmian Peak, and Luming Peak.

Huagai Peak, Longmen Peak, Wohu Peak, Tianhuo Peak, Zixia Peak, Jinping Peak, Tiebi Peak, Guanri Peak

Changbai Waterfall, Chengcha River, Changbai Hot Spring Group, Changbai Mountain Valley Forest, Changbai Mountain Grand Canyon, Changbai Mountain Plateau Ice and Snow Sports Training Base, etc.

Li Yao didn't have any plans, so she went to Tianchi first.

Changbai Mountain Tianchi is located at the top of the volcanic cone of the main peak of Changbai Mountain. It is a crater that has accumulated water over a long period of time to form a lake.

Changbai Mountain Tianchi Lake is located at an altitude of 2189.1 meters. The lake is roughly elliptical in shape, with a north-south length of 4.4 kilometers and an east-west width of 3.37 kilometers.

With an average depth of 204 meters and a maximum depth of 373 meters, the lake has a total water storage capacity of 2.04 billion cubic meters, making it the highest and largest alpine lake in China.

In August, Tianchi Lake is covered in lush green grass, its surface shimmering and crystal clear. Like a warm jade embedded in the mountains, it is gentle and radiant.

The waters of Tianchi Lake are deep, clear, and surrounded by peaks, creating a colorful and magnificent sight.

The reflections of 16 mountain peaks and the blue sky above are mirrored on the shore of Tianchi Lake, where mountains and water are connected, creating a seamless blend of sky and water.

What makes Tianchi special and magical is that it only has water flowing out but no water flowing in, yet it has been flowing continuously for thousands of years.

The ancients said that its water came from the sea, hence it was also called "sea eye".

When Li Yao arrived, it was also morning. The weather here is unpredictable, and the fog made the Heavenly Lake appear and disappear in the morning light.

Li Yao finally saw the Heavenly Pool described in the poem.

"The water sparkles beautifully on a sunny day, and the misty mountains are equally enchanting in the rain."

Legends of a monster in Tianchi Lake are also told in Changbai Mountain.

Li Yao controlled the skateboard to fly into the pool, hovering about 5 meters above the Heavenly Pool. As she flew, she used her mental power and [Spatial Control] to observe the fish and plants in the water.

In the central area of Tianchi Lake, Li Yao suddenly discovered several strange aquatic creatures.

Its overall shape resembles a snake passing through a sea turtle, with a small head, long neck, torso like a turtle, and short tail.

Although their heads are relatively small, their mouths are very large, and they have many long, thin, cone-shaped teeth. Moreover, these animals are eating fish, so it seems that they feed on fish.

They are very large, reaching lengths of 15-18 meters. Their limbs are fleshy flippers adapted for swimming.

Li Yao examined it for a long time, and the encyclopedia of flora and fauna in her mind told her that it was a plesiosaur, an extinct marine animal.

They first appeared in the Late Triassic period and spread all over the world by the Jurassic period, before becoming extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period.

Plesiosaurs were enormous and were the tyrants of the ocean, ruling the seas of the Mesozoic Era along with ichthyosaurs.

Li Yao was utterly shocked. There wasn't just one plesiosaur; there were eight in total, and it was even clear that there were young ones. Could it be that the fossils had come to life?

However, Li Yao then thought of the legend of the Tianchi Lake Monster.

The earliest record of the Tianchi Lake Monster comes from the 29th year of the Guangxu Emperor's reign (1903). The "Changbai Mountain Jianggang Gazetteer" at that time stated that "a monster emerged from the surface of Tianchi Lake. It was golden yellow, with a head as large as a basin, a square top with horns, a long neck, and many whiskers. Hunters thought it was a dragon." After that, the Tianchi Lake Monster appeared many more times, and its number increased.

In the 1960s, staff at the Jilin Provincial Meteorological Bureau claimed to have seen seven or eight lake monsters at the same time in Tianchi Lake.

Xinhua News Agency reporter Li Xiaobin captured a colossal image in Tianchi Lake using a telephoto lens—the photo shows a crow in the foreground and a monster resembling an overturned cauldron below.

By the 1990s, the number of sightings and records of the monster had increased significantly, with thousands of eyewitness accounts.

On July 11, 2004, according to the Beijing Youth Daily, an unprecedentedly large gathering of lake monsters appeared in Tianchi Lake. They surfaced five times in more than 50 minutes, with more than 20 monsters appearing at one time.

Based on video footage, Reuters from the United Kingdom produced a conceptual image of the Tianchi Lake Monster. The creature in the image bears a striking resemblance to the monster reported in Lake Shaplan in the United States, leading Reuters to speculate that it might be an animal called a plesiosaur. However, plesiosaurs are ancient creatures, so this theory was met with widespread opposition online at the time.

Li Yao's mental power clearly showed that they were indeed plesiosaurs. They also had power fluctuations. The largest one was 18-20 meters long and clearly had a level 7 water-type power. There were also three level 6 water-type, three level 5 water-type, and one level 4 water-type cub.

Li Yao was observing discreetly using her mental power, without alerting the creature, but she had a hunch that the level 7 water-type plesiosaur had spotted her.

Li Yao watched the animals living freely underwater, and without disturbing them, she skimmed across the water's surface and flew towards the edge of the pool.
