Chapter 10 How to deal with the devil's temptation
Most people, in fact, will not feel the complexity and impact of it like Lily.
“He’s amazing.”
While the girl was confused, Anthony and his friends were also commenting on it.
However, because they were not good at memorizing, they gave up keeping account books early on, so they did not have any intuitive understanding of the difficulty.
So although I was surprised, I wasn't too shocked.
“That’s understandable.”
In response to his friend's sigh, Anthony said: "He is very good at drawing, and no matter how bad his memory is, it is not that bad."
"But looking at this situation," the friend said meaningfully, "I'm afraid Andy's memory is more than just strong."
They didn't see Andy taking notes, but the audience did.
And at this moment, judging from the attitudes of those people, Andy's previous performance obviously surprised them.
However, although memory is important, it is not that important.
Therefore, apart from the scribe who specialized in memory and a certain "hidden" girl, the others present were not that surprised.
After being surprised for a while, I naturally changed the subject.
"I forgot, what is the next level?"
After taking a few glances at the people in the judging panel, the friend asked Anthony.
"What we do best," Anthony replied.
"Best at... fighting?"
"It's not a battle. It's to see how long we can hold out under the instigation of the devil's voice."
"Oh, faith and willpower."
My friend nodded and said no more.
Since it is this kind of test, there is nothing much to say.
Because there will be no unexpected results in the test.
Anthony must win.
This attitude is not arrogance, but the confidence that comes naturally after getting to know Anthony.
Absolute confidence! ...
On the other side, Andy stood still.
He paid no attention to any criticism from the outside world.
Although he appeared to be sitting on a stone chair with his eyes closed and resting, in reality, his mind had not yet left the previous assessment illusion.
Or rather, not completely out of it yet.
"Your gift of memory is amazing."
In my mind, an old voice sounded, "According to the rules, we should give you a reward."
"But your performance makes us feel a little embarrassed. We are not sure what is right for you."
"So we're going to leave the choice up to you."
"Tell me, what do you want?"
"What do you need?"
I want to cure my illness, but you don’t have the ability to do it.
Andy thought.
On the surface, he took advantage of the connection between the two parties and replied, "I want a pen."
"A pen?"
The voice asked again, "What kind of pen?"
"I want a pen."
Andy repeated, as if he didn't understand what was said.
"Perhaps you should clarify your specific requirements?"
The other party said patiently: "Otherwise, we can't understand what you are saying."
"I want a pen."
That's the only thing Andy seems to be able to say.
"Well, let us explain to you the rules here carefully. You see, child, if you don't explain clearly--"
"I want a pen."
“…”
"A pen."
“…”
"A pen."
“…”
"A pen!"
No matter what the old voice said, Andy would only say this sentence, like a stupid robot.
So in the end, the other party, who was very patient, finally gave up the idea of asking Andy to clarify his specific requirements.
A wonderful feeling of coolness was miraculously transmitted to Andy's mind through the stone chair.
Then, like a cloud, it lingered in the depths of his mind, in some unexplored place.
Seeing this, Andy finally smiled.
The reward mechanism of the Starry Temple is not unique. It can be said that every place that assesses extraordinary reserves will have similar functions.
In other words, Andy had experienced this kind of thing before and was very clear about the rules here.
Therefore, he simply looked down upon anything that voice could give him.
Whether it is some kind of inherited memory or some extraordinary item.
The only thing he cared about was a pen.
The cool cloud in my mind is certainly not this pen.
It was nothing more than a "universal reward" of corresponding specifications given by the Temple's reward mechanism according to Andy's performance after it realized that communication was impossible.
You can think of it as a spiritual light, or a special "magic" or something.
This light has many effects.
But Andy just wanted to use it to build a pen.
There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!
A pen that can be used for drawing.
After he became a transcendent.
"Unfortunately, it's not enough."
After judging the size of the spiritual light in his mind, Andy sighed, but was not surprised.
It's no big deal for him.
If the reward for one level is not enough, then take a few more levels.
Until you have enough.
So, after glancing at the onlookers in the audience who were pointing and talking, he ignored the various looks from the people around him, closed his eyes again, and waited for the second level to begin.
"The second level tests your willpower, and there will be an evil voice trying to seduce you."
Just as I was emptying my mind, a few words as clear as the whisper of a mosquito suddenly rang in my ears.
"If you are not good at this, you can recite the gospel texts of our religion silently."
“It will make you more emotionally stable.”
There was no obvious source of the sound, but Andy still looked towards a girl who was sitting not far to his side with her head down.
The girl was wearing a black and white nun's robe. She looked very clean, with neatly combed long black hair, which made Andy feel quite friendly.
But because he was looking down, I couldn't see his face clearly.
"Where did this strange woman come from?"
Andy grumbled to himself and didn't intend to pay any attention to the other party.
He closed his eyes, ignored all noises from the outside world, and sat on the stone chair. After a while, he felt a sense of drowsiness coming over him.
After waking up, Andy found himself in a silent church.
The church is of standard style, with rows of benches at the back and a pulpit in the front. The sunlight is very strong outside the stained glass window, making the pulpit full of holiness.
However, standing on the handrail of the podium was a strangely shaped devil statue.
It was blood-red, with horns on its forehead, an ugly and terrifying face, and a big mouth with broken fangs, as if it was grinning silently at Andy.
"Willpower."
Andy silently muttered this word and found a chair to sit down.
A white rose rosary emerged from the chair beside him, with the ring symbol of the Evangelical Church as a pendant.
After taking the rosary in his hand, Andy quickly entered a state of emptiness.
For a religious believer, willpower is a very important thing.
It can also be called concentration.
It plays a very crucial role when monks, knights, exorcists, and even priests pray.
When facing evil beings, such as demons or evil spirits, the strength of the priests' willpower can determine life and death.
To be honest, Andy has not specifically studied how evangelical churches cultivate people's willpower.
But he's studied other things, similar things.
So Andy sat on the church bench, closed his eyes, and stroked the rosary.
Like a believer in a monastery, he began to recite scriptures silently in his heart while praying devoutly.
"Thus I have heard: At one time, the Buddha was in the Jetavana Grove in the country of Savatthi, with a great assembly of 1,250 bhikkhus. At that time, when it was time for the Buddha to eat, he put on his robes and took his bowl and entered the hut..."
…
“The Buddha said: “Well done, well done! Subhuti! As you said, the Tathagata is good at protecting and caring for the Bodhisattvas and is good at entrusting them…”
…
"No, World Honored One. Subhuti! Bodhisattvas give without attachment. Their merits and virtues are also incalculable. Subhuti! Bodhisattvas should just abide as taught."
…
"The self is both a being and a non-being; the person, the living being, and the life span are both a being and a non-being. Why? To be free from all forms is to be called a Buddha."
…
"Not attached to appearances? Unmoved. Why?"
…
"All conditioned phenomena are like dreams, illusions, bubbles, and shadows. They are like dew and lightning. You should view them in this way."
