Chapter 13 Breaking Through History
The audience outside had different attitudes and were discussing this. However, the scene in the church was actually inconsistent with what the audience saw.
It can even be said that the gap is huge.
From the outside, Andy was sitting upright on the church bench, with his head down, turning the rosary beads in his hands and reciting scriptures silently. No matter how the devil tempted him, he remained motionless.
He is indeed like that now.
But the devil statue standing on the podium did not stay in its original position at this moment.
Instead, it seemed to be alive, and had already kneeled on the ground without anyone noticing, like a red maggot, struggling, terrified, and wailing...
It tried its best to resist, but it had to move its limbs and body, and crawl towards Andy! It was as if there were several invisible chains tightly wrapped around its joints, making it fight with all its strength, but it couldn't break free, and could only let itself get closer and closer to Andy!
This scene looked somewhat funny. The devil's face, which should have been ferocious, now looked as ridiculous as a clown.
But if this situation was seen by outsiders, it would definitely cause an uproar! Interestingly, no one in the Starry Temple outside the illusion noticed all this...
"A saint who is absolutely loyal to God?"
An old voice sounded in the church, "How many years have we not seen each other?"
“It’s incredible.”
Another voice chimed in: "He's still so young, and he's so pious?"
"It's ridiculous. Piety has no age limit."
The third voice snorted in rebuttal, and then praised loudly:
"Great saint, you are the enemy of the devil, the nemesis of darkness, the light of dawn, and the sun of the scorching sun. You are destined to rise up and illuminate this filthy world - that will surely make countless righteous people rejoice and sing praises to your great achievements!"
"Before that, let us humble undead souls solve some insignificant troubles for you! Although that is not——"
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
An old voice interrupted him, "Are you seeking credit? But this child can't hear you at all right now."
"Can't you hear? Ah! Damn it, all that nonsense."
“It’s nothing special actually.”
A new voice said, "Although it sounds powerful, in fact, the saints just have a strange state of mind, which makes them immune to and counteract the impact of the spiritual realm. Have you heard of other abilities in all these years?"
"It's just blah blah, I thought blah blah..."
The third voice said with disdain, "You are an idiot illiterate who only knows how to fight. Please don't come out and embarrass yourself, okay? You are simply lowering our overall quality."
"So, what do the saints have—"
"Alright, alright, stop arguing. If you continue like this, you will really be a disgrace to others."
After these words were spoken, all the voices instantly disappeared.
Because at this moment, the situation in the church has changed.
The change didn't come from Andy.
But it came from the crimson devil whose movements were as stiff as stone.
At this moment, it had crawled to the boy's feet and then lay there, as docile as a dog.
The look of fear and struggle on his face was gradually easing.
It was like the pain in my body was finally relieved, or like a person in a desperate situation saw the dawn of hope...
This change in expression inexplicably gave off a sense of holiness, which looked particularly strange when it appeared on the devil's evil and ugly face.
Finally, under the surprised gazes of some people, the terrifying-looking devil kissed the black-haired boy's toes with a look of gratitude.
Then his whole body suddenly turned into deep red gravel, collapsing and piling up on the wooden surface.
There was too much sand and gravel, which instantly made the interior of the church, which should have been tidy, become messy, like a construction site.
Andy opened his eyes.
"The devil in reality is not so easy to deal with."
An old voice followed closely behind, "Even if you are as devout as a saint, when facing the devil, you must never try to influence them, otherwise you will only be misled by the devil."
Andy blinked when he heard that.
Of course he was very clear about this.
But he didn't feel the need to talk to these voices.
Because in fact, the voices that came into my mind at this moment were all dead people.
In other words, it is some kind of trace left behind by those who were once honored in the Starry Temple after their death.
Just like the people Father Matthew faced when he used psychic means to trace back history.
In other words, when Andy leaves the church and is completely out of this level of assessment, the "existence" behind these voices will no longer remember him.
At the same time, the "magic power" that Andy wants is not something they can give. It is the product of the final judgment of the rules, and these undead themselves may not even know about it.
So there is no need for communication.
So in response to the kindness of these voices, Andy first expressed his gratitude, and then said: "I want a pen."
"A pen?"
The old voice continued, "Well, judging from your performance, we really can't think of what reward is suitable for you."
"But a pen?"
"What kind of pen?"
"I want a pen," Andy repeated.
"Perhaps you should clarify your specific requirements?"
The other party said patiently: "Otherwise, we won't understand what you are saying."
"I want a pen."
Andy reiterated, as if he were an idiot.
"Well, let us explain to you the rules here carefully. You see, child, if you don't explain clearly--"
"I want a pen."
"Listen, kid—"
There is no mistake in the poem, post, content, and read the book on 6, 9, and bar!
"A pen."
“…”
"A pen."
"It's over, this child seems stupid-"
"A pen!"
“…”
"One—"
"Oh my God, what's wrong with him?" A wailing sounded, "Is he really stupid?"
“It seems normal.”
Another voice said, "Who but a fool could be so pious?"
"But have you heard of other saints..."
The nagging voice continued, but a cool feeling quietly reached Andy's mind.
Then, as if greatly disappointed, Andy was kicked out of the Illusion Church without any farewell.
…
“It’s still not enough.”
Returning to reality and feeling the thickness of the cool clouds in his mind, Andy thought silently.
"But if we work a little harder on the next level, it should be about right."
Thinking of this, he opened his eyes.
As a result, he discovered that at this moment, there were a huge number of eyes around him, all staring at him.
When they saw him open his eyes, some people cheered.
“37 minutes!”
"God is my witness, this kid has made a breakthrough in history, haha!"
The laughter led to more cheers, followed by thunderous applause.
The Starry Temple, which should have been quiet, suddenly became noisy! Not only were the people in the audience cheering, but the young people participating in the assessment were also clapping excitedly, as if they were treating a hero.
There is no more hostility on his face!
Andy knew what was going on.
It's not just because of the sense of surprise that comes with breaking the record.
More importantly, in the previous assessment, he showed another identity of his - an evangelical.
And he is a very devout evangelical Christian! This identity is very important.
Although not all of the people in the audience were members of the church, they generally believed in the gospel.
Therefore, when they realized that Andy, an outsider, had the same identity traits as them, they immediately treated Andy as one of their own.
This attitude was completely different from the advice and comments Andy had received after the first level.
Of course, if he hadn't shown his great potential, the value of this person would have been greatly reduced...
Andy, who had a clear understanding of all this, was calm inside but showed a shy smile on the surface.
Then, facing the thunderous applause from all around him, he stood up very humbly and bowed several times to all directions.
The cheers became even louder! The Starry Cathedral became very lively.
Only at the VIP area on the second floor, the atmosphere was a little different.
