Chapter 2 God's Supermarket

Chapter 2 God's Supermarket

Song Yuqing glanced around. While there were plenty of supplies, it definitely wasn't supermarket-quality. Besides, what supermarket had mottled walls?

"Nice to meet you. You can call me Master Fu. I'm the boss behind the God's Supermarket."

Song Yuqing listened to the boy's voice and felt something was wrong. The voice didn't seem to come from the door, but rather like the voice on the radio. There was a sense of emptiness and AI in it.

"Where are you? Are you human?"

"That's none of your business." The young man chuckled twice.

Song Yuqing silently reached for the cargo cabinet and hid a Swiss Army knife in his hand.

"Don't worry, God's Supermarket will ensure your safety."

"Could it be..." Song Yuqing swallowed, "Are you a god?"

"Hey, it could be."

Song Yuqing: ...

After all her years of working, she hates filming scenes with a three-year-old child and a sixteen-year-old boy the most. One of them can't understand what people say, and the other is so immature that people don't want to talk to him.

I think this is someone else's territory, so we should give them the face they deserve.

Song Yuqing asked very politely, "Excuse me, can I stay here?"

"Sure, you can eat and use whatever you want from God's Supermarket, as long as you don't damage it."

Song Yuqing's eyes lit up: "Then can I invite my parents to live with us?"

"Sure, I can also help you find your parents."

So kind-hearted?

"But..." The young man paused, pretending to be serious, "We need to sign a contract."

A yellowed piece of paper appeared out of thin air and floated in front of Song Yuqing's eyes. On the paper was a black and white portrait of Song Yuqing, and below it was a line of unclear small words.

It’s no big deal. Zombies have appeared, so what else is impossible?

Song Yuqing reached out to take the paper and wanted to read the small words on it carefully.

"Don't bother looking at it. It's just a contract not to damage the house."

"Are there no conditions?" Although Song Yuqing's mind was in a mess, he was still alert.

"You're so slow. I thought you were a straightforward person." The boy sighed.

Song Yuqing rolled her eyes inwardly. She'd suffered losses in contracts before! She'd been involved in a labor dispute lawsuit for a long time.

"I have other things to do. If you don't sign, I'll throw you out to feed the zombies!" Master Fu began to count down, "Three, two, two and a half..."

Song Yuqing had only one thought left: if he wanted to survive the night, staying in the convenience store was his best option at the moment.

Song Yuqing used a Swiss Army knife to make a small cut on his thumb and pressed a bloody fingerprint on the paper.

When Song Yuqing raised his thumb, he suddenly found the three big words "Selling Body Contract" on the paper.

Song Yuqing: ???

Song Yuqing reached out to grab the contract and tear it up, but the contract disappeared, and it shook proudly before disappearing.

"You lied to me?" Song Yuqing's head was pounding and he wanted to hit someone.

"Congratulations on becoming the permanent manager of God's Supermarket. From now on, you must obey my instructions and run God's Supermarket well."

"I don't want to." If there weren't zombies everywhere outside, Song Yuqing would have run away. She didn't believe that this elusive Master Fu could catch her.

Song Yuqing walked to the gate, trying to listen for the zombies outside. She had an idea: load the convenience store's supplies into her own space, as many as she could fit, and then slip away.

She doesn't want any indenture contract!

I don’t know what the world has become, and they actually want her to work in a convenience store!

Her parents owned a convenience store, and she knew it was tough work. Growing up, she hated running the store for her parents. Even in peacetime, people still stole and robbed convenience stores, let alone in a world overrun by zombies!

"The benefits of becoming a store manager include: 1. Free food and accommodation; 2. Security guarantees; 3. Free transportation for your parents; 4. Occasional rewards..."

"Okay." Song Yuqing decided to take a gamble. It was only three years. She and her parents would stay in this convenience store for three years. The convenience store would protect their safety. Besides, as the store manager, she could choose to close every day.

Song Yuqing glanced at the four rows of shelves in front of him and secretly calculated how long these supplies could last.

"Master Fu, how are you going to bring my parents here?"

"Ah? You have to find it yourself first!"

Song Yuqing: ...Okay, I was cheated.

"Song Yuqing, you signed the indenture, it's not a loss. Look, I just upgraded your spatial ability." Master Fu's voice was a little arrogant. "Let me teach you how to use the spatial ability to find your parents."

Song Yuqing felt that this Master Fu was an AI. Otherwise, how could he know so much about her situation? And even upgrade her spatial ability without anyone noticing? Perhaps she was bound to an AI system, just like in the novels, but it was just an unreliable one.

"First, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Inhale, exhale, inhale..."

Song Yuqing did as he was told, but it felt strange, like he was meditating.

Is this really okay?

"When you open your eyes, you will be in a square box with a door. Open the door and you will see your parents."

Song Yuqing wanted to complain, but she held it in. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself in a dim room, indeed like a square box, with light coming through the cracks in the wall, slightly illuminating the room.

Unlike what Master Fu said, there are three doors in this room, two of which are black and one is white.

"No, there are three doors."

"Oh, sorry, I made a mistake and gave you an extra promotion. But it's okay, you'll need it in the future. Consider it a gift for your appointment."

Song Yuqing's mouth twitched: "So which door should I open?"

"White."

Song Yuqing opened the door with great anticipation, but was stunned. He stood in the room, not daring to take a step forward.

Outside the door was the city where she had lived since she was a child, but now, it didn't look like a city at all. Among the ruins, raging fire rolled from the ground to the sky.

The ashes of the flames fell like a heavy black snow.

She saw her parents, two zombies, standing in the charcoal, fighting over a skull.

Her parents, who had turned into zombies, looked at her, their gray eyes rolling around.

Bang--

Song Yuqing slammed the door shut.

"That's not them."

Song Yuqing still stood there, leaning his head against the door that separated the end of the world.

What were the last words her parents said to her? She doesn't remember. She only remembers the text message: her parents hope she lives well.

Slowly, the box-like room disappeared, and Song Yuqing returned to the convenience store.

"Well...my condolences..."

"Okay." Song Yuqing's face turned pale.

"Next, I'll introduce you to the basics of God's Supermarket. The items in this supermarket have no expiration date. As long as they're on the shelves, they'll always stay fresh." Master Fu spoke incessantly. "As the acting store manager, you'll have to: first, replenish the shelves at all times; second, complete a monthly sales target of thirty zombies. Of course, this is just the initial sales target. Based on your performance, I'll upgrade the supermarket specifications, and your spatial abilities will also be upgraded accordingly. I hope you can make God's Supermarket bigger and stronger!!! I'm very optimistic about you. Although you look weak and frail, I know that beneath your calm exterior, you hide a heart full of energy!"

Master Fu became more and more excited as he spoke, completely ignoring Song Yuqing's dark face.

"Can you show yourself so I can take a look?"

"I don't have a body in this world!"
