Chapter 44: Breaking into an Abandoned Internet Cafe at Night
"As for me, I am responsible for expanding the territory."
Song Yuqing shook his head and turned to walk into the store.
"I'm hungry! Liu Xiaona!" Song Yuqing's stomach growled, and it felt as if he hadn't eaten all day.
"Come on!" Liu Xiaona responded, reaching out to hold her head which was spraying water, and walked quickly to the kitchen, "What do you want to eat today?"
To celebrate the upgrade of God's Supermarket, Song Yuqing decided to treat the Xie brothers, Shen She and others to a good meal. Free, no zombies.
Song Yuqing took out fresh meat and vegetables from the space, and specifically told Liu Xiaona to cook more. There were many people today and they had all spent a lot of energy, so they had to eat more.
Seeing Liu Xiaona put ten spoonfuls of rice into the rice cooker, Song Yuqing still felt it was not enough, so he added another ten spoonfuls.
"Right! Let's cook some more dumplings!" Song Yuqing said, and took out two bags of dumplings that he had treasured for a long time. They were the most famous brand before the apocalypse. Liu Xiaona glanced at the dumplings, then at Song Yuqing, and squinted her eyes. It took so long to bring out such good stuff?
"Well...well, we have to eat dumplings when there is a happy event." It's a tradition in Song Yuqing's family.
By the time Liu Xiaona finished cooking and brought the rice cooker and several large plates of dishes out of the kitchen, everyone was already sitting around the table, staring at the food in Liu Xiaona's hand.
Everyone was really hungry, and they quickly emptied the rice in the rice cooker and the vegetables and dumplings on the plates.
After dinner, the sky gradually darkened, which was unusual. They had encountered many unusual things, and it was no longer surprising. Except for Shen She, everyone else just sighed that time passed so quickly.
“Sister Song, I feel something is wrong.” Shen She frowned, put her hands behind her back and followed Song Yuqing who was about to go back to her room to sleep.
Shen She remembered that when he first arrived at God's Supermarket, it was still night. Then, inexplicably, night turned to day. It seemed as if the night had vanished in an instant when God's Supermarket completed its upgrade. But the gap between them couldn't have been more than two hours, right?! Now, day had fallen again!
Shen She is a time-capable person, so he is naturally very sensitive to the passage of time. He is sure that from last night to now, less than eight hours have passed.
After listening to Shen She's analysis, Song Yuqing also realized the danger they were in. Temporal chaos could be caused by either a time-based person or a planet losing its natural rules, leading to the further collapse of its ecosystem. For a planet, temporal chaos is extremely dangerous.
Song Yuqing's original sleepiness disappeared in an instant. She looked at the darkness outside the window and had a bad premonition in her heart.
"Look at your haggard face. Take a good rest first and don't think too much." Song Yuqing comforted Shen She and asked Xie Hao to take Shen She and several people who were traveling with him to the next house to rest.
Liu Xiaona's eyelids gradually drooped as she cleared the dishes, nearly dropping them. Little Roubao was already fast asleep on the table, while Gaha chatted with Nanjiao.
"Gaha, Gaha." Gaha shook his head seriously.
"Okay, then I'll go find your Manager Song." Nan Jiao said as he stood up and walked towards Song Yuqing. "Manager Song, can you do me a favor? Come with me to the internet cafe in town to find something."
"Gaha! Gaha!" Without waiting for Song Yuqing's response, Gaha jumped up from the chair and pulled Nanjiao's neighbor. If Song Yuqing went, she would of course go too!
Nanjiao twitched the corners of his mouth, nodded slowly, and cursed Gaha in his heart for being biased.
"What are you looking for in the internet cafe?"
Nanjiao gave a mysterious smile.
After closing the God's Supermarket, Song Yuqing took Nanjiao and Gaha to the largest internet cafe in the heart of Chen Town. Song Yuqing wasn't familiar with Chen Town, so knowing the location of the internet cafe was purely coincidental. The night before the meteor shower, the filming company had mentioned adding an internet cafe scene to feature a mouse advertisement, so late into the night, Song Yuqing and the production crew scoured the town for a suitable internet cafe.
Although it was dark, the heat did not subside. However, the two men and one zombie had evolved physiques that could withstand high temperatures, so they did not feel much pain walking on the cement ground that could burn flesh.
Because Gaha could control zombies, they encountered few if any trouble along the way. Occasionally, a mid-level zombie would break free of Gaha's mental control and attempt to attack them, only to be severely punished by Nanjiao's thorny vines and have their head dug out. Song Yuqing's protective suit was of little use.
After walking for twenty minutes, Song Yuqing and the others arrived at what was once Chen Town's busiest internet cafe. The sign hanging on the wall had been completely shattered, scorched to a dark brown, soft, rough, and irregular texture, leaving the words unreadable. Song Yuqing was about to push the door open when Nanjiao stopped her.
"Men first."
Nanjiao pushed the door open carefully, and the harsh creaking sound made Song Yuqing and Gaha cover their ears.
"Gaha..." Gaha felt that there were unknown creatures like her inside. She grabbed Nanjiao's arm and wanted to remind Nanjiao, but Nanjiao misunderstood her meaning.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here."
"Gaha..." Gaha rolled his eyes. Why are men so confident?
Just this one roll of the eyes made Nanjiao's heart beat a beat more. That's right, it was this familiar look. Geng Kelin rolled his eyes most often!
"Hey, be careful." Song Yuqing reached out and pushed Nanjiao, bringing Nanjiao back to reality.
The internet cafe was completely empty, not a single zombie in sight. Song Yuqing and the others continued to walk inside, their scent of dust and rotting flesh growing stronger.
Song Yuqing pulled a flashlight from his space and shone it around. He found the ground covered in melted mice, keyboards, monitors, broken tables and chairs, and, of course, large areas of dried blood. Song Yuqing felt like this trip had been wasted. Under the scorching sun, ordinary electronic products couldn't withstand it.
Nanjiao didn't give up, snatched Song Yuqing's flashlight, and continued to explore inside. He hoped that this abandoned Internet cafe could leave him some high-temperature resistant hardware.
"Gaha..." Gaha grabbed Song Yuqing's wrist with one hand and pointed to the big cabinet by the wall with the other.
Song Yuqing walked towards the direction Gaha pointed with suspicion. The large cabinet was shabby and covered with dust. When he got closer, he found faint fingerprints on the cabinet door. Gaha frowned and stared at the cabinet door.
"Gaha!" With a roar of "Gaha", the cabinet door opened a small gap and then closed quickly.
That’s right, there are unidentified creatures inside!
Song Yuqing was ready and slowly pushed open the cabinet door. A hand covered in blood and stench stretched out from inside.
Song Yuqing and Gaha took a few steps back in fear as a humanoid creature shivered out of the cabinet. Half of its body retained human features, while the other half had become rotten.
Song Yuqing took a breath.
"Hiss..." The half-human, half-zombie creature stared at Song Yuqing with lifeless eyes and let out a low groan.
Bang!
A thick vine shot out and threw the half-human, half-corpse creature hard.
"Back off!" Nanjiao shouted as he rushed over and wrapped his vines around the creature's body, as if he wanted to split it into two.
"Wait! I recognize it!" Song Yuqing shouted hurriedly, stopping Nanjiao's next move.
When the half-human, half-zombie creature heard what Song Yuqing said, malicious eyes radiated from its numb pupils.
