City Hospital.
Zheng An pushed open the ward door, carrying a bag of fruit and dinner. Behind him followed Wen Jiujiu, Feng Li, and Zhao Anran.
"Is the boss still not awake?"
Zhao Zeyuan took off his glasses, put down the dictionary in his hand, and glanced at Ji Yuzhi, who looked no different from two hours ago.
"Yeah, except for that one time I woke up groggily this morning, I haven't woken up yet."
"This illness is far too serious," Zheng An frowned.
Zhao Anran stepped forward and touched Ji Yuzhi's forehead: "It still seems a little hot."
"What did the doctor say today?" Feng Li asked Zhao Zeyuan.
"It's getting better." Zhao Zeyuan stood up and stretched. "That's what happens when you're overworked; you'll get better with more rest. Is the door to the studio locked?"
"Don't worry. You've worked hard today." Feng Li patted his friend on the shoulder.
"It's almost eleven o'clock, you should eat first." Wen Jiujiu handed the dinner they brought to Zhao Zeyuan and casually tossed her phone onto the sofa: "We'll eat here."
“Okay.” Zhao Zeyuan accepted the food without hesitation and started eating.
“I’ll stay tonight. You guys can stay for a little while and then leave. The studio will be busy tomorrow, and Zheng An, you have class.” Feng Li took Zhao Zeyuan’s seat and sat down.
“I think I’ll stay. I don’t have much to do at school, and I’ve finished my work at the studio. You guys are busier than me.” Zhao Anran started working as soon as she came in. After touching Ji Yuzhi’s forehead and checking the IV drip rate, she started cleaning up the mess they had left in the ward. She only stopped when she heard this.
"That won't do!" Wen Jiujiu was the first to object: "How can you, a girl, take care of the eldest? It's inconvenient."
“Yes, I’ll stay,” Feng Li agreed.
Zhao Anran smiled slightly and said softly, "It's easier for me to take care of Yuzhi while he's still unconscious. Once he wakes up, there are some things I can't help with, and then I'll have to trouble you with those."
"No, I don't agree." Wen Jiujiu didn't care what nonsense she was spouting; her tone was so annoying, like she was the female lead.
Feng Li's mind raced. He knew what Zhao Anran was planning, but he had to admit she made a valid point. Yu Zhi wasn't fully awake yet, so having Zhao Anran stay was actually convenient. There was nothing a girl would be ashamed of. Besides, the studio needed manpower these days.
"Then I'll leave it to you. Call us immediately if anything happens that you can't handle," Feng Li instructed. It should only be one night; Yu Zhi should wake up tomorrow.
"It's nothing, don't mention it." Zhao Anran smiled shyly yet generously.
"I disagree. Do you think I'm just ignoring you?" Wen Jiujiu said angrily.
"Jiu Jiu, Yu Zhi is sick, so stop fooling around." Zhao Anran still looked at Wen Jiu Jiu with a smile, but the coldness in her eyes when they met made Wen Jiu Jiu's heart tremble.
She didn't immediately retort, not out of fear, but because she was completely convinced that this girl was not a good person.
"I'm being ridiculous?" She immediately sneered after realizing what she had said: "Zhao Anran, who do you think you are..."
Before she could even utter the words "east" and "west," Feng Li interrupted her: "Alright, Jiu Jiu isn't unreasonable. An Ran, you've gone a bit too far."
Zhao Anran was taken aback for a moment, as if she hadn't expected him to speak up for Wen Jiujiu. However, years of pretense allowed her to smile again in an instant: "I spoke too harshly, Jiujiu, I'm sorry. I was just worried that you were inexperienced and might disturb Yuzhi."
Wen Jiujiu licked her back teeth with her tongue. As expected, she was a high-end white lotus green tea. She could never get the better of her when she confronted her head-on.
She squinted, her face full of mockery.
"I'm finished eating, let's go back." Zhao Zeyuan tossed aside the takeout container, washed his hands, and came back. "We'll come over first thing tomorrow morning to relieve you. Wen Jiujiu is free, isn't she?"
“Yes, I’ll come first thing tomorrow morning,” Wen Jiujiu said provocatively.
"Okay, it's settled then." Zhao Zeyuan patted Wen Jiujiu on the shoulder.
Zhao Anran didn't have a chance to interject, and naturally didn't say anything in response.
When Zhao Zeyuan patted Wen Jiujiu, she felt a warmth seep into her heart. She felt as if she wasn't the only one fighting for their boss; they would all continue to fight for his innocence.
It was late, so the group quickly packed up and left.
...
Zhen Tian called Ji Yuzhi as soon as she got off the plane.
She arrived in H City after 9 a.m., and her inability to contact Ji Yuzhi made her very anxious.
Standing at the airport, she took a taxi to the Capital Foreign Languages Institute. On the way, she suddenly remembered that she had left Wen Jiujiu's phone number last time.
She found the number and dialed it again.
Zhao Anran filled a basin with warm water and wet a towel. While she was in the bathroom, she heard a cell phone ringing inside; it wasn't hers, nor was it Ji Yuzhi's.
She searched the room for a while before finally finding Wen Jiujiu's phone hidden in a crevice between the sofa and the wall.
Zhao Anran swiped to answer the call.
"Hello, is this Wen Jiujiu? Hello, this is Zhen Tian. I want to ask you if you know where Zhizhi is?"
Zhen Tian's anxious voice was somewhat high-pitched.
However, Zhao Anran immediately recognized who was calling, after all, that voice had had a profound impact on her during those days.
Her first instinct was to hang up; the more anxious she was, the better.
But the moment she pressed the button, another idea came to her.
"Hello, I'm Zhao Anran. Yu Zhi is in the hospital right now. Don't worry, I'll take good care of him."
After she finished speaking, she planned to hang up.
"Wait a minute," Zhen Tian called out to her, "Which hospital?"
After telling her the location, Zhao Anran asked in surprise, "Have you come to S City?"
However, this time she did not receive a reply from Zhen Tian.
She was quick-witted; with Zhen Tian asking such detailed questions, she naturally knew that the person would definitely return, it was just a matter of time.
Sure enough, she sat there listening carefully to the footsteps outside.
Not long after, the sound of hurried footsteps approaching rapidly grew closer.
She smiled, picked up a warm handkerchief from the side, and placed it on Ji Yuzhi's face, bending down to partially block his figure.
Zhen Tian hesitated at the door for a moment. She couldn't see the people inside and didn't dare to go in for fear of remembering the wrong ward.
The moment the warm handkerchief was placed on Ji Yuzhi's face, his eyelids trembled, and then he slowly opened his eyes.
Zhao Anran wiped his face and saw him open his eyes, looking at him with surprise.
When Ji Yuzhi opened his eyes, he saw Zhao Anran's face right in front of him. He frowned and turned his face away, saying, "Sorry, stay away from me."
Zhao Anran's hand stood there awkwardly. She took a step back, not daring to do too much while Ji Yuzhi was sober: "I just wanted to wipe your sweat."
"What time is it?" Ji Yuzhi's brows relaxed only after she left him.
10:21.
"Only one!"
