"Slow down, slow down, have some meat."
Zhen Tian had already eaten dinner. She used her chopsticks to put food in Ji Yuzhi's bowl, one here and one there. She was sitting on Ji Yuzhi's lap, with her upper body almost leaning on the table to reach the food that was a little further away.
Seeing this, the people in the studio quickly moved the items forward so that Zhen Tian could grab them.
"Just eat this, the fried mushrooms are especially delicious." Zhen Tian picked up a large spoonful and put it in Ji Yuzhi's bowl.
"Stop fussing." Ji Yuzhi smiled and pinched her cheek. "Sit still, I'm full."
"Only half a bowl of rice." Zhen Tian frowned, her eyes fixed on the half-eaten rice in his bowl.
"I'm not hungry."
Ji Yuzhi quickly finished the food she had picked up and put down the bowl.
Seeing him stop, the people in the studio didn't know whether they should continue eating or stop, and each of them had a look of hesitation on their face.
He picked Zhen Tian up, waited for her feet to touch the ground, took her hand, and said to the people in the studio, "Give everyone a half-hour break. The meeting will continue in half an hour."
Hearing that there was still half an hour, everyone continued to eat heartily. They ate as if they hadn't seen meat in a long time.
"You're not eating enough..." Zhen Tian pinched Ji Yuzhi's hand unhappily.
"She ate a lot at noon." Ji Yuzhi pressed the elevator button, and the floor gradually rose until it stopped at Zhen Tian's room floor: "It's past 12 o'clock, the little one should go to sleep."
He swiped his card to open Zhen Tian's door and led her into the room: "Go take a shower, and I'll tell you a story when you come out."
Zhen Tian knew he was trying to lull her to sleep, and seeing the dark circles under his eyes, she felt a pang of pity.
"I can sleep by myself."
"Be good, listen to me."
"I've finished showering." Zhen Tian thought for a moment and then crawled into bed, patting the spot next to her: "Zhizhi, come up too, let's sleep together."
"I have to go to a meeting..."
"You said you'd take a half-hour break. Come on over."
Zhen Tian sat up, grabbed Ji Yuzhi, and pulled him down onto the bed before snuggling into his arms.
"What would you like to hear today? Shall I tell you some interesting stories about Wang Anshi's journey to the capital for the imperial examinations? Legend has it that Wang Anshi's journey to the capital..."
Ji Yuzhi could rattle off stories from his head effortlessly. He'd always been a quiet person, and when bored, he could immerse himself in any kind of book. Not to mention, he'd read countless historical books with engaging narratives since childhood. That's why Zhen Tian loved listening to him tell stories; it seemed like he knew everything.
"Only one."
Zhen Tian interrupted him and shushed him, saying, "Go to sleep."
She nestled in Ji Yuzhi's arms; his embrace was more effective than his stories. Soon, Zhen Tian fell asleep, her breathing steady.
Ji Yuzhi also closed his eyes.
Half an hour.
When he opened his eyes again, they were clear, as if he hadn't slept at all.
Ji Yuzhi tiptoed away from Zhen Tian's embrace. Zhen Tian let out a soft moan as she was moved. His hand paused there, his gaze softening as he looked at the girl in his arms.
Only after realizing she wasn't awake did he remove her from his embrace, gently kiss her sleeping face, and then get up and leave.
That night.
Zhen Tian groggily opened her eyes: "Just one..."
She reached out and touched her surroundings, only to find the coldness and the empty bed beneath her fingertips.
"Zhizhi..." She sat up and called out again, her voice slightly louder.
Still, no one answered her.
Zhen Tian snapped out of her daze and picked up her phone, which was lying on the bedside table: "It's only a little past one o'clock..."
She thought she had slept for a long time.
She went to the bathroom after lifting the covers, and searched the entire apartment before confirming that Zhizhi had not returned yet.
She yawned, picked up Ji Yuzhi's suit jacket hanging on the back of the chair, and draped it over her shoulders. The oversized jacket looked like a coat on her.
She took out the room card, put on her hotel slippers, and took the elevator to the conference room.
The meeting room was brightly lit, and the faint sounds of conversation drifted out through the crack in the door. Zhen Tian listened for a while, pressing her ear against the door.
They were still talking intermittently inside.
She hesitated for a moment before going in, as it didn't seem right to keep interrupting Zhizhi's meeting.
Just as she hesitated, Wen Jiujiu opened the conference room door and came out.
"Little sister-in-law? How long have you been here?" Wen Jiujiu asked in surprise.
She shouted, not wanting those inside to know, but they would hear it anyway.
Ji Yuzhi strode out, looked at the petite woman wearing his coat and examined her for a while. He was relieved to confirm that she had just woken up and come looking for him, rather than having been waiting outside for a long time.
I touched her cheek; it was warm.
"Go do your thing," he said to Wen Jiujiu.
"Why did you come here?" Ji Yuzhi led Zhen Tian into the conference room, his tone unusually gentle.
For a moment, the person inside's mind went blank: "Is...this...the...boss...?"
"I noticed you haven't come back yet," Zhen Tian said softly.
"Sorry, this meal won't be finished for a while. Shall I take you home to sleep?"
"No, I'll wait for you. Don't worry, I won't disturb your meeting."
Zhen Tian broke free from Ji Yuzhi's hand and moved a chair from the corner to place behind Ji Yuzhi: "I'll wait for you here."
Seeing this, Ji Yuzhi chuckled. He swapped the chair he always sat in with the small stool that Zhen Tian had brought over. His chair had a backrest, but the small stool did not.
He sat down, and Zhen Tian naturally sat behind him.
"Let's continue." Ji Yuzhi flipped through the documents in his hand, acting as if nothing had happened.
But the people in the studio aren't blind.
They witnessed firsthand that, during the meeting, a pair of hands reached out from the eldest brother's waist and hugged him tightly. If they hadn't known that his sister-in-law was sitting behind them, this scene would have been quite horrifying.
Zhen Tian hugged Ji Yuzhi from behind, rested her head on his back, quietly yawned, and fell asleep as soon as she closed her eyes.
Ji Yuzhi could clearly feel the girl rubbing against him from behind through his thin shirt, her warm breath hitting him.
The people in the studio saw it again, and the boss suddenly laughed during a meeting.
This is terrifying.
The meeting lasted until almost 3 a.m.
Zhen Tian remained in that position, holding Ji Yuzhi, until three o'clock, and didn't even realize when he carried her back to her room after the event.
A week passed in the blink of an eye.
The opening ceremony of the World Economic and Environmental Conference has officially commenced.
The thing that everyone has been working on for so long is finally about to begin.
The opening ceremony featured a press corps, and important ambassadors from various countries took to the stage one after another, each accompanied by a simultaneous interpreter.
Zhen Tian stood around everyone backstage, watching Zheng An and the others take a deep breath. She smiled sweetly and said, "Don't be too nervous. Everyone is very capable, so we'll definitely be fine."
"Then I'll take your kind words, sister-in-law." Zheng An jumped up and down on the spot.
"Yes, with Zhizhi here, everything will be fine."
