"Sweetie, be reasonable!" Ji Yuzhi was at his wit's end with her.
"See? You still think I'm being unreasonable." Zhen Tian turned to leave, but Ji Yuzhi grabbed her and pinned her against the wall.
The open door and the corner of the wall created a three-sided enclosed space, and with Ji Yuzhi's tall stature beside her, Zhen Tian felt as if she were trapped in a small space.
“I don’t despise you, and I’ve always loved you.” Ji Yuzhi was forced to reason with her: “I know it’s hard for you to accept my leaving right now, and I understand.”
“But baby, stop it. Can’t you just let me go easily? I’m scared too. I’m not invincible, and I’m worried I won’t be able to come back to see you and the baby unharmed.”
"Then can't you not go? Can't you not go? If they threaten you again, you'll quit. You'll resign. I don't like having to do all the dangerous things!" Zhen Tian was brought to tears again by his words.
"No, leaving at this crucial moment would be desertion." He tenderly kissed away the tears on her cheek: "Let me be selfish just this once, please send me off with a smile, okay?"
"impossible!"
Zhen Tian and Ji Yuzhi played around all night, and only managed to fall asleep when it was already getting light.
After comforting the girl who was determined to argue with him all night, Ji Yuzhi was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep while holding her.
He got up very early the next morning, while his two mothers were still busy in the kitchen.
He sat down at the dining table with his luggage bag in hand: "Mom, Mom, after I leave, I'm entrusting Tian Tian to you."
“We know, go in peace.” Lu Ti placed a bowl of eight-treasure porridge in front of Ji Yuzhi: “When she was little, Tian Tian loved to eat this sweet eight-treasure porridge. I didn’t let her eat too much, but you always gave her yours. But Mom knows you like this taste too.”
“Now that you’re all grown up, you may not like to eat it anymore, but Mom will always remember everything about you when you were little.”
"Today your mother and I are seeing you off. We made you eight-treasure porridge, hoping it will bring you good luck, just like every bean in this bowl, so that you will come back whole, okay?"
Ji Yuzhi lowered his head and drank his porridge, concealing his reddened eyes: "I know, Mom."
“This is all your mother’s thoughtfulness. She stayed up all night making all these things.” Liu Ye helped Lu Ti set out a variety of breakfast dishes on the table: “If even one bean in this porridge is rotten, she throws it away and cooks it again.”
She secretly wiped away her tears: "Son, Mom can't stop you. But you must always remember that Tian Tian and the children are still waiting for you."
"Stop talking, it's so early in the morning." Lu Ti, like Liu Ye, took a deep breath to calm her surging emotions: "Tian Tian is such a bad child, she didn't even come to see you off when you were leaving."
"Mom, don't disturb her if she's asleep."
Ji Yuzhi persisted, and his two mothers didn't want to go against his wishes.
"Mom, Mom." He called out "Mom" twice, which meant calling out to both his mothers: "I'm leaving."
"Yes. Peace."
"Don't worry." Ji Yuzhi picked up his luggage and turned to leave.
Only after their backs were no longer clearly visible did the two mothers close the villa's gate.
Turning my head again, I saw the man standing at the top of the stairs, looking out at the man whose back I could barely see.
"Why didn't you see Yuzhi off after you woke up? You child, aren't you just making Yuzhi worry?" Lu Ti scolded playfully.
Zhen Tian stood there, her pregnant body appearing very thin even under her nightgown.
After a long silence, she finally spoke slowly, her face expressionless: "I want him to worry, I want him to be concerned, I want him to remember that I'm still here at home waiting for him."
She spoke in a calm tone, glanced back at the two mothers from the window, gave them a faint smile, and then went upstairs.
Liu Ye and Lu Ti both craned their necks to look up, but Liu Ye was the first to react: "This child did the right thing."
"Only when he has someone to care about will Yuzhi be careful in everything he does when he's out there."
Lu Ti thought for a moment and realized what was going on. She looked up at the ceiling again.
This child, indeed, is no longer a child.
Zhen Tian went upstairs and didn't come down again all day.
She slept for a day and only woke up in the evening. After waking up, she didn't want to move and sat on the windowsill looking at the yard outside and the distant forest.
She wouldn't have come downstairs if her two mothers hadn't been so worried and kept banging on her door.
At dinner, her two mothers kept filling the plate in front of her with food, which Zhen Tian ate all of.
Seeing that she had a good appetite, the two mothers felt much relieved, as they had been worried about her not coming downstairs.
…………
Ji Yuzhi must have been so busy that he couldn't stop. He only managed to send a text message to his family to let them know he was safe when he got off the plane.
After that, there was no further news.
On the third day after she left, Zhen Tian saw him on TV.
He followed three seats behind the top leader. Surrounding this group of leaders was a circle of security guards, and then the crowd.
While the high-ranking leader spoke, he listened from behind, occasionally exchanging a few words with the nearby crowd.
Zhen Tian sat on the sofa, holding a cup of hot milk in both hands, with a straw in her mouth, chewing on it.
The man inside was dressed in a sharp suit, his tie impeccably fastened, and his hair was styled in a neat short cut, much more trimmed than when he left home. He was wearing a mask with specific requirements.
She stared at him quietly, without making a sound.
But her phone started beeping incessantly.
She glanced at it casually, then swiped to answer the call.
"Sweet! What's going on?! I saw Brother Ji on TV!! Holy crap!"
Zhen Tian gave a casual reply.
"What are you 'uh' about? What's going on? Why didn't you tell me?!"
"What are you talking about? I don't even know who should talk to me yet." Zhen Tian tossed the straw aside and took a small sip of the hot milk. Then she put the cup down on the coffee table.
"What? Did Brother Ji leave without telling you?"
Zhen Tian lifted the blanket covering her legs and pulled it up below her neck, covering herself completely. After drinking a cup of warm milk, she felt incredibly comfortable. Enveloped in the warm blanket, Zhen Tian yawned and began to feel sleepy.
She answered Ye Qingyan listlessly, "I did."
"So what? You just sent Brother Ji there? What kind of place is that? I'm speechless. They send him to the most dangerous places. Aren't these leaders afraid of dying?"
"What can they do if they don't allow it? Who's going to listen to me?"
Ye Qingyan finally noticed Zhen Tian's unusual behavior: "Something's not right. What's wrong with you? Why aren't you paying any attention to Brother Ji's affairs?"
"Whether I care or not, is that something I can decide?" Zhen Tian rolled her eyes. The scenes about Zhizhi on TV had all passed. She picked up the remote and brought up the screen recording she had just watched.
