Exhausted from crying, Zhen Tian leaned against Ji Yuzhi's stomach, sobbing, her arms still tightly wrapped around him.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault, don't cry." Ji Yuzhi coaxed her softly, stroking her head gently with his hand. "Your eyes are swollen, you'll feel uncomfortable tomorrow."
"I apologize, please don't cry, I promise I'll never say those things again."
There was a hint of barely perceptible annoyance in his tone. If he had known that telling those things would make Tian Tian cry like this, he would have preferred that she avoided him.
She cried herself to sleep, and Ji Yuzhi carried her to bed.
Even in her sleep, Zhen Tian was sobbing, muttering, "No."
Ji Yuzhi followed her words, soothing her even in her sleep, for half the night before finally leaving Zhen Tian's room in the early hours of the morning. He then made a phone call.
The next day, Zhen Tian went to school with red and swollen eyes. When she arrived at the classroom, she found everyone gathered together, making a ruckus.
"Can't you understand that I said it's lost?" Ye Qingyan's loud voice came from inside: "Can't you just stay out of trouble? It's not like you have to pay for it, so what are you babbling about!"
"What's wrong?" Zhen Tian asked, squeezing in with her backpack.
Ye Qingyan stood next to Yuan Yuan's seat, while Yuan Yuan sat in her seat wiping away tears.
"What's wrong, Yuanyuan?" Zhen Tian walked anxiously to her side. "Why are you crying?"
She knew she was a crybaby, but Yuan Yuan didn't seem like the type to cry easily.
"She lost her money and is crying like a baby, which is annoying, and she even suspects us?" A few girls' disdainful voices came in.
"Who doubted you? Are you feeling guilty?" Ye Qingyan retorted.
"You're the one who's acting guilty, I wonder who's acting guilty. What bad luck."
Zhen Tian frowned. Weren't those girls Mi Le's former followers? They'd been quiet for a while, but now they were causing trouble again.
"What are you all doing?" Yang Fei, taking advantage of his height, pushed through the crowd: "Yuan Yuan, why are you crying? Who bullied you?"
"It's these few people." Ye Qingyan pointed to the girls who were speaking.
Yang Feiguang stepped in front of Yuan Yuan and said, "It's you again!"
With the boys intervening, the girls' momentum naturally weakened. They complained a few times and then left.
"What's going on?"
Ye Qingyan was furious: "Yuan Yuan lost the book fee. There weren't many people in the class this morning, and she was anxious, so she asked if anyone had seen it, or if she had taken the wrong one or something. Those girls said that Yuan Yuan stole the money and then framed someone. If I hadn't arrived, Yuan Yuan would have been bullied by those girls."
"Yesterday's book fee?" Zhen Tian blinked. She had actually seen Yuan Yuan stuff it into her backpack before leaving yesterday. It shouldn't be that someone in the class took it by mistake or anything.
However, she was certain that it wasn't Yuanyuan who took it, so after receiving a positive answer, she didn't bring it up again.
"My dear sister, your brother has come to see you."
Lu Lin rushed in from outside, almost unable to stop himself.
"Brother?!" Zhen Tian looked at him in surprise: "Why are you back!"
"It's because I missed you." Lu Lin chuckled dryly. Could he really say that Ji Yuzhi brought him back to appease him?
"What happened?" He walked in and saw Yuan Yuan with tears on her face.
Zhen Tian briefly summarized what happened.
"Oh, I thought it was something serious." Lu Lin placed his palm on Yuan Yuan's head and rubbed it. "Little sister, this is all the money you have. Just be careful next time so you don't lose it."
Lu Lin took out his phone and transferred some money to Zhen Tian: "When you give it to the teacher, have your little sister swipe your card for you. Use the rest of the money to go out and have something nice to eat with Tian Tian later."
He can't stay here too long; everyone will be starting class soon, and he needs to go home and get some sleep.
He was woken up in the middle of the night by Ji Yuzhi. He had booked an overnight flight back to surprise Tian Tian, so after getting off the plane, he didn't go straight home but came to the school.
"Oh right, these are the tickets for the Summer Tournament." Lu Lin pulled a few tickets out of his pocket. "Come and watch when you have time. I'll cover your food and lodging. I'm heading back now, I'll pick you up tonight."
Lu Lin patted Yuan Yuan's head and then hugged his little sister.
As Zhen Tian watched Lu Lin disappear, she felt that her brother seemed to have changed a bit after he went out for training. But she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Look, I have money now, don't worry." Zhen Tian waved her phone and pressed "accept" on the transfer record.
Yuan Yuan had stopped crying long ago; she stared blankly in the direction Lu Lin had left.
It was only when I came to my senses that I remembered, "Thank you, I'll pay you back later."
"Okay." Zhen Tian nodded.
It seems that the matter has been resolved.
Time flies, and a day has passed. When Zhen Tian left the school gate, she didn't see Ji Yuzhi's car, but instead saw other cars from her family.
"What about Zhizhi?"
Lu Lin was driving.
"He said I hadn't been back for a long time and asked me to take you out to eat. He said he wouldn't bother us and that we should have fun."
"profound."
Lu Lin glanced at Zhen Tian, who was fastening her seatbelt in the passenger seat, and finally understood the urgency Ji Yuzhi had been talking about.
Even Boss Ji couldn't handle it, yet he thought he could? Lu Lin was a little flustered.
"Did Ji Yuzhi bully you?" Lu Lin never beat around the bush.
"No." Zhen Tian shook her head, sitting up straight.
"Then why did he say you haven't been happy lately?"
Zhen Tian, perceptive as ever, asked, "So it was him who called you back?"
Lu Lin laughed awkwardly: "I didn't expect to be exposed so quickly. I knew I couldn't do it."
"What a fool." Zhen Tian felt both happy and sad.
"I also think Ji Yuzhi is not smart enough." Lu Lin forgot to turn off his previous sycophantic mode, and now he's being cheeky again.
Lu Lin's return wasn't entirely without purpose. He spent the entire journey, including mealtimes, telling Zhen Tian about his progress during training and the embarrassing moments he shared with his teammates, making Zhen Tian laugh heartily.
...
Yuan Yuan had a gloomy face, an expression she had only developed after Zhen Tian had spoken to her after school.
She pushed open the front door of her house.
Zhen Tian didn't say anything, but told Yuan Yuan that she saw the money stuffed in her backpack.
Yuan Yuan was quick-witted and figured it out immediately.
Since it wasn't mistakenly taken at school, she immediately thought of the culprit.
As soon as the door opened, the two culprits were still sitting on her sofa, munching on bananas, their feet propped up on the coffee table, watching TV and laughing.
"Where's the money?" Yuan Yuan slammed her backpack to the ground.
"Hey, isn't this our sister?" one of the men said with a lewd grin.
"I asked you where the money is!" Yuan Yuan snapped, grabbing one of the men by the collar.
Look closely, and you'll see that these two men's faces are familiar. They were in an alleyway when they intercepted Yuan Yuan, who was on his way to a spring outing.
