Chapter 121: Clues to Strange Objects NPC 123 [VIP]
It was late at night, and only the dim wall lamps were left in the corridor of the college.
The player followed Dead Fish Eyes and slowly wandered back to the previous room. The teacher NPC, Noise Monster Wu, and Monster Bangs had already returned.
The teacher NPC's serious face appeared even harder under the light, but the player could sense that there was no malice in his scrutinizing gaze, more like he was evaluating a dangerous person who needed to be properly placed.
"Okay," the teacher's voice was deep and powerful, agreeing to the player's suggestion to stay and study. He looked at Noise Monster and Strange Bangs, his eyes hinting at the need to "take responsibility for the trouble you've brought upon yourself."
"Yeah! Did you hear that? We've got you covered!" Noise Monster immediately came up to the player, his sunglasses sliding down to the tip of his nose, revealing his overly active blue eyes, his face full of "Praise me!"
The player looked at him trying to take credit and felt that she should express something, so she opened her system backpack and scanned the rows of icons with her mind.
First, she pulled out a steaming, beautifully presented plate of [Grilled Meat with Carrot Sauce]. No, this is a precious health-boosting item for players. Take it back.
Then, she pulled out a gleaming, particle-like sword. "(Ice)" No, the player might need to kill some monsters later, so I took it back.
Then, she tentatively pulled out a furry, glowing-eyed [Cursed Doll Containing Malice]. No, this player hadn't had enough. Take it back.
The smile on Noise Monster's face gradually froze as the player took it out and put it back.
The player expressionlessly rummaged through the bottom of his backpack, finally pulling out a few slightly wilted [Daffodils (Ordinary Quality)] that he had picked up on the roadside, and stuffed one into the Noisy Monster's mouth.
Noise Monster Wu pinched the pitiful little yellow flower, his expression varied and brilliant, finally fading into an exaggerated sigh. "...Well, alright, it's a local specialty after all."
The player ignored him and, in line with the principle of "whoever sees it gets a share" (this was done to prevent possible subsequent requests), gave one flower to each of the NPCs, including the NPC "Ghost Bangs", "Dead Fish Eyes" and the teacher.
Weird Liu Hai took it with a polite smile, Dead Fish Eyes yawned, and then Yu picked up the flower between his fingertips. The teacher NPC looked at Yu Li's small yellow flower, and the corners of his mouth seemed to twitch very slightly, but finally he put it deep into his pocket with an expressionless face.
"Thank you." A few people thanked him sparsely and with a bit of helplessness, then said goodbye to each other and went back to their respective dormitories to rest.
The player does not need sleep. As an Ultimate Creature that can remain active as long as HP is sufficient, she generally does not sleep.
Besides, no one would sleep in the game... unless they are forced to sleep.
She looked at the empty room. There were no new prompts on the task list for the time being.
So boring.
The player decided to continue her map exploration. She slipped out of the room silently, like a white shadow blending into the night, moving through the buildings and courtyards of the academy.
Unfortunately, the barrier of the technical college was very strong. After going around in circles, I couldn't even find the lowest level fly head, and I could only end up disappointed.
She called up the automatic program she had previously written using [Ether Edit].
On the program interface, a dozen light spots flashed on the Tokyo map.
Players are teleported one by one.
The result was disconcerting—the first marked point, the basement of an abandoned hospital, was inhabited by a group of sorry-looking, low-level cursed spirits.
The player didn't even bother to draw his sword. The mantra gathered at his fingertips, and a stream of compressed energy escaped from his body through [Ether Editing], then swept across under the effect of [Vector Manipulation]. The filth evaporated with a hissing sound.
The second spot, on the rooftop of an old apartment building, is a weak earthbound spirit born out of loneliness.
The player took one look at it, saw no threat and no reward, and turned away.
The third spot is a late night park, with a raccoon monster trying to scare passersby.
The player suddenly appeared in front of him and frightened him so much that he screamed and ran into the bushes.
"Rubbish." The player stood on a park bench, evaluating the places selected by the program with an expressionless face.
After running around more than a dozen places, she got nothing: either cursed spirits or harmless or weak monsters, none of which had anything to do with the rare item she was looking for.
She closed the program interface, feeling it was a waste of time, and went back to the starting point.
When the sky turned pale, the players immediately stopped the meaningless monster-killing.
She called up the task bar and tracked the task [Clues to the Strange Object]. The clues were interrupted last night, so she had to continue to follow up today.
The second floor of Natsume's house.
The player clung silently to the window like a gecko, his white hair fluttering slightly in the morning breeze, his red eyes staring through the glass at the sleepy boy inside who had just been woken up by the alarm clock.
"!" Natsume Takashi had just sat up and turned his head when he saw the expressionless little face and strange red eyes outside the window. He was so scared that his heart almost stopped beating and he suddenly shrank back.
"Meow!!!" The fat cat monster sleeping next to his pillow was also awakened, its fur standing on end, and it bared its teeth at the window. "You haunting creature! Who are you trying to scare to death?! Get out!"
"Kaizhi? What's wrong?" Aunt Tazi's concerned voice came from downstairs.
"No, it's okay! Aunt Tazi! I just accidentally hit my toe." Natsume hurriedly shouted downstairs, looking at the players outside the window in shock, lowering his voice, "You...why are you here?"
, flipped in flexibly and landed silently.
"The knife went straight in, and the red eyes stared at Natsume, "What strange things have you encountered recently?"
Natsume smiled bitterly and rubbed his temples which were still throbbing wildly.
"I have no idea... How could I possibly remember something like this?" He paused, noticing the player's changes. "Your hair and eye color...?"
"This is the original form." The player replied nonchalantly, her attention clearly still on her lost property.
"Um, I need to change my clothes, what do you think?
The player stood still, seemingly not understanding what the hindrance was.
The fat cat monster couldn't stand it any longer and slapped the player's leg with one claw: "Idiot! Get out! You should stay away from humans changing clothes! Do you understand the rules?"
The player looked at the angry cat, then looked at Natsume who looked embarrassed, and felt that things were a bit troublesome, so she turned around and climbed out of the window again.
As soon as he landed, he met an NPC who was stretching in the yard. Looking at the uncle who had insight into the NPC, the player instantly switched states.
The white hair and red eyes remained, but the expressionless face was replaced by a just right, slightly reserved and obedient look.
She tilted her head slightly, her voice soft and clear: "Good morning, uncle."
The uncle NPC looked at the strange little girl who had suddenly appeared in his yard with some surprise, but her appearance and polite greeting naturally gave off a harmless feeling. "Ah, good morning, little one. Who are you...?"
"I'm (taking a look at the mission description) a friend of Natsume Takashi," the player answered smoothly and naturally, his face hardly smiling, but his eyes showing a serious expression, "I came to go to school with him."
Her attitude was frank and childishly direct, coupled with her deceptively pretty face, the system very tactfully passed a [Social Check (Charm)] on the page.
[Great success!]
The uncle NPC was immediately convinced. He ignored the player's height and face, which were far different from those of a high school student, and smiled gently. "So you're Takashi's friend. Come in and sit down. He's still cleaning up. Let's have breakfast together."
"Thank you, uncle," the player nodded politely, and followed him into the warm living room. Auntie Wenrou, the NPC, was also very surprised to see her (the King's charm was still a great success), and warmly invited her to sit down and served her hot miso soup and rice.
When Natsume Takashi finished washing up, changed into his school uniform and went downstairs, he saw a scene that almost made his jaw drop: the unknown creature with white hair and red eyes, strange behavior, and who had scared him to death last night, was now sitting at his dining table, eating the fried eggs made by Aunt Tazi in small bites, with an attitude as well-behaved as any model student.
Auntie Tazi and Uncle Zi were surrounding her, their faces full of loving smiles, and they kept picking up food for her...
"Oh, what a cute and sensible child!" Aunt Tazi's gentle voice was filled with smile.
"Yeah, it's very polite for you to come play with your friends alone at such a young age." Uncle Zi also agreed happily.
"Kaizhi, come here quickly, your classmates are waiting for you!" Aunt Tazi called out.
Natsume: "..."
He felt that his worldview had been severely impacted.
He sat down stiffly, looking at her without any appetite. With that expressionless face, he could say such appropriate and sincere (??) words as "Auntie Tazi's cooking is delicious" and "Uncle Zi's yard is beautifully maintained", which made the two elders smile.
Until Natsume picked up her schoolbag and prepared to go to school, she immediately jumped off the chair, politely said goodbye to Aunt Tachi and Uncle Shige, said sweetly, "Thank you for the treat, come and play again next time", and then trotted to catch up with Natsume.
As soon as they walked out of the Fujiwara family's gate, the sweet smile on the unknown creature's face instantly disappeared, returning to an inorganic calm. "A clue?"
She looked up at Natsume, her tone as flat as if she was asking about the weather.
Natsume was choked by this sudden change of expression, and complained with a complicated expression: "Why do you treat me like this?"
It wasn't like that at his house just now.
"There's no need to pretend." The little girl answered confidently.
"If you still can't remember, I'll leave first." She paused and added, "I'll come and ask you from time to time. You must think about it carefully."
"Hey, hey, I get it." Natsume sighed helplessly, praying in his heart that he would remember it quickly, otherwise it would be too stressful to be pestered by this elusive guy.
Before he had taken a few steps, he ran into Kaname Tanuma who was also going to school. "Good morning, Natsume."
Tanuma greeted, his eyes curiously fixed on the little girl with white hair, red eyes and unique aura beside Natsume, "Who is this...?"
"Ah, Tanuma. This is..." Natsume was about to introduce her, but found that he really knew nothing about her.
[Ding! High concentration of strange energy fluctuations detected!]

A sharp system prompt sounded in the player's head, and her red eyes lit up instantly. Like a hawk locking onto its prey, she suddenly moved away from the clue NPC - no, it should be Clue No. 1 now - and stared closely at Clue No. 2 NPC.
Clue number one was immediately and ruthlessly abandoned by the player.
The player walked up to Clue No. 2, tilted her head, and tugged at his sleeve. "Have you encountered anything strange lately, or found anything odd?"
Clue number two was taken aback by the sudden approach and blunt question, and looked warily at the player's strange hair color and red eyes. "Who are you? A monster?"
"It's not a monster... maybe." Clue No. 1 shook his head and explained with a bit of helplessness.
"Anyway, I just ran into her yesterday... She came up and said I had 'close contact' with her lost property, and she kept pestering me for clues..." He looked at Tanuma, "Think about it carefully too. Have you come across anything special recently?"
Clue #2 frowned, trying to recall. If I had to say...
"Something special... A week ago, at school, I saw the scroll that Duogui was holding, and it felt... a little strange." He chose his words carefully. "Although I didn't touch it, I just felt... that the aura emanating from the scroll was very unusual. It made me inexplicably concerned."
Scroll?
Clue number one, after hearing what he said, showed an expression of remembrance: "Ah... I think that's the case. I was preoccupied with other things those days and didn't pay much attention..."
He looked at the player, his tone tinged with worry, "Is that scroll dangerous?"
The player shook his head.
Clue number one just breathed a sigh of relief, but the player immediately shook his head: "No, it's because I lost too many rare items, and I don't know if there is any danger."
She looked up at clues one and two. "We'll have to see it first. Well, I'll go to school with you. Let's find clue three."
