Chapter 23 Little Jonathan [VIP]
253.
Louise is giving birth!
Clark busied himself with Lois, and Bruce easily booked the best hospital room for her. He even arranged strict confidentiality for the entire delivery process, with a somewhat "needless question?" attitude.
"Thank you, Bruce." Clark's tone was sincere. His super brain was like a tangled ball of wool at this moment, with no more energy to think about anything else.
Clark had obtained the pain-swapping device from me before and used it when Lois was about to give birth, so he had recently been deprived of the right to fly around in the sky to help and had to stay by Lois's side.
At first, Louise refused.
"Clark, are you crazy?" She stood in the kitchen, staring at Clark who was fiddling with props. "I'm pregnant and having a baby. This is my body. I can handle it myself."
"I know you can." Clark put down his props, walked over to her, and held her hand, his blue eyes full of tenderness. "But I don't want you to go through this alone."
"But you are..." Lois paused mid-sentence. She wanted to say, "You are Superman, you have many responsibilities, many people are waiting for you to save them," but she found Clark's expression too serious to refuse.
"Lois," Clark whispered, "letting me feel your pain is not only about sharing it, but also about bringing me closer to you—to your love and to what you're going through."
"Are you sure?" Louise sighed, then finally nodded. "Then don't regret it."
The effect of the prop was beyond imagination. From the moment it was used, Lois's pregnancy symptoms almost completely disappeared, while Clark felt the discomfort instantly.
Morning sickness, back pain, bloating, and even occasional false contractions were all transferred to him.
"What does it feel like?" Louise looked at Clark who was trying to adjust his breathing on the sofa, with a hint of gloating in her tone.
"Like... being run over by a truck." Clark wiped the sweat from his forehead. "How did you manage to endure it?"
Louise shrugged. "You'll get used to it."
But even through all this pain, Clark still had to do what needed to be done. However, after this, the daily life of the superhero became very... strange.
254.
"Clark, why have you been sitting on the couch holding your stomach lately?" Dick asked puzzledly during a video call. "Does your stomach hurt so bad?"
"Uh... a little bit." Clark forced a smile, trying not to look too embarrassed.
In fact, he had just felt a violent false contraction, which forced him to temporarily drop the work at hand and sit down to catch his breath.
"So, every woman who decides to become a mother is truly great. From the beginning to the end of their childbirth, they endure unimaginable pain." I quipped, "Honestly, do you ever regret exchanging your pain?"
"No." Clark shook his head with a tired but determined smile on his face. "Although it hurts, it makes me feel more empathetic to Louise's feelings."
"Yeah, great fatherly love." Dick shrugged. "But don't let it happen during a fight."
"Don't worry," Clark reassured us, "I'll just stay with Lois while she's expecting."
"That's great. Lois would definitely prefer you to be with her." Kara nodded with satisfaction. "And we don't have to worry about seeing 'Superman with a pregnant belly' flying in the sky."
"Then you'll have to do a lot of Superman's work." Barbara touched Kara's shoulder and said, "Keep up the good work, Supergirl."
255.
Back to the present, Louise has been taken to the delivery room.
In order to allow Superman to stay here with peace of mind, we flew around Metropolis with Kara, Bizarro and Barbara following her instructions.
Bizarro was found by Gon in Luthor's lab some time ago when he was fighting him. Although this big guy who looks very similar to Superman has an IQ only like a child, he is very obedient and will complete the tasks assigned to him.
Currently helping Martha with farm work on a Kansas farm, and occasionally delivering documents to Louise.
Maybe because of his chick complex, he really likes Gon. When Gon is late for school, he calls Bizarro to fly him over. Oh well, my flying sword can do the same thing, right? Is it because Bizarro is warmer than a flying sword?
Can I also cover my sword with a bionic coating? When I proposed this idea, my whole family rejected it. Dick said it was really embarrassing.
A tasteless guy.
Sister, I haven't complained about it yet?
256.
The kitten below looked at me, as if asking this question.
"Don't worry, cat." I touched Mimi's smooth fur. It smelled like the sun every day in the metropolis.
"Superman was protecting his most precious love, and now he put the kitten next to the flower bed, and it ran away.
The cats in the metropolis seem to have been spoiled by Superman, and they run around to places where they can't get down every day.
Why wouldn't Gotham's cats do that?
I thought sadly: Maybe it’s because the cats in Gotham are not getting enough to eat, so they don’t have the energy to climb so high.
...This is so sad! The kitten doesn't even deserve to be trapped in a tree!
"What were you thinking about? Standing there for so long." Barbara asked me through the communicator.
"I'm thinking about setting up an association to allow cats to be trapped freely anywhere after I get back," I said seriously.
"It's super weird, okay." Supergirl Kara flew past me and brought me a serving of French fries.
She is so nice that she even remembered to squeeze ketchup for me!
257.
Clark was anxiously waiting outside the delivery room, and Martha couldn't stop him for more than thirty seconds.
Every time Lois experienced pain in the delivery room, it would be transferred to Clark outside the delivery room.
"Ah!" Clark suddenly covered his stomach, bent down, and his face turned pale in an instant.
"Clark, are you okay?" Martha quickly supported him, her face full of worry.
"It's okay..." Clark gritted his teeth, a thin layer of sweat on his forehead, "It just hurts a little..."
"God, you look uglier than Luthor when he's bald again." Bruce muttered coldly in the communicator, "Do you need someone to take your place for a while?"
"Shut up, Bruce," Clark gasped. "If she can handle it, so can I."
Although he said so, the next second, he suddenly stood up and began to pace back and forth outside the delivery room, as nervous as a plucked parrot.
I have to say that Clark is really great for being able to endure such pain and still walk around outside the delivery room.
He is simply superman!
No, he is Superman.
"Clark, stop turning." Martha held his shoulders. "You're only making me more worried."
"I'm sorry, Mom." Clark looked up at her, his blue eyes filled with guilt and anxiety. "I just... Rao, I really hope she's safe."
"Don't worry too much, Uncle Clark," I said as I flew between buildings, the wind whistling in my ears. "I've been using my spiritual power to help Sister Louise sort out her meridians for half a month, strengthening her body, calming her mind, and replenishing her qi and blood. This birth won't cause much harm to Sister Louise, and she'll recover soon."
Unfortunately, these words did not comfort Clark at all. He thought of the papers and reports he had read on fertility, and his mind was suddenly filled with statistical reports and research data on fertility risks.
"If you keep spinning like this, I dare say Martha will get dizzy too." Bruce held his forehead helplessly in the Batcave. He and Barbara were monitoring Gotham and Metropolis.
"Try to take a deep breath, Clark." Martha patted his shoulder. "Lois will be fine. She is a strong woman with the determination to overcome everything."
Clark paused and obediently began to take deep breaths.
A second later he was pacing anxiously again.
Bruce sighed and turned his gaze to the screen: "Let him keep turning, at least he can smooth out the floor a little bit..."
258.
Clark paced outside the delivery room while we tried our best to maintain the stability of the metropolis and prevent any unexpected events from disrupting this critical moment.
"Peregrine, there is a fire in the South District. Has it been dealt with?" Barbara's voice came from the communicator.
"It's been taken care of." I flew out of the fire scene and brushed off the ashes on my body. "The fire is not big. Bizarro and Supergirl will take care of it in three minutes."
"What about Superman?" Kara's voice sounded with a hint of worry.
"Still spinning in circles." I sighed helplessly. "I think he's almost made a hole in the floor."
"It seems we can't stop him." Barbara chuckled. "But then again, he's not unreasonable to be nervous. Louise is the only woman in the world who can make him so nervous."
"This is love." Kara joked on the communicator, "You don't understand."
"Of course I understand," I said, rolling my eyes. "But can he save the floors first? Wayne just renovated them."
259.
When the doctor announced that "Mother is safe", Clark almost leaned against the wall with his legs weak, muttering: "Thank you Rao... Thank you Louise... Thank you..."
Then he immediately rushed into the delivery room.
When he saw Louise holding the baby tiredly but contentedly, tears welled up in his eyes.
"Why are you crying?" Louise opened her eyes and looked at him, her tone teasing. "I'm the one who's been through it all."
"I'm sorry." Clark wiped his tears and carefully took the baby. "I'm just... so happy."
Lois watched Clark take the baby, her tone teasing, "You know what, Clark? You cry out in pain more often than I do."
Clark was stunned for a moment, then bent down and kissed her forehead, "Thank you, Lois. You are the strongest person."
"Don't thank me." Louise raised the corners of her lips. "You too, Clark."
"Mom and Dad are so corny." Martha peeked in from the doorway for a long time and couldn't help but smile and sigh, "But little Jonathan is so lucky to have such a pair of parents."
Before Lois gave birth, she and Clark decided that if it was a boy, he would be named Jonathan, and if it was a girl, she would be named Laura.
Bruce's voice came through the communicator, his tone light, "I hope this experience will make him more empathetic."
Clark ignored the black cat that was ruining the atmosphere at this time, and just looked at Louise and the child intently, with unprecedented satisfaction and happiness on his face.
"This is everything we have," Clark whispered, "and I will protect it with everything I have."
260.
"Okay, everyone can relax now." I said to Barbara, Dick, Jason, Bizarro and Kara on the communicator, "Superman is born, his mother is safe, and Clark finally doesn't have to go around in circles anymore."
"I bet he was spinning so hard the floor was practically smoking," Barbara replied with a laugh. "But he must have thought all the anxiety was worth it, right?"
"Of course." Kara's voice was full of lightness. "However, I think he needs to rest for a few days. After all, he hasn't looked well these days. Even for Superman, enduring so much pain continuously is no joke."
"It's true that his super brain and super body may need some time to adjust to this 'childbirth' experience." Bruce interjected calmly, "However, I don't intend to give him too much vacation. After all, Metropolis and Earth won't wait for him to rest."
What a capitalist speech! Jason felt his hand holding the crowbar itchy and wanted to hang something on the street lamp.
"Bruce," Dick couldn't help but tease him, "Superman's vacation is probably the most luxurious wish on earth. Can't you let him relax once in a while?"
"As long as he can guarantee the safety of Louise and little Jonathan, I can consider it." Bruce's tone was as calm as ever. "But now that we have dealt with the other threats, he can rest assured and hold the baby."
261.
A few days later, we went to visit Louise and newborn baby Jonathan.
"Leona!" Kara greeted us outside the ward in advance, her expression unable to conceal her excitement. "Come and see, my little nephew is so adorable!"
When I walked into the ward, the first thing I saw was Clark holding a baby wrapped in a blue blanket. His expression was as gentle as the spring sunshine, and he was shrouded in an indescribable glow of fatherly love.
Louise leaned against the headboard of the bed. Although her face was still a little tired, her smile was full of satisfaction.
"How is it?" Louise raised her head and looked at us. "Are you here to see me or him?"
"Of course I came to see you." I bent down and gently held her hand. "Sister Louise, you've worked hard."
"Thank you." She smiled and shook her head, then pointed to the child in Clark's arms. "But I guess all of your eyes will fall on him in the end."
"That's not necessarily true." Dick walked in, moved closer to Louise, and smiled brightly. "How about we split up and watch it separately, one watching you and the other watching him?"
Louise was amused and kicked Dick lightly, "You are still so frivolous."
Clark finally raised his head at this time, a soft light flashing in his blue eyes, "Do you want to hug him?"
"Of course." I nodded and carefully took the baby.
Little Jonathan looked very quiet, with his chubby little face buried in the blanket, like a curled up cub.
"He's so small." Jason sighed softly. I squatted down to match his height so that he could see the baby better.
"Yeah, that's what babies are like." Kara smiled and patted his head. "You were about this small when you were little."
"Really?" Jason looked up at me, "Sister Leona, was I this small when I was a kid?"
How should I know? I only started supporting you in recent years, okay?
"You were even smaller than this when you were a kid," I said, pretending to be serious. "Like a very small potato."
Xiao Jie was furious. His brain was working very fast at this time. He finally remembered that I had never seen him when he was a child. "Stop talking nonsense! You have never seen me as a child!"
"Have you forgotten? We grew up together." I said seriously with a raised eyebrow.
Even Dick looked back in surprise, and Bruce began to wonder if we had met as children.
"You grew up in your home, and I grew up in my home." I whistled happily.
Jason hit him on the shoulder.
My brother's rebellion breaks my heart.
262.
I stared at little Jonathan for a long time, and finally couldn't help but sigh, "Clark, this little guy looks like you."
"Yeah, that's what Lois said too." Clark looked down at the baby, the corners of his mouth couldn't help but rise, "But he also has a lot of similarities to Lois, like his eyes."
Well...with all due respect, what kind of eyes can a little baby have?
Of course, except for me who is gifted.
"So when are you going to take him back to Kansas?" Barbara asked, "so Martha can have a good look at her grandson."
"Soon." Clark nodded, "But right now, we just want him to rest here for a while."
"Alright." Dick snapped his fingers. "Then you guys can enjoy your kissing time, and we in Gotham will continue to fight hard on the front lines."
"You're part of our family, too," Louise said with a smile, "so don't act like an outsider."
263.
After leaving Ward M, Dick and I walked side by side in the corridor.
"Does Clark seem more like a human being now?" Dick said with a hint of sarcasm in his tone.
"Because he really is a father now." I shrugged. "That's the power of love."
"When do you think we can see little Qiao Fei?" Dick asked suddenly.
"That's hard to say, isn't it?" I smiled. "After all, he might be the first Kryptonian hybrid born naturally. Maybe we need to give him some time to show his talent."
Luthor is mentioned here as the guy who is dedicated to making things difficult for Superman. After using all possible means to obtain Superman's genetic information, we destroyed several laboratories where he wanted to clone Superman.
We paused, gazing out the hospital window at the metropolis beyond. Children ran with balloons, laughing, cats napped leisurely on the sidewalk, ice cream burgers and coffee flowed, and sunlight streamed down the city streets. The entire world seemed to be celebrating the arrival of a new life.
I tilted my head. "Does this give Superman another reason to protect this world?"
It is obvious that love has become a chain that pulls the god of the human world down from the altar, and he will willingly stay in the human world. He will fight for countless tomorrows like today, because he is the child of the human world, the lover of the human world, the father of the human world... the best friend of the human world.
Did Dick remember how he used to hate Superman? Ever since Superman was willing to help him with his homework, he was almost a die-hard Superman fan.
Batman should kick Dick out of Gotham because Nightwing, who is not a big Batman fan, is not a good Gotham person.
264.
After days of intense combat, I still had to find time to return to the sect to complete missions. Damn, is this how I use infinite recovery? I'm working myself into a dog.
Normally, watching over Metropolis and Gotham isn't that tiring, but at the same time, I have to listen with Kara to the voices of the world calling for Superman. I have to discern the psychological state of those calling, eliminate the voices of those who unconsciously mention Superman, and eliminate the voices of those who maliciously curse Superman...
Then I applied emergency brakes in the sky to solve the problem (yes, I used props and disguised myself as Superman).
In these days when day and night are reversed and sleep is meaningless, normal humans have long lost their desire for everything and just want to have a good sleep.
Superman has worked so hard. Even in this situation, he's still sunny, healthy, and cheerful, all thanks to dear Martha. I'm willing to help Martha harvest corn when I get home, woo woo woo.
At Lois's strong request, Superman returned the props and started flying in the sky again.
I cried with joy, closed all my senses, refused all tasks, exiled myself to bed, and fell into a baby-like sleep.
265.
After waking up from a good sleep, I feel refreshed.
My eyes are no longer dry, my head no longer hurts, my waist no longer feels sore, and my legs are no longer weak.
The above scenarios don't exist. Actually, I'm fine. After all, seven days of intense work without food or water is just a drop in the bucket for me. It's just that I'm not the kind of person who can selflessly be a firefighter on Earth every day, especially when some people are so foul-mouthed that they still ask for this and that after saving them.
I could only angrily cast many bad luck spells on him secretly, making everything he did go wrong, making everything he ate get stuck in his teeth, and making everything he drank make him cough...that's all.
Every day I can only read the Kelu fan fiction serialized by Xiaojie on ao3 and suck the kitten Jason to get through the dark life.
Yes, Jason was moved by the love between Clark and Lois and wrote several articles (of course, they had nothing to do with Superman). Some people even went to look for information about them, saying that Jason's writing was really romantic and touching.
Some people even started producing food with Jason after learning about it! What a cold circle MLM head.
One day when I finished work and was about to go to the kitchen to find food, Jason stopped me.
"Sister Leona." He handed me the book, his expression a little nervous. "I...I want to write something."
I took the book and flipped through it. It was all about family matters. The handwriting was neat and the language was childish but sincere.
"I want to write an article about family." He scratched his head sheepishly, "Just like... your concern for me."
I was stunned for a moment, then immediately hugged him tightly, "Wow, Xiaojie, I'm so touched! I knew I must be your most important family member! Dick, Bruce, and Barbara all have to stand aside! Xiaojie really likes me the most!"
Jason's eyes widened immediately, his face flushed red as he pushed me aside, "Don't push your luck, Leona!"
"And," I docilely retreated with his force, "don't forget to write at the end of the article—'The best sister in the family is Leona.'"
Even though I only have two older sisters, who cares? I’m the best!
Jason rolled his eyes, but couldn't help but curl up the corners of his mouth.
