Chapter 40: Apprenticeship, Hidden Secrets
Lu Qing's apprenticeship ceremony was not complicated.
Doctor Chen is not a person who likes to show off, he just keeps everything simple.
Therefore, Lu Qing just followed the procedure, and in the presence of everyone, he paid homage to the ancestor, then kowtowed, served tea, and called out, "Master, please have some tea."
Old Doctor Chen sat on the chair, took the tea and took a sip, and the ceremony of becoming a disciple was completed.
"Okay, get up."
After drinking the tea, Doctor Chen said to Lu Qing.
"Yes, Master."
Lu Qing stood up and stood aside with his hands hanging down.
Doctor Chen also stood up and bowed to the villagers in the yard.
"Thank you all for coming to witness my disciple-taking ceremony. I am very happy to have a beloved disciple today. There are few people in my small courtyard and the house is small, so I can't prepare any food for you. I can only prepare some small gifts for everyone."
After that, he picked up a tray from the table behind him, on which were rows of small cloth bags.
"These are the medicine bags I made when I was free. They have some effect of calming the nerves, helping with sleep, and repelling mosquitoes."
"If you don't mind, take one or two home and hang them above your bed. They will protect your home from mosquitoes for a month or two."
"So powerful?!" The villagers looked at the medicine bags and were surprised.
Now is the most annoying season for mosquitoes. If this medicine bag is really as good as the old doctor said, it would be really exciting.
For a moment, the villagers who had originally wanted to be polite were reluctant to refuse.
The old doctor smiled and said to Lu Qing, "Ah Qing, go and distribute these medicine packets to the villagers."
"Yes, Master."
Lu Qing took the tray, walked to the villagers, and distributed the medicine packets one by one.
"Grandpa Zhang, here you go."
The first person Lu Qing gave was Uncle Zhang.
"Good boy, remember to learn skills from Dr. Chen in the future."
Uncle Zhang took the medicine bag and said with a look of relief.
"I will, Grandpa Zhang." Lu Qing nodded seriously.
The other villagers took the medicine packages, smelled them, and felt a refreshing medicinal fragrance, rich but not strong. They felt refreshed and knew that it was indeed a good thing, so they quickly put the medicine packages away.
This was personally prepared by the old doctor. You probably can’t buy it anywhere else, so you have to keep it well.
"Fellow villagers, remember to hang the medicine bag in your room after you go back. Otherwise, after half a month, the smell of the medicine will dissipate and the medicine bag will be useless."
When Dr. Chen saw some villagers hiding their medicine packets with great care, he couldn't help but remind them.
After hearing what the old doctor said, some villagers gave up the idea of going back and hiding the medicine packages.
After witnessing the apprenticeship ceremony, Uncle Zhang and the others began to say goodbye one by one.
But before leaving, Uncle Zhang pulled Lu Qing aside and told him that when he was free, he should remember to go and pay homage to his grandfather and parents and tell them the good news.
After seeing Lu Qing agreed seriously, he went down the mountain with satisfaction.
After all the villagers had left, Lu Qing still stood in front of the courtyard, watching everyone's backs as they walked down the mountain.
"Ah Qing, your grandfather had a good relationship with you back then, which is why we have such a group of good neighbors today."
Old Doctor Chen walked up to Lu Qing and exclaimed at the crowd at the foot of the mountain.
"Master, I never knew these things. My grandfather, parents and others never talked about these things." Lu Qing said.
"This just shows that your grandfather was a man of high moral character who never expected to repay a favor. Unfortunately, I came here a little late and didn't have the chance to meet such a scholar with such high moral character."
Old Doctor Chen said with some regret.
He had a feeling that if he could have come here earlier, perhaps he could have become a close friend of Lu Qing's grandfather.
"Master, do you know how my parents died?" Lu Qing suddenly asked.
"Because of what Mr. Zhang said earlier?"
"Yes, I always thought that my parents died in an accident, but from what Grandpa Zhang said before, it seems that there is another hidden story." Lu Qing nodded.
In the original owner's memory, he thought that his parents died in an accident, but now it seems that it is not that simple.
Doctor Chen was silent for a moment, then shook his head.
"I don't know about this either. When your parents died, I happened to be treating a nobleman in the city. After I came back, I heard that your parents had unfortunately fallen into the water and died. But I didn't get to see their bodies, so I don't know if it was true."
"If you want to know the truth, I'm afraid you'll have to ask Zhang Laozhang and the others."
Lu Qing remained silent.
In fact, the same information was obtained in the original owner's memory.
My parents unfortunately fell into the water and died. When their bodies were brought back, they were still swollen and looked horrible, which scared the original owner to death.
Some things that happened afterwards all happened when the original owner was in a daze.
The land was being sold, the body was being collected, and mourning and vigil were being held. It seemed that someone had come to cause trouble during this time.
By the time the original owner came to his senses, his parents had already been buried.
Looking back now, I have many doubts.
Unfortunately, the original owner suffered such a great blow during that period that many of his memories were confused, making it difficult for Lu Qing to make sense of it.
"However, I don't recommend you to ask Mr. Zhang and the others for the truth right now."
Doctor Chen looked at Lu Qing's silence and suddenly spoke.
"Why is that, Master?"
"Since Zhang Laozhang and his men have kept this secret from you, I think it's for your and Xiaoyan's sake. They're afraid that after you know the truth, you'll do something wrong on impulse. Do you still think that Zhang Laozhang and his men will harm you?"
Lu Qing thought about the villagers' attitude towards him and Xiaoyan since he woke up, and immediately shook his head.
"Grandpa Zhang and his people are naturally not that kind of people."
The most crucial thing is that, in the information detected by his supernatural power, there has never been any indication that there is anyone in the village with such a gloomy mind.
"In that case, you should trust Mr. Zhang. They are not telling you the truth now because they obviously think the time is not right."
"So what you should do now is not to pursue the truth, but to learn things well. When you have enough ability, I believe that Zhang Laozhang and the others will tell you the truth."
Lu Qing was silent again.
In fact, he wanted to know the truth and didn't want to do anything impulsive.
After all, although he inherited the original owner's memories, he did not have any deep feelings for the "father and mother" whom he had never met.
What he was worried about was whether the truth about the original owner's parents' death would be detrimental to him and Xiaoyan.
But as the master said, he is still too weak now.
Even if you know the truth, it won't help.
It would be better to calm down and learn some skills from the master first.
"I understand, Master."
After thinking this through, Lu Qing spoke.
Seeing that Lu Qing seemed to have figured it out, Doctor Chen smiled.
His disciple is a smart one, and he doesn't want him to indulge in so-called hatred at such a young age.
That would only distort his mind.
Therefore, he quite approves of what Uncle Zhang and others did.
Seeing that Lu Qing's face seemed a little depressed, the old doctor decided to divert his attention.
"Ah Qing, now that you have become my disciple, there are some things that you should know."
Lu Qing raised his head.
Seeing that it was really effective, the old doctor laughed.
He continued, "Ah Qing, do you know what it takes to be a good doctor?"
