Chapter Sixty-Nine: His Grand Dreams

The first to be affected was Censor Zhao Chengwen.

He was seen following beside the emperor, with seven or eight officials in charge of remonstrances behind him.

When the King of Dingbian saw him, he knew something was very wrong.

Of all the officials in the court, this was the person he least wanted to offend.

Because this person is not only sharp-tongued and meddlesome, but also fearless.

Since ancient times, censors and officials have taken pride in offering advice and remonstrance, and considered it their highest ideal to smash their heads against a pillar and die to prove their loyalty.

It can be said to be the most hated profession.

But ironically, no one dared to kill them.

If they were killed, all the scholars in the world would condemn them and attack them.

So, someone who is not afraid of death, and has countless people protecting him.

Even a troublesome old man like the Prince of Dingbian couldn't do anything about him.

Sure enough, Zhao Yushi, whose eyesight was still sharp despite his age, saw Jian Yang from afar, who was being beaten and vomiting blood.

He immediately flew into a rage!

He pointed at the Prince of Dingbian's nose and began to hurl insults.

"You audacious madman, how dare you lead men to assassinate the concubines of the harem! Do you think you have the Emperor's will? Do you think you have the law of the land? Such a crime is truly intolerable and deserves to be punished!"

Upon hearing this, the Prince of Dingbian glared at him fiercely.

He gripped the hilt of the knife at his waist, but ultimately held back.

Oh well, the emperor wouldn't dare do anything to him anyway.

Let that old scoundrel Zhao Chengwen bark for now; it won't hurt.

This is what the King of Dingbian thought.

Prime Minister Jian was also by the emperor's side. Upon seeing his daughter severely injured, the little paternal love he had left was rekindled.

He immediately rushed to Jian Yang, who was lying on the ground, and began to wail loudly.

"Your Majesty!" Prime Minister Jian cried, snot and tears streaming down his face. "This Prince Dingbian dared to bring weapons and guards into the palace today to kill the concubines. He will surely dare to rebel one day!"

"Bullshit!"

The King of Dingbian, unable to bear it any longer, drew his sword and slashed at Prime Minister Jian.

"Seize this man!" The emperor, who had been holding back all along, finally gave the order. "All guards of the Prince of Dingbian, kill them without exception!"

At his command, the Imperial Guards, several times the number of the personal guards, completely surrounded the Prince of Dingbian and his entourage.

"Your Majesty, what are you doing?" The Prince of Dingbian dared not directly order the emperor in front of the civil and military officials, so he could only exert pressure with his eyes and tone.

The emperor withdrew his gaze from Jian Yang, steadied his mind which was on the verge of exploding, and said in a deep voice, "Prince Dingbian has trespassed into the inner palace with weapons and injured the concubines. His military power is hereby revoked, and he is confined to his residence to await further punishment!"

The King of Dingbian looked at him in disbelief.

It was as if they couldn't believe these words would come from his mouth.

His cronies, seeing this, all fell silent.

They figured it out.

At this point, anyone who dared to plead for the Prince of Dingbian would be risking their life.

The next moment, several imperial guards surrounded the Prince of Dingbian and forcibly expelled him from the palace.

"Your Majesty, how dare you, how dare you..." The Prince of Dingbian was so angry that his hands trembled.

The emperor, too lazy to even look at him, beckoned and ordered his guards to drag him away.

"My dear ministers, please return as well."

The officials noticed his pale face and, with great tact, all left.

Seeing that Prime Minister Jian was still weeping, the Emperor walked to his side, his voice hoarse, "Prime Minister, please go back. I will take good care of the Empress."

Upon hearing the word "Empress," Prime Minister Jian's ears twitched, and he was overjoyed.

Is the emperor planning to depose the granddaughter of the Prince of Dingbian and reinstate his daughter as empress?

Thinking that if Jian Yang were to become empress again, it would certainly be of great benefit to his career!

Prime Minister Jian was too busy laughing to even cry.

He immediately ordered Lianxia and others to carry the unconscious Jian Yang into the bedchamber, then solemnly bid farewell to the emperor and left Jiaolan Palace with light steps.

After everyone had left, the emperor hurried toward his bedchamber.

But when he reached the door, his legs felt like they were made of lead, and he couldn't step inside.

It's not that he didn't want to, but that he lacked the courage.

He originally thought Jian Yang would take things slowly, but he didn't expect her to take such a risky move and actually intend to risk her life!

If he had known about her plan earlier, he would never have allowed her to do it.

Just thinking about how she was lying on the ground, vomiting blood...

His blood seemed to have frozen.

This was also the first time he truly understood what it meant to be terrified!

He dared not imagine what would have happened if he had arrived a moment later, or if the guards who had hit him had used more force; what he would be seeing now might have been a cold corpse!

Just then, Lianxia ran out.

"Your Majesty, the Empress has woken up. Please come in; she has something to say to you."

The emperor snapped out of his daze and stepped into the bedchamber.

At this moment, Jian Yang was lying on the bed with a pale face, looking as if she was about to die.

Upon seeing this, the emperor was immediately heartbroken.

He strode forward and said gently, "I have already sent someone to fetch the imperial physician. He will be here soon, so don't be afraid."

Jian Yang shook her head, "I know my own body well. I just suffered some internal injuries. I'll recover after some rest. Your Majesty doesn't need to worry. But what about the Prince of Dingbian..."

The emperor nodded. "Rest assured, your plan was very successful. However, you must not take such risks again in the future."

He recalled that Jian Yang had excitedly told him yesterday, after learning that the Dingbian King's family was going to enter the palace today, that he should tell the civil and military officials not to leave after court.

He couldn't help but ask, "What are your plans?"

Jian Yang just smiled slyly, "I have a brilliant plan, but when Your Majesty receives my notice, please make sure to bring all the civil and military officials to the inner palace!"

The emperor agreed.

Little did he know that she would risk her life to bring down the Prince of Dingbian!

When Jian Yang heard that her plan had finally succeeded, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Now that the old man has fallen from power, the sword hanging over her head is finally gone.

From then on, she was able to sleep soundly and peacefully.

etc!

Did the dog emperor just say the words "in the future"?

What, are you planning to continue exploiting her?

There's no such thing as a free lunch!

He's really dreaming!

Once she recovers, she'll run away immediately!

This time, no one can stop it!

Her thoughts gradually became scattered, and Jian Yang fell into a deep sleep once again.

As the emperor gazed at her pale, sleeping face, his resolve to never let her go grew stronger.

When Lianxia brought the imperial physician in, she happened to see the emperor gently stroking his empress's cheek.

She quickly stopped and prepared to take the imperial physician outside to wait.

Just as she was about to step back, she heard the emperor say softly, "Come in."

The imperial physician had no choice but to hurriedly step forward with his medicine chest and carefully take Jian Yang's pulse.

After a moment, he said respectfully, "Your Majesty can rest assured that although the Empress's injuries are serious, her heart meridian has not been damaged. As long as she rests and recuperates, she will recover soon."

The emperor was finally relieved.

In the days that followed, he stayed overnight at Jiaolan Palace every day, taking care of Jian Yang personally.

However, his behavior made Jian Yang feel extremely uncomfortable and even very troubled!
