Chapter 217 Unexpected

Jian Yang waited silently at the inn for Zhou Jing'an's men to arrive. She and Jian Hong had already arranged everything, placing many hidden guards around the inn.

There was a knock at the door, and Jian Yang became alert. She held the sleeping pill in her hand, ready to make sure Zhou Jing'an would suffer the consequences if he broke in.

Seeing that no one answered from inside, Xiahou became even more nervous and tried to kick the door open to go in.

Just an hour ago, the gatekeeper suddenly ran over and handed him a letter, saying it was delivered by a guard and that he must deliver it to him as soon as possible.

The letter read: "Jian Yang may face a calamity today. Go to Room 3, Tianzi, Jinli Inn immediately."

The letter was unsigned, which gave it an odd feel. Xiahou recalled the schemes he had been plotted against in the past and found himself in a difficult position.

Better safe than sorry. What if Jian Yang really gets into trouble? Xiahou didn't have time to think. He hurriedly led his horse out the door and galloped all the way to the inn.

The inn seemed to be operating as usual, but Xiahou had a bad feeling. He quickly walked to Jian Yang's door.

Seeing that no one answered the door, Xiahou became even more uneasy. Could something have really happened to Jian Yang? Ignoring the strange looks from those around him, he kicked the door open.

Just as Jian Yang was about to sprinkle the powder in her hand, she looked closely and saw that the person was Xiahou. She then lowered her raised hand.

"How come it's you?!" Jian Yang was full of questions. How did Xiahou know she was here? Had the plan changed?

"Ayang, you're really here? Are you alright?" Xiahou asked anxiously.

Jian Yang hurriedly went over and closed the door, her face grave. "How did Lord Xiahou find his way here? And why are you asking this?"

Hearing Jian Yang say this, Xiahou Riyue felt a chill: "Someone sent me a message today, claiming that you are in danger and asking me to come here to find you. I'm worried about you."

Upon hearing this, Jian Yang understood immediately; she had been tricked.

That scoundrel Zhou Jing'an has actually gotten smarter. He must have seen through my attempt to lure him out, and he's turned the tables on me.

Jian Yang said with a cold smile, "That letter was probably sent by Zhou Jing'an. Although we don't know what his purpose is in bringing you here, we need to be careful."

No sooner had she finished speaking than a commotion erupted outside, and Jian Yang looked warily toward the door.

"Bang—" The door was kicked open, and a group of guards surrounded them.

Jian Yang pulled Xiahou back into the house, all the way to the window, where she pulled off the kite string tied to the outside – a pre-arranged signal between her and Jian Hong.

If danger arises, release the kite, and Jian Hong will bring people to rescue you.

"Quickly, she's calling for reinforcements. His Highness has ordered that she be captured alive," a man dressed as a head guard commanded.

After saying this, the guards swarmed forward. Jian Yang seized the opportunity and threw out the powder in her hand, instantly knocking out a group of people. She didn't have much powder left, and she only hoped that Jian Hong could bring his men over quickly.

Jian Hong, who was sitting in a restaurant not far away, kept a close eye on the kite tied outside the inn window. Suddenly, he saw the kite take flight and hurriedly grabbed his knife and rushed over.

Just as Jian Yang was running out of sleeping pills, a wail came from among the guards. A group of men dressed in black attacked from behind.

Jian Yang's eyes lit up; their secret guards had arrived. She breathed a sigh of relief and said to Xiahou, "They're my brother's men."

Jian Hong led his guards to fight them, and the scene became somewhat chaotic for a moment.

"Ayang, are you alright?" Jian Hong swung his sword at the guard closest to her, and then moved to her side.

"I'm fine, brother. Zhou Jing'an must have figured out our plan. He's dragged Lord Xiahou into this. We must leave here as soon as possible," Jian Yang said hurriedly.

Jian Hong nodded and looked at Xiahou Riyue: "Lord Xiahou, I will need you to take A Yang away later. I may have to stay here to cover our retreat."

"I will, General Jian, don't worry." Xiahou looked at Jian Yang and said firmly.

There weren't many guards who came. Jian Hong led his secret guards and fought his way out, intending to leave the inn with them.

As soon as she stepped out of the inn, she was stopped by a group of men in black. The leader, who was masked, pointed his sword at Jian Yang and said, "Take her down."

Jian Yang's heart skipped a beat upon hearing this; the man's voice sounded so much like that scoundrel Zhou Jing'an.

Wait a minute, those guards were clearly Zhou Jing'an's men, so what are these men in black doing here? A second sneak attack? They have no sportsmanship whatsoever.

Hearing the masked man say this, Jian Hong became somewhat angry, and the hand holding the knife trembled slightly: "We'll have to see if you can get past me."

These men in black were clearly much more powerful than the guards from before. After a few rounds, Jian Hong was starting to feel the strain.

Several men in black intensified their attack on Jian Hong. Overwhelmed, he was caught off guard by the masked leader, who slashed his arm with a sword before heading towards Jian Yang.

Xiahou Riyue and Jian Yang picked up two swords from the ground and looked warily at the masked man in front of them.

"Get out of my way, you're courting death." The masked man said coldly to Xiahou.

Xiahou raised his sword and pointed it at the masked man, saying, "If you want to take Ayang away, you'll have to step over my dead body."

Zhou Jing'an snorted coldly. He really was a former lover. Even at this point, he was still willing to risk his life for Jian Yang. It was truly touching.

"I'll grant your wish." Zhou Jing'an sneered and swung his sword at Xiahou.

Jian Yang's heart nearly jumped out of her chest upon seeing this, but there was nothing she could do at the moment. She only regretted that she hadn't brought enough medicine powder, and she couldn't use the poison powder indiscriminately, lest she accidentally injure Xiahou.

Xiahou could only hold off Zhou Jing'an for a short while before he quickly gave Jian Yang a look, signaling her to leave.

On the other side, Jian Hong finally broke free from the group of men in black. Seeing that Zhou Jing'an's offensive against Xiahou was becoming increasingly fierce, Jian Hong also joined in.

Seeing this, Zhou Jing'an suddenly stopped his fierce attack. Taking advantage of Xiahou's unpreparedness, he suddenly held his sword to Xiahou's neck, and Jian Hong hurriedly stopped.

"Lord Xiahou and Jian Yang, one of you must stay today. You can choose for yourselves," Zhou Jing'an said with a sneer.

He knew that Jian Yang would definitely not stand idly by. With Xiahou Riyue by his side, why would she not take the initiative to come to him?

As expected, Jian Yang panicked, never expecting this scoundrel to be so despicable.

“Let him go, and I’ll go with you,” Jian Yang said with a gloomy look in his eyes.

"No! General Jian, take A-Yang away quickly! Their target is A-Yang, they won't do anything to me!" Xiahou Riyue shouted.

Jian Hong hesitated for a moment, then whispered to Jian Yang, "This man is cunning. If you go to replace him now, there's no guarantee he won't go back on his word. A Yang, let's leave first."
