Zhou Jingzhi carefully dried Jian Yang's hair and then combed it gently with a wooden comb.
"When are you going back?" Jian Yang asked, turning her head.
“Who said I was going back?” Zhou Jingzhi raised his eyebrows and said teasingly.
After saying that, he flipped onto the bed and lay down, his beautiful eyes smiling as he looked at Jian Yang.
Jian Yang's heart skipped a beat. She stared wide-eyed at Zhou Jingzhi. What did this man mean? Was he not planning to go back?
She reached out and nudged Zhou Jingzhi: "You...you...you're not going to sleep here, are you?"
Seeing Jian Yang's incredulous expression, Zhou Jingzhi chuckled and leaned closer, saying, "Does A-Yang want me to stay?"
Looking at the handsome face magnified before her, Jian Yang blushed instantly. She actually had the audacity to want Zhou Jingzhi to stay. If Jian Hong found out, he'd be furious.
"You'd better leave quickly, it'll be troublesome if you're discovered," Jian Yang said hurriedly.
“Ah Yang is too cruel. She still wants to kick her husband out so late.” Zhou Jingzhi blinked, his face full of innocence.
These words, paired with Zhou Jingzhi's expression, were truly enticing. "When did this man learn this trick?" Jian Yang thought to herself.
However, it is indeed very late, so staying here is not a bad idea. They have slept together so many times, so one more time won't make a difference.
"Then I'll reluctantly let you stay for one night, but you have to leave before dawn."
After saying that, Jian Yang wrapped herself in the quilt, turned around, ignored Zhou Jingzhi, closed her eyes, and prepared to go to sleep.
The man reached out and pulled her into his arms. Jian Yang felt his warm chest and fell into a deep sleep.
Listening to the even breathing of the person in his arms, Zhou Jingzhi smiled helplessly. After a moment, he gently pulled his arm out, tucked Jian Yang in, and left.
As soon as he returned to the palace, Eunuch Zhang rushed over.
"Your Majesty, the Empress Dowager came by just now. She insisted on coming in to see you, but I stopped her," Eunuch Zhang said cautiously.
Zhou Jingzhi frowned slightly upon hearing this. Why would the Empress Dowager come to see him at this time? Could it be that she knows he left the palace last night? No one should know about this.
Zhou Jingzhi nodded: "I understand. You may leave now."
The next morning, after finishing his court session, Zhou Jing went to Fuxi Palace to pay his respects.
Before the Empress Dowager could ask, Zhou Jingzhi said, "Last night I went out to handle some matters. I heard from Eunuch Zhang that Your Majesty had come by? Was it something important?"
The Empress Dowager squinted at Zhou Jingzhi, trying to discern something from his face.
Seeing Zhou Jingzhi's open and honest demeanor, the Empress Dowager's suspicions were largely dispelled. Her son was quite opinionated, and it was normal for him to go out on business at night.
Thinking of this, the Empress Dowager's brows relaxed and she said, "It's nothing important. I just had a nightmare and was a little worried about you."
"Thank you for your concern, Mother," Zhou Jingzhi replied.
He didn't believe the Empress Dowager's words. He was sure someone was watching his movements and had leaked them to the Empress Dowager at the right moment, hoping to use her to achieve some kind of goal.
Zhou Jingzhi sneered, summoned Eunuch Zhang, and ordered him to investigate who suspicious people had approached the Empress Dowager last night.
In the Prime Minister's residence, Jian Yang didn't wake up until the sun was high in the sky. She turned her head to look at the side, but Zhou Jingzhi was nowhere to be seen.
Jian Yang thought to herself, "I was sleeping so soundly that I didn't even know when he left."
She got up, washed up, poured herself a cup of tea, and found a note on the table with Zhou Jingzhi's handwriting on it: "Wait for me tonight."
As the events of last night flashed through her mind, Jian Yang couldn't help but blush. Could this man be addicted to climbing over walls, coming here every day?
Not only does she have to climb over the wall every day, but she also has to run back and forth between the Prime Minister's residence and the palace. It's exhausting. She might as well go into the palace to see him herself. Zhou Jingzhi hasn't eaten her cooking in a long time, Jian Yang thought to herself.
After thinking for a moment, Jian Yang decided to make some egg yolk pastries. The oily duck egg yolks, combined with sweet red bean paste and milk pastry, smelled intoxicating.
Jian Yang divided the egg yolk pastry into two portions, put one portion in a food box, and took the other portion to Jian Hong's courtyard.
"Why is A-Yang here?" Jian Hong was practicing his sword in the courtyard when he saw Jian Yang and stopped to ask.
"I made some food, let your brother have a taste." With that, Jian Yang smiled and handed the egg yolk pastry in her hand to Jian Hong.
Jian Hong wiped his hands, picked up one, and popped it into his mouth.
"Ah Yang's cooking is always so good."
Seeing that Jian Yang seemed to have something else to say, Jian Hong said helplessly, "A Yang, just say what you want to say. Why are you bringing snacks and acting so distant with your brother?"
It's no wonder Jian Yang didn't dare to speak up; last time she wanted to stay in the palace, it was Jian Hong who strongly urged her to return.
She hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Brother, I want to go to the palace. Can you take me there?"
As expected, Jian Hong's expression changed.
What are you doing in the palace?
"I just wanted to go see the Emperor and bring him some food," Jian Yang said with a guilty smile.
So the egg yolk pastry wasn't made for him after all. Jian Hong was quite hurt, but since he had eaten her food, he still agreed to Jian Yang's request.
So, Jian Yang disguised himself as a servant and followed Jian Hong into the palace, preparing to give Zhou Jingzhi a surprise.
The emperor was in his study when someone announced that Jian Jiangjun had arrived. Thinking it was something important, he hurriedly invited him in.
It wasn't Jian Hong who entered, but a short attendant carrying something in his hand. Just as Zhou Jingzhi was about to reprimand him, the man looked up at him and gave him a sly smile.
Who else could this be but Jian Yang? Zhou Jingzhi hurriedly closed the door.
"A-Yang, what brings you here?" Zhou Jingzhi pulled Jian Yang over and asked with a look of surprise.
He was still worrying about how to sneak out of the palace that night when Jian Yang came to see him.
"I made you some snacks," Jian Yang said with a smile, opening the food box in her hand as she spoke.
Looking at the golden pastries in the food box, Zhou Jingzhi also felt a little hungry. He picked up a piece, put it to his mouth, and took a bite. The first taste was milky, followed by the sweetness of red bean paste, mixed with the slight saltiness of egg yolk, which made his mouth water.
Seeing that Zhou Jingzhi was enjoying his meal, Jian Yang sat down at the table and took a small bite of an egg yolk pastry.
The man suddenly leaned closer, staring at Jian Yang's mouth without saying a word, making her feel uneasy. He looked like a hungry wolf eyeing its prey, as if he wanted to tear her apart and devour her.
"Why are you staring at me?" Jian Yang asked, taking a step back.
Zhou Jingzhi didn't speak, but simply held Jian Yang's head in his hand and brought her towards him.
"Wait, wait, wait, are you serious? Kissing while eating?" Jian Yang wailed inwardly.
