Chapter 123 Giant Wolf
The squirrel's neurotic mumbling made Yu Sheng think of many things in an instant, including the possible "loopholes" in the forest and the possibility of helping Little Red Riding Hood lift the curse. But before that, he became more and more curious about the squirrel itself.
"You... seem to have always wanted to help Little Red Riding Hood escape from the forest?" He couldn't help but stare into the squirrel's eyes, with a serious look of curiosity, "Why?"
"Why?" The squirrel was stunned. "Does this need a reason?"
"Aren't you also an 'entity' born in this forest?" Yu Sheng frowned and asked directly, "You were helping me before - why did you want to take the initiative to help the humans who 'invaded' here?"
The squirrel stood there blankly, rubbing his face with his paws, and muttered hesitantly: "Yes... why... why should I help..."
It suddenly stopped, as if its brain had completely frozen.
Yu Sheng saw it and thought it was bad. The brain capacity of this small rodent was obviously not enough, even if it was a physical body. He was afraid that this sentence would bring out a bug in it.
But just when he was worried that the squirrel would be completely stuck on this problem, the little thing suddenly moved again, as if it had successfully restarted. It raised its two paws high and made a shrill cry: "I am a squirrel!"
Yu Sheng suspected that it was still stuck in a bug: "Uh, I know you are a squirrel..."
"It's a fucking cute squirrel! A little animal in the forest!" The squirrel continued to scream, "There must be such a little animal in the story, a carefree little animal in the forest who will help those children who are about to be eaten. Yes, there must be such a little animal! It would be best if it can sing. Although I can't sing, I still want to help children who are lost in the forest, because - I am a squirrel!"
It raised its paws high and shouted excitedly, as if it had suddenly found - or found again - the meaning of its existence, and looked extremely happy.
Irene couldn't help but lean closer to Yu Sheng's ear and said, "Is it really sick? It looks mentally abnormal."
"What do you think of the entities generated in the Black Forest?" Yu Sheng looked thoughtful. "This is probably one of the rules of the forest, or the rules of the 'fairy tale'."
"Why do you say that?"
"A 'threat' that tries to kill the protagonist, and a 'friend' that tries to help the protagonist, these two elements must exist in a fairy tale. In the forest, the image of this 'friend' is usually a small animal. At least that's how I understand it."
"Yes, really?"
At this moment, the squirrel that was screaming on the table suddenly stopped. It stood up, as if listening to something, then jumped onto Yu Sheng and quickly climbed onto the latter's shoulder.
Irene was stunned for a moment as she watched the squirrel's actions, then she realized, "Hey! That spot is mine!"
"Hush!" The squirrel suddenly raised its paws. Its whole body was tense. Yu Sheng could even feel it trembling slightly. "Listen outside. Listen to the noise outside."
Yu Sheng reacted instantly and signaled Irene to be quiet. He then walked carefully to the window and listened to the sounds coming from the forest.
It was quiet, as quiet as death. Even the distant and vague sound of the wind and the faint howling of wolves that always surrounded the cabin had disappeared at some point.
Deathly silence enveloped the cottage, and then there was an abrupt knock on the door, sharply and piercingly tearing through the silent night.
Bang, bang, bang, bang.
The knock on the door was neither fast nor slow, as if it was knocking directly into my heart.
"Wolf, wolf, the fire in the cabin is almost gone!" The squirrel trembled all over and whispered quickly, "How can it be consumed so quickly? It's over, it's over, it's over..."
Yu Sheng glanced at the fireplace in the corner of the hut and saw that the flame inside was indeed shrinking rapidly - even though there was still a lot of fuel piled in the furnace, the flame seemed to be disappearing in the fireplace out of thin air.
Yu Sheng turned to look at Irene: "Can you fight in your current state?"
"I'm afraid that won't work. Have you forgotten that I'm a projection that squeezed in through a gap? How much power can a stick drawing of yours summoned to me have?" Irene's frame swayed left and right. "At most I can cheer you up later... Try not to die too tragically, or I'll have nightmares."
Yu Sheng almost choked: This doll is good in every way, why does it have to have a mouth! Bang, bang, bang——
The knock on the door sounded again, and the sound gradually became as loud as thunder. The whole cottage shook with the banging on the door, the walls creaked, and the roof shook.
The squirrel let out a terrified scream, then pulled out a dry pine needle from somewhere and held it in its paw like a one-handed sword. In the other paw, it held an acorn and held it in front of it like a shield. "The squirrel is ready! The squirrel knight is ready!"
There was a third knock on the door, and the shelves and wooden wardrobes in the cabin fell down with a loud bang in the shaking that was as violent as an earthquake, and then quickly disappeared into the air. Only a faint light was left of the fire in the fireplace. The whole house was shaking, and cracks appeared on the walls one after another - and then, a huge hole suddenly appeared on the roof.
Yu Sheng saw an eye, a wolf's eye emitting a faint light. The eye was stuck to the hole in the roof, and behind the eye was a long and thin face covered with black hair.
The deafening banging noises began again, as the wolf outside the house pounded violently on the entire hut, as if it were beating on a broken drum that was about to fall apart.
The flames in the fireplace finally went out completely, and the entire wooden house shattered in an instant under the terrible knock. The red ropes and rags wrapped around the doors and windows made a sharp tearing sound - the sound was so sharp that it even sounded like a scream - and then the huge figure of the evil wolf appeared in front of Yu Sheng and Irene.
It was much larger than the "evil wolf" that emerged from the shadow of Little Red Riding Hood that Yu Sheng saw in the "museum". It was bigger than a house, and it stood so close that its body almost blocked the entire sky in Yu Sheng's field of vision. This tall and twisted creature slowly lowered its head, its violent and frenzied eyes staring indifferently at the prey that fell out of the hut, as if it was enjoying the last step of the hunt.
"It's getting bigger! It's getting bigger!" The squirrel held onto his "pine needle sword" and "acorn shield" tightly, and screamed with his head raised. "Little Red Riding Hood must be getting more and more scared! The more scared she is, the bigger the wolf will get!"
Yu Sheng turned his head suddenly: "You said..."
However, before he could even ask, the nervous squirrel seemed to have lost its rationality in great fear and tension. It screamed, raised the pine needles in its claws high, and suddenly jumped into the air, rushing towards the giant wolf as if walking on an invisible road: "Squirrel Knight is ready! Squirrel Knight protects you!"
Yu Sheng was stunned: "Wait a minute, damn..."
However, the squirrel did not respond at all. It rushed towards the huge shadow like a flash of lightning, and the tiny pine needles in its hand stabbed straight forward.

"Squirrel Knight~ appeared on the~ path in the woods." The squirrel's hoarse and out-of-tune singing came from the air. The lyrics were weird and the melody was unpleasant. Just like it said, there must be a little animal in the story who helps the children, and it must sing - but it won't. Its singing was as unpleasant as another nightmare. "Oh oh oh~ It wants to help~ the lonely Little Red Riding Hood~~"
It screamed and sang wildly, and its tiny figure disappeared into the giant wolf's mouth in the blink of an eye.
The wolf didn't even tilt its head, it simply opened its mouth so that the squirrel looked like it had jumped into its mouth of its own accord.
The harsh and unpleasant singing disappeared. The wolf's mouth opened and closed several times, and a little chewing sound came from the gaps between its teeth. Then it lowered its head and looked at Yu Sheng with a little confusion.
To the entire forest, Yu Sheng and Irene are "intruders who shouldn't have been there."
"That squirrel is dead!" Irene finally reacted and exclaimed, "I thought it was going to explode at the critical moment... How could it just die like that?!"
A gust of wind blew, and the giant wolf's claws slammed towards where Yu Sheng was standing.
But Yu Sheng had already reacted before that. He crushed the ground under his feet with one step, and suddenly jumped to the side. Then he suddenly jumped under the giant wolf's body, trying to find a blind spot for the giant wolf's attack: "Don't sigh! I will die soon!"
Irene's frame flew towards Yu Sheng: "Any last words you want to take with you?"
Yu Sheng rolled over to avoid another attack from the giant wolf and shouted, "Tell Hu Li! Let's have steamed buns tonight! Ask her to take out the meat filling from the refrigerator first!"
"Okay, remember this," Irene's frame passed through the strong wind from the giant wolf's tail, twisting and turning, and gradually becoming transparent, "Then I'll retreat first - this place is starting to not welcome me!"
"Bye, I'll be back soon!"
Yu Sheng stretched out his hand and waved, and Irene's picture frame disappeared from his sight almost at the same time.
A gust of wind suddenly blew up, and the giant wolf seemed to finally feel angry at this annoying prey that was drilling under its body. It suddenly jumped to the side, staring at the small figure on the ground, and then raised its claws to pounce again.
Yu Sheng did not dodge or evade, but suddenly grinned and revealed a smile.
"Come on! Try something good! If you take a bite of this, you'll be damn lucky in this life!"
