Chapter 99: The Wolf
Little Red Riding Hood had no reaction to the giant wolf in the shadow that attacked from behind - her mind seemed to be nailed firmly to the spot, and her whole body was in a daze.
But Yu Sheng reacted suddenly. He kicked the ground at the fastest speed he had ever exerted in his life, even creating a deep hole in the solid marble floor. Then he pounced towards the girl in red like a cannonball.
The next second after he pushed Little Red Riding Hood away, he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder as if it was torn by sharp teeth.
However, before the strange "giant wolf" could deliver another fatal blow, countless pitch-black silk threads had quickly blocked all the spaces behind Yu Sheng. The silk threads pierced through the wolf's shadow, binding the seemingly intangible monster layer by layer. Then, a ray of hot fox fire suddenly rose up, and Hu Li was completely wrapped in dark blue flames. With an afterimage and a roar, he flew over Yu Sheng and slammed hard on the huge humanoid wolf.
A loud bang shook the entire exhibition hall. This was the result of Hu Li's rage after having a full meal and smashing Yu Sheng with his head. It was completely different from the one that had killed Yu Sheng. Yu Sheng felt as if a gust of wind was about to blow him away, and the giant wolf was even smashed by the fox girl's headbutt into a large, ink-like black shadow.
However, just two or three seconds later, the black shadow re-condensed. Simple physical damage seemed to have no effect on it. The headbutt that was enough to penetrate the armor of a main battle tank only caused it to disintegrate for a moment. It stood up again, and its blurred and distorted head opened a pair of blood-red eyes, but its gaze fell on Yu Sheng.
Its sharp teeth were still stained with Yu Sheng's blood, making it look particularly ferocious and weird.
“What the hell is this?!” Irene gasped when she saw this, and then she raised her hands and wove the black spider-web-like silk thread again, trying to hold back the indestructible shadow. At the same time, she shouted to Hu Li, “Silly fox! Stop hitting it! This thing may not be able to kill it!”
But just as Irene finished her words, the huge humanoid wolf suddenly stopped moving, frozen in mid-air as if ready to pounce on Yu Sheng.
The howling of wolves came one after another. The "wolf pack" that had been still along with Little Red Riding Hood suddenly regained their ability to move. They howled and pounced fiercely on the huge wolf shadow that was frozen in mid-air. Under the astonished gaze of Yu Sheng, Irene and Hu Li, these wolf cubs, which were as "petite" as puppies compared to the giant wolf, bit and tore, and almost instantly tore the monster that could withstand Hu Li's headbutt into pieces.
The dark fragments fell to the ground one after another, and condensed into a thick, inky shadow, which returned to Little Red Riding Hood little by little.
Yu Sheng noticed that the blood color in the latter's eyes gradually faded, and a trace of rationality returned to the girl's eyes. After a moment, she blinked and became fully awake.
"Are you okay?" "Are you okay?"
Yu Sheng and Little Red Riding Hood shouted to each other almost at the same time.
Then the two of them fell silent, and a gloomy atmosphere briefly lingered in the white exhibition hall.
"What happened just now?" Yu Sheng was the first to break the silence. He looked at the girl in red in front of him with a serious face, "That half-human, half-wolf thing came out of your shadow."
Irene came to Yu Sheng silently, and the little doll's face showed a hint of vigilance.
The same thing happened to Hu Li next to him.
"...That was the 'wolf' that was chasing me. It was the curse brought to me by the 'fairy tale'." Little Red Riding Hood lowered her head, controlling her gaze so as not to look at the evil sacrificial scene in the center of the exhibition hall. "The one over there, who was sacrificed in the exhibition hall in place of the 'Lamenter' statue, was highly mentally polluted. I saw something I shouldn't have seen, causing the 'evil wolf' to briefly come to the real world. I'm sorry for getting you hurt."
Yu Sheng turned his head to look at his shoulder. There was a lot of blood, but he could feel that the wound had begun to heal.
"Your injuries aren't serious, but you're seriously 'out of control' - you just said that this is a curse brought to you by 'Fairy Tale', but isn't Fairy Tale the name of your organization?"
Little Red Riding Hood was silent for two seconds, then spoke softly: "...'Fairy Tale' is a foreign land."
Then she silently reached into her bag and took something out.
It was a needle-free syringe, and the glass tube of the syringe contained a liquid that emitted a faint fluorescent light.
Yu Sheng could tell at a glance that this thing must be very expensive - because Little Red Riding Hood was obviously hesitant and painful when she injected this thing into her body.
"Don't worry, I won't get out of control again, at least not during this operation." After injecting the medicine in the syringe into her body, Little Red Riding Hood exhaled softly and looked up at Yu Sheng. "The reward for this operation...if there is still a reward in this situation, it will all be yours."
Yu Sheng frowned in confusion: "Why?"
Little Red Riding Hood sighed, "I'm holding back, so let's follow the rules."
"Oh, that's not necessary. Let's just follow the previously agreed-on split. What happened just now was an accident. When a team is working together, there will always be accidents. It can't be considered a drag." Yu Sheng waved his hand nonchalantly, and then a strange smile appeared on his face. "Compared to the small issues of reward sharing and 'dragging the team', I have something more important to worry about."
Little Red Riding Hood was stunned for a moment, looking into Yu Sheng's eyes in confusion.
"Out of curiosity, I'm interested in the 'fairy tale' foreign land you mentioned, and the curse on you - if I'm not mistaken, the curse on all of you," Yu Sheng said seriously, his eyes even sparkling a little, "I want to know what's going on with you, why you were cursed by a foreign land, and why you took the name of this foreign land as the name of your organization."
Yu Sheng's eyes were particularly sincere, but when Little Red Riding Hood met his gaze, she suddenly felt a sense of...
Fear and trembling.
It wasn't that she felt any malice, nor was it that she had any fear of life itself. She couldn't tell what was going on. She just felt as if she was facing something fierce, pure, harmless, but far beyond human comprehension - was it just curiosity? She hesitated a little. Although she usually wouldn't mention the secrets of the organization to others, her hesitation at this moment was obviously mixed with other emotions.
However, under Yu Sheng's gaze, her hesitation finally gave way.
She nodded slowly. "If you really want to know, I can tell you—but it's a long story."
"Okay, then I'll wait until I have time later," Yu Sheng nodded happily, and his mood became better. "The current situation is really not suitable for listening to stories... After all, there is still such a mess waiting to be cleaned up."

He raised his head and looked at the sacrificial victim.
The brief and thrilling chaos just now caused considerable damage in the exhibition hall. Large holes or scorch marks from the foxfire could be seen everywhere on the ground and walls nearby. However, as the matter was resolved in a timely manner, it did not affect the booth in the center of the hall.
Only two "security guards" were knocked to the ground by the shock wave caused by the fox's headbutt, but the silver-white fox tail still firmly covered the plastic dummy's head. These "entities" that strictly followed the rules were lying on the ground motionless, which looked weird and a little funny.
"…Could this have been done by the 'security guard'?" Yu Sheng looked at the dead victim and asked Little Red Riding Hood curiously.
"No," Little Red Riding Hood immediately shook her head. After injecting additional rational blockers, she was finally able to observe the evil sacrifice, but every time she turned her eyes away, there would be some slight noise in her head. "The 'security guard' would simply kill the violators in the museum, and would not make such a complicated and obviously symbolic 'sacrifice'. This kind of thing... is more like something a human would do."
"So someone really entered the museum before us and stole the 'Lamenter' that was originally placed here, and placed a living person here as a sacrifice," Yu Sheng frowned more and more as he spoke, "...this series of actions also activated the 'security guards' in the museum, leading to our attack?"
"This is a reasonable inference," Little Red Riding Hood nodded gently. But seeing Yu Sheng standing beside the "altar" with a nonchalant look, she finally couldn't help but speak, "You... didn't feel anything at all when you saw this sacrifice? You didn't use a rational blocker in advance?"
"No," Yu Sheng spread his hands, "I don't even know where you bought the sanity blocker you mentioned. I suspect I haven't even finished reading the beginner's tutorial yet - and you said you were contaminated when you saw the person on the stage, but I didn't feel that."
Little Red Riding Hood blinked and looked at Irene beside her.
"Dolls are not afraid of mere mental pollution!" Irene put her hands on her hips.
Little Red Riding Hood looked at the fox on the other side.
"She has been fighting hunger in the Night Valley for decades," Yu Sheng reminded, "Hunger has almost grown out of her brain."
little Red Riding Hood:"……"
What kind of people are these? (End of this chapter)
