Chapter 160 The Past
Wolf howling?
Yu Sheng's first reaction was a bit confused, but then he associated the wolf howl with his recent experiences. He did not doubt whether he was hallucinating - because less than a few seconds later, another disturbing howl came from a distance, which sounded clearer than the last time.
What's more, he felt that there was no such thing as "auditory hallucination" in dreams.
Yu Sheng frowned and immediately headed towards the direction where the howling came from - in this lucid dream, he only took a few steps, and with a thought he crossed the long distance, and in the blink of an eye he arrived at the place where he "felt" something was wrong.
He saw the howling wolf.
It is a stiff and illusory shadow, floating above the grass, and flickering every few seconds like a projection screen with poor contact. Every time it flickers, the stiff shadow changes its posture, giving people the feeling that it is a severely stuck surveillance screen, refreshing the image of the surveillance target in a cycle of several seconds.
Yu Sheng looked at the projection that appeared in his dream in astonishment and curiosity. He saw it flash again, and the wolf turned its head in the next "refreshed" posture. It seemed to see the uninvited guest approaching and cast a fixed gaze in this direction.
But it was just a "shadow". Apart from casting a glance, the wolf seemed unable to do anything more.
Yu Sheng's initial nervousness gradually faded away, and he began to look at the "wolf" in front of him curiously. For some reason, he always felt that the wolf's eyes looked... a little familiar.
And then, a strange thought came to his mind - this wolf cannot be eaten.
Because there is humanity in its eyes.
Human nature? Yu Sheng suddenly felt a sense of urgency, recalling the source of that familiar feeling, and then he hesitantly reached out his hand, wanting to touch the projection floating on the grass.
A slightly cool touch came from his fingertips, and he felt as if he had touched a layer of illusory fog. The wolf was still looking at him quietly, but suddenly, it disappeared in the next "flash".
But in Yu Sheng's mind, many messy and fragmented memories that did not belong to him suddenly emerged.
He saw yellowed and faded scenes, a series of flashbacks, and he saw a vague shadow standing among a group of equally vague figures who were gathered around a small bed, as if they were silently seeing each other off.
The next second, he saw the shadow arguing with someone again. The person arguing with him was a taller figure. Although he couldn't see his face clearly, Yu Sheng felt an inexplicable warmth and nostalgia from his "memory". It seemed to be a very important person - but now, the owner of the memory was arguing with her, and the content of the argument was intermittent:
"…Why should I go to school? I won't grow up anyway!"
"…be like a normal child…go to school, make friends, read, play, worry, be happy…experience it no matter how short it is…"
In the brief memory fragment, Yu Sheng subconsciously took a few steps forward, but suddenly, a new picture appeared in front of him.
He saw that figure standing together with many other figures, forming a circle and clapping as if led by someone. A voice came from the side: "... Welcome Teacher Su, she will teach the younger brothers and sisters in the future... Teacher Zhang is ill and will not come anymore..."
All the shadows disappeared again. The figure stood alone in the bushes. She looked even smaller. Suddenly, an even blurrier wolf appeared in front of her. The wolf lowered its head and whimpered vaguely. The small figure bent down and stretched out his hand. He looked scared and nervous, but he still plucked up the courage to touch the wolf's head: "You must be obedient in the future..."
The wolf disappeared, and Yu Sheng saw the figure walking alone on a path.
Now, she was even shorter, even as short as a child of only five or six years old. She walked on the path, crying as she walked. Dim street lights flickered on both sides of the road. Beyond the light of the street lights was a dense forest full of shadows. The howling and omnipresent malice filled the dark forest, as if countless hungry predators were waiting for their prey.
The short figure suddenly stopped on the path and looked up at the darkness outside the path, as if something appeared in the darkness, attracting her attention.
Don't go over there--
This thought suddenly popped up in Yu Sheng's mind, but the next second, he saw the figure leave the path almost without hesitation and walk straight into the depths of the black forest full of malice.
Yu Sheng knew that this was just a passing illusion, and it was not his own illusion, but he still subconsciously wanted to stop it - he almost instantly came to the side of the small figure and stretched out his hand to block her, but the figure passed directly through Yu Sheng and continued to walk into the darkness.
Yu Sheng turned around in surprise and saw her running faster and faster, pouncing on two blurry phantoms.
“Mom and Dad!”
Yu Sheng stood there in a daze.
He finally knew what Little Red Riding Hood had seen on that path so many years ago.
Perhaps no matter how many times it happens, the six-year-old girl will rush into the depths of darkness without hesitation.
Every child does.
The chewing sound came from the darkness, and a bright red spread in the shadows like a dazzling red cloak.
All the illusions disappeared, whether it was the short figure or the endless dark forest, they all disappeared in a gust of empty wind.
Yu Sheng subconsciously took two steps back and found himself standing in the endless grey wilderness again. However, this time, the illusory and flickering shadow of the wolf was no longer in the wilderness. Instead, there was only a girl in a red coat, standing not far away in a daze.
Yu Sheng was stunned for a moment, then walked towards the other person. The latter seemed to suddenly "wake up" and turned his head to look over here hesitantly.
After a while, the girl in red suddenly spoke up: "Did you see everything?"
Yu Sheng was stunned for a moment. He thought he was just seeing another illusion, but he didn't expect that the other party was actually "here". However, he quickly reacted and nodded gently: "I didn't mean to look at it."
"Ahh..." Little Red Riding Hood scratched her hair hard, looking helpless and unhappy, "So that's why you adults like to pry into other people's privacy! Why are you so curious?"
"I said I didn't mean it..." Yu Sheng scratched his cheek, not knowing how to ease the embarrassment for a moment, "and it wasn't me who took the initiative to bring you here."
Little Red Riding Hood suddenly stopped scratching her hair, raised her head slightly, and cast a non-threatening look through the gap in her bangs: "I was just about to ask! Where is this?"
Yu Sheng hesitated for a moment: "Uh, it was my dream."
The moment he said this, he felt that the second half of his sentence had lost its persuasiveness.
As expected, Little Red Riding Hood immediately glared at him: "Then you still say you didn't mean it!"
"It's my instinct..." Yu Sheng explained without confidence, "Hu Li has been here before. It seems that anyone who has established a blood connection with me may fall in, but I don't know the principle behind it."
The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!
Little Red Riding Hood looked over here suspiciously, looking Yu Sheng up and down several times as if to confirm whether he was lying, and finally confirmed again: "Really?"
Yu Shengte nodded sincerely, his expression determined.
The girl in red finally withdrew her gaze doubtfully, as if she didn't intend to investigate further for the time being.
But after a few seconds, she suddenly turned around and said, "I'm just confused. Who would dream like this? You can pull people into this fixed space and chat with them!"
"I don't know either," Yu Sheng seemed even more helpless than Little Red Riding Hood, "You know my situation. I can't even figure out my own affairs..."
Little Red Riding Hood stared at him for a long time, finally waved her hand, let out a long breath, turned around and sat on the grass.
Yu Sheng also walked over, and after hesitating for a moment, he sat next to the other person.
"Why are you dreaming in broad daylight?" he asked curiously.
"I fell asleep in chemistry class." The girl said sullenly.
Then two seconds later, she suddenly added, "I usually don't sleep in class, and I haven't been sleeping much lately, but I don't know why I felt sleepy today, and I fell asleep because I was distracted."
"Sleeping in class is a normal part of student life," Yu Sheng said casually, not even knowing what he was talking about. "When you are growing up, it's better to get more sleep."
"I'm almost eighteen, not eight." Little Red Riding Hood raised her head and glanced over here, but her eyes under her bangs seemed to be smiling. "... Hey, to be honest, was I quite stupid when I was a child? I actually hadn't seen what my parents looked like, but at that time I felt like I had seen my parents..."
Yu Sheng didn't say anything. After a while, he suddenly said calmly: "I plan to kill Black Forest and the thing behind Black Forest."
"…You suddenly have an idea?"
"I went to the Secret Service today and found some clues," Yu Sheng said slowly, "The first step is to find the 'hunter' in the Black Forest... He may know where the road leading to the back of the forest is."
"Why do you say that?"
"'Hunter' could be a member of the diving team that entered the depths of the fairy tale seventy years ago and never returned, or it could be all of them."
Little Red Riding Hood was suddenly stunned. She kept staring at Yu Sheng in a daze. After a long time, she suddenly blinked her eyes.
But just when she was about to say something, Yu Sheng interrupted her and said, "Just keep it in mind. Don't get in touch with the Hunter casually."
"Why?"
"…They have been in the Black Forest for too long."
