Chapter 26 Irene's Skills
Irene has the ability to enter other people's dreams - and according to her, not only can she enter people's dreams, but she can also influence the direction of dreams to a certain extent, such as pressing the winding bell in a dream to summon a dump truck.
To be honest, it seems to be a very powerful skill if used properly. It may be able to perform high-end operations such as psychological suggestion, mental parasitism, and memory reconstruction on people.
But Yu Sheng doubted how reliable this doll's boasting about her own abilities was - as far as it could be seen, she was useless even in dreams, and couldn't even hide properly in the bushes.
And even in the dream, I was still trapped in that oil painting.
Irene's oil painting floated in front of Yu Sheng. The doll girl in the frame looked a little awkward, and Yu Sheng felt that her current state was awkward no matter how he looked at her - the way she floated in the air might as well have been hung on the wall.
"You can only stay in the painting in the dream?" Yu Sheng curled his lips and finally asked the question in his mind, "I thought you were in the spiritual realm, so you could at least come out and run around..."
"That's why I say this is a curse," Irene said helplessly. "I'm trapped in the painting in reality and in the spiritual world. No matter where I run to, I can't get out of this painting unless I find a suitable carrier - freedom? There's no such thing even in dreams."
"Then you are really miserable." Yu Sheng sighed from the bottom of his heart.
“Well, there is still a little difference between the dream world and the real world!” Feeling a little embarrassed, Irene quickly tried to make amends for herself when she saw Yu Sheng’s sympathetic reaction, “I am a little freer here than in the real world. Look, I can even float around… Don’t laugh, there’s more!”
Yu Sheng raised his eyebrows upon hearing this, and was actually a little curious: "Is it more than that?"
Irene thought about it, and posed like the angry character in King of Fighters 98, and began to make an effort in the oil painting, as if she was going to activate some ability. Even Yu Sheng was frightened by her and subconsciously watched the changes of the doll in the painting seriously. In the next second, a layer of psychedelic light and shadow actually floated on the surface of the oil painting!
As Yu Sheng's eyes gradually widened, the oil painting finally "banged" and turned into a poster in the style of the 1980s.
Irene changed the tone to that of an old movie, standing in the poster and staring at Yu Sheng.
Irene: "I can change the style of painting."
Yu Sheng: “…”
"You laughed out loud!!"
Yu Sheng tried hard to keep a straight face: "I didn't."
"Voice of the heart!"
Yu Sheng didn't want to bother with this puppet anymore. The big fox was still lying next to him, and he hadn't figured out her situation yet.
Irene was a little hurt at once. Seeing that Yu Sheng ignored her, she muttered to herself, "I can also turn into other things, such as prints, scrolls, etc. I am still studying how to turn into relief. By then, I will have thickness, and you can no longer say that my character is thin..."
Yu Sheng couldn't stand her nagging any more, so he suddenly turned his head and said, "First, when did I ever say that your character is thin? Second, that's not how the term thin character is used. Similarly, even if you turn into marble, your character won't become thick."
Irene opened her mouth to say something, but before she could open her mouth, "bang" she turned back into the appearance of an oil painting - her transformation time was up, and it lasted less than three minutes in total.
Yu Sheng was dumbfounded: He knew that this doll was useless even in his dreams, but he never thought it could be this useless...
But Irene didn't look disappointed this time. She finally noticed the white fox lying on the grass next to her - or rather, she finally realized that this big fox seemed to be somewhat out of place with the surrounding dream environment. Curiosity made her divert her attention: "By the way, what's going on with this fox? Why is it a different color from the surroundings?"
Noticing the puzzled look on Yu Sheng's face, she added, "The things in normal people's dreams are basically of the same color. Even if the dreamer himself can't notice it, I can see it when I'm watching. Just like in your dream, the sky and the grass are all gray. This is the 'base color' of your dream, but this fox... looks like it has walked into the wrong set."
She paused for a moment and looked at Yu Sheng suspiciously, "Why did such a strange phenomenon appear in your dream?"
Yu Sheng was silent for a moment, then turned around and looked at the sleeping white fox, and slowly said, "Her name is Hu Li."
"I know, it's a fox at first glance..."
"I meant her name, Hu Li," Yu Sheng corrected helplessly, and then reminded, "Remember what I told you when I was trapped in that 'foreign land'? I met a fox with white fur, red eyes, and a bunch of tails..."
Irene was stunned, and her poor memory finally started to work, and she recalled what Yu Sheng had mentioned to her before.
Her expression became interesting. She stared at the huge fox with wide eyes. She opened her mouth several times before finally speaking: "What?! How did you catch her in your dream... No, how can you be so powerful as to lock someone in..."
"I didn't catch her, and I don't think she was really 'locked' here. Is this just a shadow? I'm not sure," Yu Sheng had to explain. "I saw her not long after I fell asleep, but I couldn't wake her up."
Irene looked at Yu Sheng, then turned her head to look at the fox demon, and her eyes moved back and forth between the two "people" several times, as if she was trying to sort out the logic of what was happening before her, but this was obviously not easy.
"I've never heard of such a thing..." She muttered in surprise, then suddenly turned the frame and stared at Yu Sheng's eyes, "Are you really a human being?"
Yu Sheng immediately frowned: "How can you say that! I'm not a human, so what are you?"
Irene still stared at him, her expression more serious than ever before: "Well, a human, an ordinary person, lived in a foreign land for a long time without knowing it, and ran into another foreign land and encountered a vicious entity. Not only did he run out alive, but he also cut a 'local specialty' from the entity and fried it and ate it. He was still alive and kicking after eating it, and now he can store another mind in his dreams - the original body of this mind is even trapped somewhere else.
"So many outrageous things happened to you, and then you said - you are a human? An ordinary person?"
Yu Sheng gradually felt a little uncomfortable being stared at by Irene's scarlet eyes. He turned his eyes away subconsciously, thinking that he was still missing a "resurrection from the dead". Compared with the last one, the previous outrageous things were nothing...
"It is true... a lot of strange things have happened. I am a little confused myself. But if I have to say, even you are one of the 'strange things' to me recently," Yu Sheng said helplessly. "Don't look at me. I don't know what's going on. This Hu Li can't be woken up even if I call her. If I can wake her up, maybe I can ask her about the situation."
Irene stared at Yu Sheng for a while, as if to confirm that the latter was not joking, then she slowly withdrew her gaze and focused her attention back on the silver-white fox.
She thought about it for a long time.
The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!
"I have an idea."
Irene suddenly said.
"Thoughts?" Yu Sheng asked curiously, "Can you tell me about it?"
"I'll try to get into the fox's dream again. If she happens to be dreaming right now," Irene pointed at the fox, "her current state looks like her mind is blocked. But no matter how well the mind is blocked, it's hard to defend against it in a dream. Maybe I can 'see' something. It would be even better if I could take the opportunity to wake her up here."
Yu Sheng was really a little surprised. After all, he was just lamenting the unreliability of this puppet, but he didn't expect that the other party would come up with such a high-end plan. He couldn't hide his surprise: "Can this kind of thing be done?"
"It's not difficult, as long as she is dreaming too... Even if she is not dreaming, your two minds are obviously connected now. I have a way to 'squeeze' over to take a look, but... it's a little risky, and I need your help."
Yu Sheng's expression suddenly became serious: "No problem, you tell me what to do."
"Because jumping between minds is like 'deep diving' in unstable waters. Once the 'connection' in the middle goes wrong, I might be trapped at the 'other end'," Irene looked at Yu Sheng seriously and said, "So, I need a 'rope', and you can be this rope.
"You have to 'dive' with me, continue to sink from your own dreams, and sink into the depths of this big fox's mind. You also have to share some of the pressure with me, so that I can devote my attention to finding the direction. If something really goes wrong during this process... I will use more drastic means to 'wake you up'.
"Your awakening has the highest priority in this chain of dreams. It will also 'pull' my mind back, so that both of us can return to the real world safely. But I have to warn you first that my 'awakening' process may not be so comfortable."
"How uncomfortable can it be?"
"…It's probably like dreaming about taking the college entrance examination, but before you write your name, the bell rings. Before you can react, a dump truck crashes into the examination room, turning you and your most impressive white moonlight in high school into paper figures, with a very thin personality…"
Yu Sheng had absolutely no idea what this guy was talking about from Irene's wonderful metaphor.
But he thought it shouldn't be a big deal, it was just a startle, no matter how uncomfortable it was, how could it be worse than death? Rather than this hesitation, he wanted to figure out what condition Hu Li was in now, and what his dream was all about.
"No problem, let's get started," Yu Sheng took a deep breath and nodded solemnly to Irene, "What's the first step?"
“Go over there, get close to that big fox, the closer the better… just lie on her tail.
"Then, holding my frame and closing my eyes, we danced in our dreams."
