Chapter 30 The Door Opener
The door of the small supermarket slammed shut, blocking out the scorching heat coming from the scorched earth planet and the sudden murderous intent of the two black-armored soldiers. Yu Sheng stood quietly at the door, a little dazed.
After being stunned for several seconds, he took a deep breath and turned his head to look around.
There were few passers-by on the street, and the occasional person walking by seemed to have completely ignored the abnormality here. Only Yu Sheng had faced the strange scene a few seconds ago and was still standing in the wind, looking disheveled.
After a messy moment, Yu Sheng slowly turned around and looked at the facade of the small supermarket.
He has been here more than once in the past two months. This small supermarket located in the old city does not have many things, but it has a complete range of basic daily necessities and rice, flour, grain and oil. The owners of the supermarket are a young couple, and Yu Sheng is now somewhat familiar with them.
There is nothing special about the facade of the small supermarket. It is just an ordinary ground-floor shop with a large glass window on the street side, which is almost completely filled with various promotional information and small commodity shelves piled behind the glass. One side of the door hinge of the glass door is not working properly, and an A4 paper with the words "This door is broken" is pasted on the corresponding half of the door. Through the door, you can see some crowded shelves inside and the boss who is moving things next to the shelves.
It looked perfectly normal, nothing could be more normal than this.
But Yu Sheng would never regard what he just saw as an "illusion" - he could still feel the burning smell with a slight sulfur taste lingering in his nostrils.
He almost took a step forward, but fortunately the aftereffects of falling into a foreign land before were still there, making him a little nervous not only about the front door of his home, but even about any door. After opening the door, he would always subconsciously hesitate for a step. Another reason why he hesitated at the door was that at the moment he opened the door, he felt... "a shudder" in his heart.
Yu Sheng stood at the door of the supermarket, calmed himself down, thought for a moment, then reached out and grasped the door handle again. Then he pushed the door open a little with a little force, and leaned his head to look inside.
It was a normal supermarket inside. Not many people were there at this time of day. The boss was still busy behind the shelves and didn't seem to notice the movement at the door.
Yu Sheng stepped back, closed the door again, then gripped the door handle tightly, took a deep breath, gritted his teeth as if he was competing with himself, and pushed the door open.
A tall woman with blonde hair and a silver-white robe stood on a platform opposite the door and turned to look at Yu Sheng in surprise.
She was very beautiful, but the ears under her blonde hair were not like those of a human. Instead, they were elegant, slender, pointed ears. There were also several gleaming tubes and data cables extending from behind her ears and connecting to her back.
However, Yu Sheng was more concerned about the wheel-like structure extending from the hem of the other party's silver-white skirt, and the mechanical limbs behind the other party that were holding various tools and swinging around in the air.
A voice came from somewhere across the door: "...Boss! The customer asked if the super light core delivered last week has been repaired."
The blonde lady didn't respond, but just stared at Yu Sheng who was standing at the door. After holding it in for a long time, she finally yelled -
"How the hell did you get in?!"
Yu Sheng slammed the door shut.
But the next second he pushed the door open again - because he didn't see clearly just now, there was an elf on the other side of the door? This was the first time he saw an elf in his life! Was it an elf?! Was there something wrong with the style of the painting?!
As the door opened, a little boy in a brown coarse Taoist robe looked at Yu Sheng in surprise. There was a circle of smoke and fire around the door frame. The little boy was fanning himself halfway with a fan, his eyes wide open as if they were about to pop out.
The next second, before Yu Sheng could even open his mouth, the little boy threw his fan away as if he had seen a ghost, and ran out, jumping and shouting: "Master! Master! Senior Brother has succeeded! A human head has been refined in Senior Brother's alchemy furnace! It has a nose and eyes! It can even breathe!"
"I fucking…"
Yu Sheng exclaimed, slammed the door shut, and took several steps back before he stood still.
He looked back at the road again and found that several passers-by were looking at this side in confusion - but they seemed to have only seen Yu Sheng's strange behavior, because the door closed quickly and no one noticed the situation of the door.
Yu Sheng could only quickly adjust his expression, pretending nothing had happened and walking aside for a while. After no one was paying attention to him, he took a few deep breaths, stood in a daze on the corner of the street and began to think about life.
Things were so chaotic and weird that he didn't even know whether he was still in shock, his worldview was reshaped, or he had survived a disaster. He only knew that it was as if twelve storms were stirring in his mind - or there were two hundred Ires beeping and buzzing at the same time, with all kinds of messed up thoughts running rampant in his heart, and he was unable to come to his senses for a full seven or eight minutes.
But he soon became certain of one thing.
Those things on the other side of the door...are not foreign.
At least the elf beauty who looked like a mechanical monster and the Taoist boy holding a fan were definitely not in a foreign land. As for the two mighty soldiers in power armor who were obviously fighting at the beginning... the environment around them was indeed bad, and it was hard to say whether it was a foreign land...
After a long time, Yu Sheng's messy head finally calmed down. All the crazy and surging thoughts were forcibly sorted out and suppressed by him. Then he lowered his head and looked at his hands.
After hesitating for a long time, he slowly reached out and reached to the side——
He was standing at the corner of the street, with only a wall next to him, a bare cement brick wall.
He stroked the bare, rough wall, shook his hand slowly, and imagined... there was a door there.
Just like when he found the hidden door handle at the end of the corridor in his home, outside the door where he found Irene, just like when he was thrown into the air by the monster in the valley at night, he subconsciously grabbed the air and opened the door back to the real world out of thin air.
He felt it, a door.
He couldn't see it, but the door appeared. He grasped the handle, and the door began to gradually materialize and take position. He turned his head slowly with a stiff expression - the door flickered in his vision, as if it could be easily opened in the next second.
"What the hell!"
Yu Sheng exclaimed in a low voice, and as he became nervous, his hand loosened subconsciously, and the "door" instantly disappeared silently on the wall.
Yu Sheng's heart was pounding, as if it would jump out of his mouth in the next second.
He took several deep breaths before he calmed down, then recalled the feeling of grabbing the door handle just now and twitched the corners of his mouth.
"Erin." He called in his heart, with... a complex emotion and hesitation that he himself could not explain.
"Hey?" Irene's voice sounded immediately, as cheerful as ever. "I was just about to contact you. You've been out for a while. Didn't you say the supermarket is at the intersection? Did you buy too much?"
Yu Sheng: “…I haven’t entered the supermarket yet.”
Irene: “Are you lost?”
The latest novel is published first on Liu9shuba!
"I'm just telling you that I probably won't consider moving again." Yu Sheng said, not paying attention to Irene's ridiculous guess.
"Ah?! Really?" Irene sounded a little happy, but also a little curious, "Why? Didn't you say that you felt something was wrong with this house? Especially once the door is opened, you might be 'thrown' somewhere..."
"Nothing, I just suddenly realized... Regarding this biggest problem, it may not be the house that's wrong," Yu Sheng sighed, "It seems to be me who's wrong."
Irene: “……?”
She didn't say anything, but Yu Sheng could imagine the puppet's expression of question marks at that moment.
"It's a bit complicated to explain, but you don't have to worry about moving anymore," Yu Sheng leaned against the wall and rubbed his forehead, "If there's a chance later... I'll tell you again."
Irene was extremely curious, but she noticed that Yu Sheng didn't seem to want to explain further, so she just said "Oh".
Afterwards, Yu Sheng ended his conversation with Irene.
He did not reveal to the other party the specific circumstances of his "opening the door", not because he was concerned about other things, but mainly because his thoughts were very confused and he had not had time to think carefully about many details of "opening the door" - the situation was too chaotic at the time, and he overlooked a lot of details, which he needed to recall and sort out slowly afterwards.
Yu Sheng decided to wait until he got back and took some time to discuss this matter with Irene.
Of course, he also knew that even if he told Irene, she would probably be as confused as he was, and would be confused too. But no matter what, it was better to discuss with someone else than to figure it out on his own.
The puppet at least has some knowledge of the supernatural - although not much.
A few minutes later, Yu Sheng walked out of the corner of the street, cheered himself up in the gradually cooling night breeze, and looked in the direction of the small supermarket not far away.
After hesitating for a moment, he took a step forward and walked towards the supermarket.
He decided to complete today's shopping plan first - although the "door" incident was disturbing, he couldn't just stop pushing open any door from today on.
But this time, he was extra cautious than any other time when he pushed open the door of the supermarket.
He tried to concentrate and feel every detail of opening the door - from the touch of his hands, to the thoughts in his heart, to the reminders from his intuition, to even the sound of the wind around him, to the shadows reflected on the glass door...
If there were other people present at this time, they would probably feel that the process of Yu Sheng opening the door was like slow motion.
Then, the supermarket door opened.
The young shop owner looked up from between the slightly crowded shelves and smiled when he saw Yu Sheng: "Oh, what do you want to buy?"
