Chapter 491: Seepage
Hu Li was a very smart girl. After Yu Sheng reminded her, she quickly came to her senses.
"You've sensed it too, haven't you?" Yu Sheng looked at Hu Li blinking and spoke slowly, "The ominous wandering star, the ominous goddess, the ominous flag, that room at the end of the second floor that occasionally spews things out, and all sorts of other clues that pop up for various reasons. These clues and information give me the feeling that..."
Yu Sheng paused, thinking carefully before continuing cautiously, "It's like it's conscious, do you understand? This 'information' about the Goddess of Omens seems alive, actively moving towards us, or more strictly speaking, towards Irene—as if it's drilling out from behind some kind of barrier, and lately, it's been drilling faster and faster."
He exhaled softly and looked up at the little puppet grinding a stone ball in the small square.
"To put it in a more 'conventional' way, the current situation is that the Omen Goddess is 'awakening'. Perhaps she's awakening within Irene, or perhaps another part of her is awakening somewhere else. She'll come to us one day, and in either case...without intelligence, we'll be very passive."
"But the very act of 'investigating' might accelerate this process," Hu Li suddenly said, tilting her head, thinking seriously. "That's what information pollution is. My teacher told me about it before."
"...Compulsory education in your area is a bit off the mark. Is this even considered an elementary school curriculum?!"
"No, this is extracurricular content," Hu Li's ears twitched, "It won't be tested."
Yu Sheng: “…”
He waved his hand, ignoring the urge to complain deep within him, and continued, "Investigation might indeed speed up the process, but the current situation is that the 'Goddess of Bad Omens' is already behind us—it's not that we're chasing her, but she's already hot on our heels. She'll catch up sooner or later anyway. The less intelligence we have, the more passive we become. So, why not take the initiative?"
Hu Li thought about it, then moved a little closer to Yu Sheng, wagging his tail vigorously: "Okay."
No matter what her benefactor does, she always supports him.
Then the two of them sat together on the roof, looking at the sky, the mountains in the distance, the town, and the Snake Queen, who had returned to town after eating and drinking. She hadn't seen anyone come out of the alley at some point, her long legs supporting half of her snake's upper body as she wandered around the town, looking like a π...
After being reminded by Hu Li next to him, Yu Sheng corrected "π" to "h".
Then another golden-haired monster like a tumbleweed emerged from the roadside. Rapunzel loudly warned the giant snake monster that was wandering around: "Hey, Snake Princess, you've turned around again!"
The snake princess hurriedly changed into a normal beautiful snake and started chatting with Rapunzel. The two talked about all sorts of things. In the end, the snake princess clapped her hands and suggested stealing the king's dried fish. Rapunzel supported her, hoping for chaos: "Okay, let's go together - I'll call the mermaid too!"
So they went together, and the two of them even tied up the mermaid who was practicing diving in the pool. After a while, the sound of ping-pong came from the 200-square-meter cat climbing frame, and an impassioned background music sounded...
Yu Sheng and Hu Li were sitting on the castle roof, enjoying the melons and watching the show. This idyllic town was once again in a state of both tranquility and bustle. Suddenly, Yu Sheng became curious: "When did the snake demon become so familiar with the long-haired girl?"
"I heard they established a friendship while being taught by Little Red Riding Hood," Hu Li said casually, craning his neck to watch the chaotic commotion at the cat climbing frame. "Ah, Long Hair got thrown down... Snake Princess got thrown down too, all in a ball."
Yu Sheng breathed a sigh of satisfaction and lay down on the roof again. From the corner of his eye, he saw a dozen mass-produced Irenes carrying stretchers and running to the cat climbing frame to cause trouble. A smile appeared on his face, and he sighed softly, "That's great."
"Yeah, that's great."
…
Irene, who was polishing the Omen Wanderer at the edge of the square, heard a noise coming from the direction of the cat climbing frame. The little doll raised her head and looked in the direction of the sound. Through the eyes of the mass-produced doll, she saw Snake Princess struggling on the ground, and Rapunzel rolling past Snake Princess like a tumbleweed.
Then came the mermaid who was dragged out by two royal champion warriors holding their arms - the latter was still shouting while being dragged away, "I'm here to sing", "They said we need bgm here so I came", "I'm a full fish and I'm here to snatch dried fish from the cat", etc., but in the end she was still thrown into the mud pit next to the cat climbing frame.
"How childish..."
The little doll withdrew the vision shared with the mass-produced self, shook his head and muttered something, then picked up the Omen Wandering Star and looked at the results of his polishing for half a day.
The bumpy and cluttered "mini planet" has not changed at all. The big rock on the ground has been worn into a deep dent, but the surface of the ominous planet seems to be free of even a speck of debris.
"Why is it so strong..." Irene frowned, knocked the Ominous Star on the ground, and looked at the stone ball carefully.
The gray stone ball slowly turned in her hand, and its bumpy surface was reflected in the doll's scarlet and bright eyes.
The reflection looked like a lone star hanging in the sky, floating alone in the blood-red universe.
The gray-white planet hanging upside down in the puppet's eyes slowly cracked, and jagged and sharp teeth emerged in the crack, like a terrifying smile.
Erin blinked.
The surroundings had become quiet without anyone noticing, as if the entire world had vanished in some distant and forgotten moment. The last ray of starlight in the distance had long since dissipated, leaving the entire world in endless darkness. Even the dark red glow that once illuminated the universe had slowly melted into the last ripple of the world's disintegration.
She stood in the endless darkness and chaos, carefully holding the gray and dying star in her hands.
There were small sounds coming from the surface of the planet - among the few remaining lights, in those last habitats, small, layered sounds, like the chirping of insects, drilling into her head.
Irene was a little confused. She was curious and wanted to hear those voices clearly, but she felt a louder noise roaring in her mind, as if some huge memories... or "information" was constantly drilling into her mind. The second before, she seemed to be able to understand what those roaring noises meant, but soon she felt her head getting dizzy. Not only could she no longer understand those voices, but even who she was and why she was here became a burden that was difficult for her mind to handle.
Suddenly, she felt something again and lowered her head.
She saw many tiny spots of light crashing into her body. Her originally small body had become so huge and strange without her knowing when. Compared with her body, those tiny spots of light were even like some glowing dust. They also made a dizzying noise, as if they were running and roaring wildly. In the blink of an eye, they turned into faint flames and dissipated.
For some reason, Irene suddenly felt a little panicked.
She didn't even know what those light spots were, but she was a little panicked - this emotion seemed to come from another "self" deep inside her body, passing through the thick curtain and spreading towards her like a tide.
They are dying;
It is dying;
She is going to die.
Something must be done to prevent the end, but time is running out—it was never enough to begin with.
Everything is already destined.
All struggles are in vain, the advent of bad omen has long been etched into the underlying laws of the world.
Those tiny sounds mixed in the huge noise suddenly became clear, layer upon layer, the faint insect sounds overlapped, and even rumbled like thunder.
Irene heard countless people praying to her. At first, there were chaotic prayers, and then fearful confessions, mixed with wishes she could not understand - many voices were blessing her with something, but the next second, she quickly forgot those voices.
She felt that she was becoming "stronger".
She didn't know what this so-called "power" was. It was a feeling that was hard to describe in words, but she did feel that she was... "exceeding" some kind of "threshold".
Her perception was expanding, her body was expanding, and she felt that she had even touched the edge of the world - or perhaps the world was collapsing and the universe was shrinking?
The newborn god had no time to think before the burning pain swept through his consciousness.
Outside the world, it hurts and cannot be touched.
There's something there that breaks everything down.
Escape...but there's nowhere to escape to.
The shell of the world that once protected it is gone.
I can only flee inwards, fleeing into my own inner self...
Irene suddenly woke up with a start.
A warm breeze blew through the town, the sky was bright and clear, and in a nearby study room some children were singing, the loudest one being tone-deaf.
Irene looked down at the Ominous Star in her hand. The huge amount of information remaining in her mind quickly dissipated like the morning dew. Then she suddenly opened her eyes wide and looked up in the direction of the castle.
"Yusheng! Yusheng!!"
The little doll yelled and ran quickly towards the castle.
The memory receded, and the last bit of "impression" remaining in the mind also sank quickly and returned to the depths of darkness.
"Yu Sheng!"
As if inertia drove her legs, Irene continued to run quickly towards the castle, but a trace of confusion had already appeared in her eyes - and then two seconds later, her running speed slowed down, but she still walked forward subconsciously, holding the cold mother planet in her hand.
"Yu Sheng..."
Irene lowered her head, looked at the gray-white stone ball in her hand, was stunned for a moment, and then laughed happily.
She waved the stone ball and showed it off to the people on the rooftop -
"Yusheng! This ball is really durable!"
