Chapter 498 Irene Has a Safe Haven

Chapter 498 Irene Has a Safe Haven

"He fell asleep already."

Looking at the little doll sleeping quietly on the sofa cushion while holding the ominous Youxing, Hu Li couldn't help but mutter.

Luna passed by the sofa, turned her head to look, and said slowly: "Because, it's time."

"Her sleep and rest schedule is quite regular," Hu Li looked up at the clock on the wall, stuffed the wool back into his tail, stood up and stretched, "I'll take her back to her room."

"Don't wake him up," Luna warned, "it will be very, noisy."

"You can't wake me up, I'm very stable~"

Hu Li said this proudly, then rolled up the little doll on the sofa with his tail and took the little guy to the second floor.

Luna glanced at the TV and saw an ad for a robot vacuum cleaner in the middle of a program. She tilted her head to watch for a moment, then turned off the TV, muttering, "Really cool, Lenovo..."

Hu Li went to the master bedroom on the second floor and found a row of neatly arranged boxes in the corner. He put the little doll with its tail curled up into one of the boxes, then carefully took out the stone ball from the doll's arms and placed it on the bedside table, tiptoeing without making any sound.

After she finished, she stood up and looked around, sniffed hard, and found another sleeping Irene under the bed - it looked like she fell asleep while trying to figure out the flashlight function of her phone watch.

After that, the fox girl searched around the house again, and found one in the bucket where umbrellas were placed, and one on the shelf in the attic. She finally collected all the Irenes like collecting fragments, and put all the sleeping dolls into the box.

She carefully finished all of this and covered all the boxes before she breathed a sigh of relief. She stood up and looked at the fruits of her labor, a look of joy and pride on her face: "I'm very steady."

As soon as Hu Li finished speaking, the two big ears on her head twitched twice as if they heard some slight movement. Then her eyes lit up, and she turned around and rushed out of the house like a gust of wind and rushed to the living room - just in time for Yu Sheng to enter the house and turn around to close the door.

Yu Sheng only felt his eyes blur, and heard a gust of wind in his ears. The next second, a ball of silver-white fur began to circle around him, so fast that it left afterimages. He also heard 360-degree surround sound in his ears:

"My benefactor, you are back~~~"

"Are you hungry, benefactor? I made some stew~!"

"Erin fell asleep. She fell asleep in a split second!"

"My benefactor, why have you been out for so long? Irene has been nagging..."

"My benefactor, you smell like a cat, sniff...it's the king!"

Yu Sheng was dizzy from the tails swirling around him. He reached out and grabbed the fox girl's head several times before finally succeeding in holding it down. He looked helplessly at the obviously overexcited big demon fox and said, "Something unexpected happened in the alley and delayed us... Stop spinning for now, I'm dizzy. Is Irene in trouble?"

"No, she's actually quite quiet, compared to when she was at her noisiest," Hu Li said happily, and then reached out and pulled Yu Sheng's arm to the restaurant. "Let's eat first. I stewed a big pot today, and it tastes delicious!"

When Yu Sheng heard this, his stomach indeed began to growl - Little Red Riding Hood and the King had gone straight to the night market after coming out of the "dark alley" and were probably showing off their barbecued skewers. He was really worried about the little treasures at home, so he came back alone first and hadn't had dinner yet.

There was a steaming hot "fox stew" on the dining table - a ball of fox fire was simmering around the stew pot, keeping the stew warm, and a slight gurgling sound could be heard from the pot. Next to the big pot was an electric rice cooker inner pot with a quarter of rice left in it. There was also a pot of cold tea on the table. No one knew how it was brewed and what ingredients were used, but the tea had a faint colorful glow and a refreshing aroma.

Yu Sheng walked over as if nothing had happened, lifted the lid of the stew pot and took a look inside, greeted the stew in the pot, then sat down and started eating.

Hu Li also served himself a bowl of stew and ate it happily beside him.

Yu Sheng, Hu Li, and the stew, the three of them had a very happy meal.

"It's rare to have such peace and quiet while eating," Yu Sheng couldn't help but sigh as he ate. "I'm actually a little uncomfortable without all the noise."

"Erin doesn't usually have to eat, but she always runs to the table to disrupt others' meals," Hu Li muttered as he slurped the soup. "Last time, she even fell into the stew pot and got beaten up by the vegetables—I told her the stew I made that day was rather fiery..."

Yu Sheng coughed twice, lowered his head and shoveled rice into his mouth.

Hu Li suddenly raised his head again and looked at him curiously: "My benefactor, did you find anything in the 'dark alley'?"

"We did find some clues," Yu Sheng paused while eating and nodded slightly, "That place... is indeed connected to the 'Goddess of Bad Omens'."

Then he told Hu Li everything about his experience in the "dark alley", and did not hide the spider silk deep in the big hole in the wall of the old bookstore and outside the strange world of the dark alley.

Hu Li listened quietly, then suddenly raised his head and looked towards the stairs to the second floor.

"Next time, I'd better take Irene with me," she said, holding the bowl, "otherwise she'll always be nagging and scratching things around the house."

"Okay, I'll take her with me next time." Yu Sheng finished the last bit of food in his bowl, put down the bowl, wiped his mouth, and burped with satisfaction. "It tastes good - I'm full."

Hu Li became cheerful and began to clean the table swiftly: "Let me clean it up. My benefactor, you should go to bed early today - exploring foreign lands is very tiring."

Yu Sheng tiptoed up to the second floor and returned to his room. In the dim light of the night light, he saw four boxes neatly arranged at the base of the wall.

A small piece of skirt was pressed into the gap of the lid of one of the boxes.

He smiled and shook his head, then walked forward and gently knocked on the lid of the wooden box.

The lid of the box was slightly pushed open from the inside, and a pair of scarlet eyes looked out from under the lid, sparkling.

"The silly fox put me in the box—she doesn't even know I need a body to sleep in," Irene muttered sullenly inside, as if trying to complain. "I won't be able to sleep like this."

Yu Sheng opened the box, and the next second, Irene jumped out of it, jumped onto the bed, and began to roll around on the bed as usual, crawling under the quilt, pushing her head against the pillow to push herself horizontally, and then climbed to the headboard and jumped into the middle of the bed...

The entire process was completely unclear, and Yu Sheng could only understand it as the boot-up animation of the little doll coming out of the box...

He watched silently from the side, waiting until Irene's startup animation was over and making sure the doll wouldn't suddenly kick him in the back before he dared to sit on the edge of the bed. Then he exhaled and turned to look at Irene, who had wrapped herself up in the quilt. "I should go to that 'dark alley' in a couple of days. You should come with me then."

Only the head of the little doll was exposed outside the quilt: "Okay."

"That 'foreign land' has clearly been invaded by external forces. This is related to the 'Goddess of Omen'."

"Um."

"From the clues we've got so far, it seems your connection to the 'Goddess of Omen' might be even deeper than we imagined. That 'mutual destruction' 3,700 years ago transformed you into the form in the painting. Perhaps, now you're no longer just 'Erin' from Alice's Cottage, but something... more 'complex.'" Having come to this point, Yu Sheng spoke out in one breath. "If that's the case, what are your plans for the future?"

Irene blinked in the quilt and looked straight at Yu Sheng.

After a long while, she suddenly said, "Save me."

Yu Sheng was stunned for a moment, then seemed to understand something. He nodded gently, "Of course, no matter how the remaining influence of that 'Omen Goddess' develops, I will definitely find a way to deal with her. I am an expert in the field of fighting angels, and I will definitely be able to save you..."

"I said I was wrapped up in the quilt and you got me out - there were too many layers."

Yu Sheng's sighs suddenly stopped, and he stared blankly at the little doll that had wrapped itself in the quilt and couldn't get out.

The latter also stared at him blankly, with a big innocence in his small eyes.

Yu Sheng's mouth twitched, and he reached out to pick up the quilt and shook it hard. The little doll rolled out from it, and then climbed back onto the bed using his hands and feet.

"I haven't thought about my future plans at all!" Irene stood in the middle of the bed, hands on her hips, confidently speaking. She hadn't forgotten the question she had asked earlier. "Please help me think about this complicated issue."

Even Yu Sheng, whose nerves had been unusually strong recently, was at a loss for words. He could only look at the little guy beside him with an expression of helplessness: "Are you serious?"

"Right," Irene continued confidently, "How would I know what to do in the future? And after all, we still haven't figured out the origins, intentions, or abilities of the 'Goddess of Omens.' I don't remember anything either, I don't have any clues. What should I do? I might as well go to bed early."

Yu Sheng was stunned by the little doll's words, but suddenly he felt that everything the little thing said seemed to make sense. After standing there for a few seconds, he laughed at himself.

"It seems... Yeah, I'm the one who's been dwelling on this." He let out a long breath, feeling a little relieved. "Let's just walk and see. It's not the hotel's style to think about things in detail... Move aside, there's no room for me."

"I want to sleep in the middle - you sleep on the side, that's the way it is~~"

Yu Sheng paid no attention to the doll's arrogant look. He grabbed her by the collar and put her on the edge of the bed (at least he didn't throw her), and then she occupied the largest space in the middle of the bed.

A moment later, he fell asleep amid the little doll's screaming, scratching and gibbering protests.
