Chapter 505: Innate Exploration of the Holy Body

Chapter 505: Innate Exploration of the Holy Body

With the efficient actions of the professional team, the ward was quickly cleaned up.

Of course, this was just a preliminary cleanup, including collecting the bodies and removing most of the bloodstains on the surface. A more cautious and rigorous "post-processing" would be required later. By then, a higher-level occult expert would come to conduct psychic observations and assessments of the entire room to ensure that no dangerous contamination remained. But that's another story.

Yu Sheng and Little Red Riding Hood followed the tall "director" back to the ward.

There are still some finishing touches here.

A strange, pungent smell floated in the air, coming from the chemical mist sprayed by the cleanup team. A Secret Service agent in a yellow protective suit was placing a small silver-white device in the center of the room. A hexagonal prism-shaped structure inlaid with blue crystals floated on top of the device. Each crystal on the surface of the prism made a slight clicking sound from time to time as it rotated. Two armed operators in light armor were guarding the door with tense expressions.

The headless corpse in front of the desk had been taken away. Two staff members were checking other traces left by the deceased. Yu Sheng saw them carefully putting a blood-stained notebook into the sample box. That was the notebook that "Sun Chen" was still writing in the afterlife.

"Wait a minute," Yu Sheng suddenly stopped the staff and stepped forward to hold out his hand towards the notebook. "Let me see."

The two staff members looked at each other, and subconsciously turned their gaze to the dean standing beside them.

The goldfish swayed its fins in the water, and a soft, magnetic voice emanated from its speaker: "Show him that he has the special investigation authority approved by the director."

Yu Sheng picked up the notebook. The staff member next to him seemed to want to remind him about protecting evidence and preventing contamination, but he soon noticed the "dean's" tacit approval (although he didn't know how he saw it), so he pulled his colleague aside silently.

Yu Sheng didn't pay attention to his surroundings, but casually flipped through the records in the notebook. He felt a small body grabbing his trouser leg and climbing up. Soon, Irene's little head came over and watched with him.

The pages were filled with chaotic and complex characters and formulas, far beyond Yu Sheng's understanding of "mathematics" - these things seemed to be some kind of "calculation", but after careful observation, he realized that there was not even a normal, logical operation symbol on it.

It is more like a person who has been immersed in a crazy and confused dream for many years, and then in a trance state of slowly waking up, his hands are completely controlled by the hallucinations and hysteria in his subconscious, and he barely paints out a "language" that does not belong to this world.

The symbols written in the notebook were even more chaotic than those on the surrounding walls.

"How long would it take one person to fill up this large volume, and also write all over the surrounding walls, floors, and even bed sheets?" Yu Sheng suddenly asked.

"If you don't eat, drink, or sleep, it might only take a day or two—maybe even less," the dean said. "A normal person would be limited by fatigue and mental capacity, but the person writing this was clearly not normal."

Yu Sheng hummed, then suddenly turned his head to look at the little doll on his shoulder: "Erin, can you... understand?"

He asked this question subconsciously, while curiously observing the expression of the little doll.

As a result, I saw that Irene was actually looking at those dazzling "formulas" seriously.

The little puppet stared at the notebook in Yu Sheng's hand with wide eyes. He first examined it carefully for a long time, then simply jumped onto Yu Sheng's arm, almost lying on the page. He said "oh" and "ah" several times, and then climbed back to Yu Sheng's shoulder. He pinched his chin and thought for a few seconds. He raised his head and said confidently: "I don't understand it at all!"

Frankly speaking, Yu Sheng's heart was already in his throat the second before she opened her mouth, but the next second, his heart almost hit his appendix. Yu Sheng felt a little uneasy: "You didn't understand. Why are you waiting for a while? I almost thought you had awakened your past life memories..."

"Didn't I think I was about to awaken?" Irene's eyes widened. "I see this is how most stories unfold. The atmosphere, clues, relevant people, and key objects are all in place. The heroine, burdened with a ton of secrets, opens a blood-stained notebook—in a movie, the background music would start, so I started to build up the atmosphere—but I had no idea that nothing would come of it in the end..."

Yu Sheng fell twice in a row before finally coming back to his feet. He resisted the urge to throw the little thing on his shoulder out the window and closed the notebook. At this time, Irene was still whispering in his ear: "...Could it be the background music? Otherwise, you can open the door and bring the mermaid over. Let her hum a suspenseful tune next to you, and I'll take a closer look..."

"I think as long as you can maintain this mindset, we won't have to worry about you awakening your past life memories." Yu Sheng returned the notes to the two staff members and glanced up at the little doll. "Alright, stop nagging. You're just causing trouble here."

"Oh," Irene said, then thought for a moment and patted Yu Sheng's head. "Are you praising me? I mean the sentence about mentality..."

Yu Sheng no longer wanted to bother with this little thing...

More than ten minutes later, they arrived at the entrance hall of Jinglin Sanatorium again.

"I'm sorry, this incident is my fault," the tall "dean" stood in front of the gate, the goldfish in the fish tank lying dejectedly at the bottom of the water. "I will explain what happened here to the director, and if there are any progress in the follow-up investigation, I will contact you immediately."

"We really need to investigate. After all... it's a bit too coincidental." Yu Sheng was naturally upset that a good clue had suddenly been interrupted, and besides being unhappy, he also felt a little uneasy. "According to the information we have, Sun Chen first came into contact with the suspected source of pollution three years ago. For a long time afterwards, apart from nightmares, he was actually not greatly affected by the 'knowledge'... Again, it doesn't make sense for the situation to suddenly deteriorate. There must be a triggering factor."

"I understand," the tall figure stood straight, and the goldfish in the fish tank bowed. "Whoever puts their hands in this sanatorium will have to pay the price."

Yu Sheng and his group left the sanatorium and followed the path through the gloomy and foggy woods. They entered the shortcut back to Jiecheng from the huge "tree hole" deep in the woods.

As Shadow Wolf quickly passed through the tunnel, Little Red Riding Hood rode the wolf to Yu Sheng.

"Do you think there's a conspiracy behind this?" she asked curiously. "Do you think that 'Sun Chen' was murdered?"

"That's just my suspicion," Yu Sheng nodded. "As for the evidence... there's nothing conclusive. The only thing I could call suspicious is what I just mentioned. The victim mentioned a 'melody', and it seems that this melody suddenly 'activated' the knowledge in his mind, causing him to start calculating - it's like a 'trigger' that appeared out of nowhere."

Little Red Riding Hood frowned. "...Do you think someone could sneak into Jinglin Sanatorium, bypass the various surveillance cameras and security personnel in the facility, sneak up on Sun Chen and play some 'melody' for him?"

"How would I know? I don't know the true capabilities of this 'Quiet Forest Sanatorium,'" Yu Sheng replied frankly. "But common sense suggests this operation would be quite difficult. While it's hard to say how capable the 'director' is, this facility is, after all, a subsidiary of the Secret Service, so the security is certainly high."

Little Red Riding Hood pursed her lips, hesitated for a moment, and then asked, "What's next? What are your plans? Are you going home to wait for news? Or..."

"...Let's go to that 'dark alley' again."

"Another trip to the dark alley?"

"The Sun Chen lead is broken. Unless the Dean can find something useful among Sun Chen's belongings, we can't expect any more clues about the Broken Tower for now," Yu Sheng said. "In that case, why not try our luck in the alley again—this time, bring Irene with you."

"That's fine too...should we call the king along?"

Yu Sheng thought about it and nodded: "Call him, we will probably have to deal with the 'cat' in the dark alley."

He paused for a moment, as if remembering something, and added, "Ah, if that's the case, you can bring someone else along."

Little Red Riding Hood looked curious: "Ah? Who to take?"

"A pioneer in the hotel industry, a master of foreign exploration, a master of the innate ability—my nephew!"

Little Red Riding Hood: "...Can it be done this way?!"

Yu Sheng: "Just tell me if you want to try it!"

"Well, that's true."

"Brother Li, why do I suddenly feel a little cold?"

Zheng Zhi, who was squatting on the curb next to No. 66 Wutong Road and eating a box lunch with Li Lin, suddenly raised his hand to touch his neck and turned his head to say.

"It's windy, the temperature has dropped in the past two days," Li Lin said, looking up at the sky as he ate his rice. "It's time for it to cool down. It's been so hot for so many days."

"Oh," Zheng Zhi said, taking two more bites of rice. Suddenly, he saw Li Lin standing up. "Hey, Brother Li, where are you going?"

"I'm going back to the house to get a can of Coke."

"Hey, can you get me a can too..."

"You're so lazy...Ice?"

"It's ice cold, thank you Brother Li!"

Zheng Zhi thanked him cheerfully, and watching Li Lin get up to get something from the small room next door, he stuffed another piece of fried chicken into his mouth and looked around casually.

Then his eyes were suddenly attracted by a long dent on the road not far away.

That was where Irene usually polished the Omen Wandering Star in the open space outside.

The little doll is quite strong (although she can't beat Hu Li and Luna), and her stone ball is really wear-resistant - it's normal for it to wear a dent on the ground over time.

Zheng Zhi stared at the dent. After a few seconds, he suddenly stood up curiously and walked over there with his lunch box in one hand.

“…What the hell is this?”

He frowned in confusion, looking at the faint black threads drifting out from the indentation.

A silk thread floated down and landed on his arm.

Chilly—chilled to the bone.

The surroundings seemed to become extremely dark in an instant.

"...I haven't even finished my meal yet, and what the hell is this coming to me?!"
