Chapter 556 Reinforcements?
At this moment, Yu Sheng could no longer hear the voices coming from the high platform—surrounded by foxfire and protected by spiritual energy, he crossed the scorching battlefield and the massive temple ruins, and for a moment he felt that the passage of time was slowing down.
The whistling sound outside the protective aura seemed distant and indistinct. The rapid acceleration of the Fox Carrot missile stretched and distorted the edges of his vision. Looking down at the earth from the air, he could only see viscous shadows rising slowly like waves at the edge of the temple. Countless bizarre shadows rushed wildly toward the intruders on the high platform. The eerie blue flames formed a wall at the edge of the shadow tide. Intertwined rays and fire rain poured down from the edge of the high platform. Smoke filled the air and the flames of war rose.
Even though he knew that those shadows had no self-awareness and were merely "distorted shadows of the past" that operated entirely on instinct, Yu Sheng was still moved at this moment.
He took a deep breath and crouched down on the fox's tail. Out of the corner of his eye, a huge "celestial bird" with magnificent tail feathers and surrounded by seven-colored spiritual light approached from the side. Yu Sheng glanced at it, wondering whether it was boiled or salt-baked—then he noticed that the bird was also looking at him with its dark, round eyes from time to time.
Yu Sheng thought for a moment, then suddenly blurted out, "Can you even speak?"
The chicken shook its head: "No."
Yu Sheng: “……?”
Holy crap, these two things have actually developed intelligence after being fed by the fox!?
Yu Sheng was shocked on the spot, but before he could continue speaking, a sense of alarm suddenly rose in his heart. He subconsciously dodged to the side, and a lightning-like black crack suddenly cut through the space at the edge of his vision!
Startled, he hurriedly looked down and saw shadows surging and bulging rapidly in the ruins of the temple!
The shadowy tide, operating entirely on instinct, seemed to have "sensed" something. The moment Yu Sheng crossed the pillars in the outer area of the temple, the viscous shadows immediately locked onto the invading enemy in the sky. The "tide" that was originally surging towards the ruins even suddenly presented a spectacular surging and rolling posture due to the rapid retreat. Large areas of shadow were piling up, extending "arms" towards the sky.
As countless shadows piled up and surged toward the sky, twisting ripples appeared around the divine corpse in the center of the ruins, and the dark cracks once again struck Yu Sheng like lightning!
"Holy crap, this even has close-in weapon systems..."
Yu Sheng cried out in surprise, and saw a fox tail suddenly light up with a propulsion flame beside him, blocking the gap amidst the roar of foxfire. The next second, accompanied by a piercing shriek and a tearing sound, the protective spiritual energy on the surface of the fox tail instantly went out. Then, a black "lightning" struck down, and the fox tail was directly shattered into pieces, exploding into countless ghostly blue flames.
All the fox tails suddenly began to accelerate and quickly adjusted their formation, trying to get Yu Sheng across the area before they were all shot down.
The white-cut and salt-baked creatures surrounding Yu Sheng reacted immediately. With two clear cries, layers of spiritual energy shields instantly closed, and then they swooped down towards the viscous shadow that was rising from the ground, fiercely fighting against the countless strange limbs and deformed spikes that were surging into the sky.
For a time, all Yu Sheng could hear were deafening explosions and piercing shrieks, interspersed with all sorts of chaotic calls from poached and salt-baked meat—sometimes sounding like crowing, sometimes like eagles howling, and sometimes even emitting ethereal cries, completely behaving as if he had been raised by a raccoon and had lost all sense of his own species…
Immediately afterwards, fire support from the high platform in the distance was deployed to the battlefield.
Dense barrages of scorching rays and foxfire rained down on the temple ruins, desperately trying to suppress the surging, dark tide of shadows.
Yu Sheng tensed up as he watched the "divine corpse," as large as a small mountain, rapidly enlarge in his field of vision. The deformed, disordered, and collapsed limbs rushed towards him like a jagged forest of bones. Rippling cracks tore open around the remains, and streaks of black lightning swept wildly across the sky—the unconscious "release" of a mere broken corpse during its decay possessed destructive power!
Deep within the decaying ruins, beneath the cracked opening, the massive and mysterious ancient mechanism became increasingly clear.
It looks like a combination of three tower-like pillars with a silver-gray metallic texture. In the center of the three pillars is suspended a Rubik's Cube-like object that is constantly disintegrating and reorganizing. Light golden light emanates from the gaps on the edge of the Rubik's Cube, flickering regularly with each disintegration and deformation of the Rubik's Cube.
The shrill whistling sounded again, and two fox tails were struck by black lightning in the peripheral vision. They only resisted for a moment before being torn into pieces.
As a tremendous alarm rose from the bottom of his heart, Yu Sheng saw the edges of the divine corpse once again shimmering with cracking ripples—dense, continuous, and endless!
"Oh no..."
Yu Sheng only had time to think that something was wrong before he broke out in a cold sweat and saw dozens of large and small cracks instantly cover the area around the divine corpse. Then, dense black "lightning" began to brew and condense in the air!
He heard Eileen's startled cry in his mind: "Yu Sheng, watch out!"
The white-cut and salt-baked foxes let out loud cries, desperately trying to break free from the entanglement of the shadows. The few remaining protective fox tails rushed in from the side, but were instantly torn to shreds by the sky full of black lightning. Then, more black lightning appeared out of thin air from all directions. The turbulent energy permeating the air made Yu Sheng feel as if his blood was beginning to boil.
But just as he was contemplating his impending death and began planning his next suicide, a deep, majestic yet subtly familiar roar suddenly shattered the sky and rapidly approached from afar.
The huge and strange pressure even seemed to slow down time.
Yu Sheng looked up in astonishment and saw a pervasive "paleness" rapidly spreading from the direction of the large spacetime rift at the mountain peak.
He also saw a colossal figure—a pure white dragon with wings that blotted out the sky and an elegant, slender body. Its scales shimmered in the chaotic sky, with a crystal-like texture.
It was as if a dragon descended from the legendary era to the present day, roaring as it swooped down from the sky with flapping wings. The entire area behind it was continuously covered with a pale texture that looked like it had "faded." Although the "faded" area lasted only a short time, it seemed to form a magnificent canopy behind the dragon. The shadows shrouded in the "faded" area instantly lost their color, as if they had been frozen in the past and were briefly still.
However, the "divine corpse" that was the source of the shadow was not affected by the dragon's power. The spreading fading area came to an abrupt end in the square near the divine corpse. Immediately afterwards, countless ripples of all sizes appeared in the air, and streaks of black "lightning" began to gather again.
When Yu Sheng saw this situation, his heart subconsciously tightened, but the next second, he saw that the pure white dragon not only did not try to dodge, but instead suddenly opened its huge mouth towards the corpse in the center of the ruins.
A roar that was almost like thunder shook the entire ruins, and a large amount of breath, like crystal dust, splashed onto the earth.
Countless tiny crystal dust particles bombarded the divine corpse, and actually temporarily suppressed the spatial cracks that were fluctuating around it, and the black lightning that had just condensed also dissipated completely.
Yu Sheng was completely stunned at this moment, his mind filled with the three soul-searching questions: "What the hell is this? Who is this? Where did it come from?" But when he saw the black lightning disappear, he was overjoyed and immediately prepared to swoop down.
But just as he lowered his fox tail and before he could accelerate, he discovered that the divine corpse had already broken free from the influence of the "Crystal Dust Breath," and large swaths of eerie ripples reappeared around it!
Even more chilling was that cracks appeared on the body of the divine corpse in the blink of an eye—countless large and small, scarlet eyes emerged from the cracks, frantically and chaotically scanning the surroundings, and then all stared at Yu Sheng, who was swooping down, and the pure white dragon that was passing through the air!
A terrifying mental shock surged into his consciousness, and the chaotic knowledge that could instantly transform an ordinary person into a fleshly minion roared in his mind—these mental shocks did not have much impact on his life, but then a large number of black lightning bolts arrived in an instant. With a loud bang, the protective spiritual energy around him was shattered, and then the fox tail under his body turned into sparks in four pieces.
Yu Sheng plummeted towards those chaotic, frenzied, scarlet eyes.
At that critical moment, he saw the pure white dragon charging towards him—
The dragon opened its claws, seemingly wanting to grab Yu Sheng, but for some reason it hesitated for a moment, then suddenly rolled over at a dangerous angle, rushing down and catching Yu Sheng with its broad back.
Yu Sheng almost fell to his death on that pile of hard scales.
Then he felt another jolt—the dragon nearly fell under the gaze of those scarlet eyes, but with a roar it struggled to fly up again, rushing with all its might towards the high platform area outside the temple ruins.
Having finally escaped the shadows, boiled and salt-baked dishes followed suit.
The little doll's loud, boisterous voice echoed in my mind: "What the heck? What's going on? Where did this come from?! Yu Sheng, you even know dragons?!"
Yu Sheng was still dizzy at this point, and could only reply, "I don't know either!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the giant dragon had already broken through the most dangerous area around the divine corpse without any trouble. Then it got rid of the shadows that were constantly surging and rising into the sky, and then swooped down towards the high platform.
When she was halfway through the charge, she folded her wings, but suddenly seemed to realize something. She quickly opened her wings and adjusted the angle to try to slow down. She opened her dragon claws again towards the platform, and in the blink of an eye she changed seven or eight angles to prepare to grab the ground.
Yu Sheng suddenly felt something was wrong.
