Chapter 595 The Fox's Principle

Chapter 595 The Fox's Principle

Yu Sheng was actually a little surprised by Baili Qing's quick reaction. After all, in his memory, this bureau chief was always a calm, composed, and rational woman who wouldn't usually consider "thinking about it" as a very reliable reason. However, he quickly came to terms with it—people always have many facets. When he first met her, Little Red Riding Hood was a cool girl, but when she got drunk, she barked at Hu Li Gou Fugui...

He then exchanged a lot of information with Baili Qing about the changes in the alleys, as well as various details of the "Bronze Knights" operation. He also showed her the cell phone that the Special Operations Bureau had given him—because the phone had some environmental recording functions.

After all, Yu Sheng was quite self-aware of his various "professional abilities." He knew that although he had many incredible abilities and his fighting skills were passable, he was probably no match for his nephew in professional skills such as "intelligence gathering" (after all, his nephew had received some specialized training). Since he couldn't judge which intelligence was useful, he might as well just dump everything he knew at once—and then give Baili Qing a headache.

Anyway, she can drag the Secret Service experts along with her to suffer the pain.

"What are your plans to do about the dark alleyway after this?" After exchanging information, Yu Sheng asked another question out of curiosity.

“First, issue a blockade order. The alley is no longer suitable for ordinary spirit detectives and investigators,” Baili Qing said with a businesslike expression. “Afterwards, we will send a deep-dive team to investigate—but given the alley’s unique layered mechanism and constantly changing characteristics, the investigation team may find nothing. Therefore, I am considering setting up a verification-type ‘Spirit Fox’ node in the alley for long-term monitoring. Of course, no matter what, the ‘Inn’s’ unlimited investigation rights will still be in effect, and your investigation team can enter the alley at any time.”

Yu Sheng stroked his chin: "Alright... I'll tell the 'cats' in the alley to stop scratching when they see humans in metal suits go in... or maybe I should tell them not to scratch anyone. I'm not sure how well they'll follow through, since those things don't seem very smart."

Bai Liqing was probably a little distracted (or maybe she really hadn't slept enough), and didn't immediately realize what Yu Sheng was saying. After a second or two, she suddenly reacted, looked up with a questioning look on her face: "...The 'cat' in the alley? How can you command the 'cat' in the alley?!"

Yu Sheng: "I got angry."

Bai Liqing: "...?!"

The next second, the director's eyes suddenly changed, with a flicker, a hint of contemplation, a joy of discovering a new continent, and an eagerness to devise a grand plan—to put it simply, for the first time, Yu Sheng felt that Baili Qing's eyes actually held a hint of "thought."

Then she spoke up: "Your 'hairy' process..."

Perhaps it was a kind of telepathic connection after the blood transfusion (or maybe it was because he was recently a bit anemic and therefore had a heightened intuition in this regard), but Yu Sheng only heard Baili Qing say a few words before he immediately realized her thoughts and interrupted her with a sincere expression: "Within the border area alone, there are thousands of alien realms, two-fifths of which have a danger level of 2 or higher, and some alien realms have entities that are endlessly respawning—"

Baili Qing: "Uh..."

Yu Sheng sighed: "I've started to get anemic lately—and I always need to stock up on 'ammunition' to deal with angels that might pop up at any time."

Baili Qing remained silent.

The director's first attempt at "thinking" did not go smoothly.

Seeing this, Yu Sheng quickly changed the subject and began to ask about the condition of Luo, who had been brought in for stomach pumping.

“She’s resting in the medical room,” Baili Qing’s expression returned to normal in an instant. “Actually, her symptoms subsided shortly after you brought her here—we examined her afterwards and found no signs of poisoning. Her hallucinations and delusions seemed more like temporary psychic interference or some kind of illusion.”

Yu Sheng: "...?"

As he listened, his eyes slowly widened, and he suddenly recalled the few words that Rapunzel had kept repeating to him before she was sent back to do her homework:

"What poisonous mushrooms? They're just ordinary magic mushrooms from the Black Forest... unlike poisonous mushrooms..."

So that blonde girl wasn't lying after all!

What the hell?! Psychic mushrooms grow in the Black Forest of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf! Is this even considered an Ankaela relic?

Baili Qing watched as Yu Sheng's expression changed repeatedly, and finally couldn't help but ask, "What's the problem?"

"Uh, no," Yu Sheng quickly waved his hand, then asked curiously, "And then what? What about Luo's side..."

Bai Liqing: "I still insisted on giving her a stomach lavage."

Yu Sheng: "?"

After a moment's hesitation, he cautiously asked, "Using public office to settle personal scores?"

“No, it’s out of caution,” Baili Qing said calmly. “After all, she will still be useful later, and she can’t afford to have any problems.”

The advantage of Baili Qing's face became apparent at this moment—Yu Sheng couldn't tell whether she was serious or suppressing her smile when she said those words.

However, she then added, "But the infirmary found out that she was the culprit behind this border bridge crisis, and they gave her a bath twice."

This time she couldn't control herself.

Yu Sheng: "..."

...

Eileen rolled over on the living room sofa, then drowsily nestled among a bunch of warm, fluffy creatures, and soon began to snore evenly.

A moment later, a fox tail stretched onto the coffee table and turned off the TV that was playing a variety show. Another tail floated to the wall, flicked its tip, and with a "snap," cleanly and decisively turned off the lights in the living room and stairwell.

A tranquil darkness enveloped the living room, with only a few warm rays of light filtering down from the second-floor stairwell to prevent the surroundings from being completely shrouded in darkness.

Hu Li turned her head to look at the little doll sleeping soundly in the middle of her big tail, and gently patted her back.

She remembers that when she couldn't sleep as a child, her mother would pat her like this.

In the darkness, the great fox demon's eyes gleamed with a golden-red light, carrying a smile.

"Eileen, no, little girl."

A voice suddenly came from the dim light. Luna stood beside the sofa and spoke.

"Actually, yes, her mind is almost like a child's," Hu Li said earnestly, squinting her eyes.

Luna turned her head to the side: "Why?"

“She thinks she is ‘Eileen’ from thousands of years ago, and some people think she is an even more ancient omen, but in fact her mind should be calculated from the fusion of the two, and then subtract the days when she was sealed in the oil painting and her mind stagnated. What’s left is just a child,” Hu Li said slowly. “My benefactor actually understands this, so he usually treats Eileen the way he would take care of a child.”

Luna looked at Hu Li, seemingly somewhat surprised: "I thought you didn't usually think about these things."

"I don't want to, but it doesn't require much brainpower," Hu Li said casually. Then she was silent for a moment before looking up at Luna standing to the side.

The "artificial saintess" stood there quietly, still wearing the nun's habit in the "Starry Night Maiden" style that Yu Sheng had bought for her at the border of Feiyu. He had bought her many clothes at the time, but she seemed to like this one the most. Even though it was damaged in the battle, she patched it up and kept wearing it.

Beyond the black robe adorned with silver threads, the metallic limbs gleamed with a cold light, and beneath the church-style veil, the pale alloy face still wore a pre-programmed, holy, and gentle smile.

But Hu Li could keenly sense that Luna was preoccupied today.

Because when she called "Eileen" just now, she didn't even have an accent.

"My benefactor will surely have a way."

Hu Li suddenly said.

Luna paused for a moment, then tilted her head slightly: "How did you know I was thinking..."

“Foxes are very clever,” Huli said unhurriedly. “I’m not just someone who knows how to eat.”

"...I...can't...remember...what...my...home..." Luna was silent for a while before finally speaking softly. She spoke as slowly and somewhat stutteringly as ever, but it was much more fluent than before. "Father, Mother, too, I can't remember."

Hu Li remained silent for a moment, lost in thought. Her golden-red eyes were deep in the night. After a long while, she suddenly broke the silence: "You can't actually be sure how much time has passed since you were transformed into an artificial saintess, right?"

A sudden, brief noise emanated from Luna's body—but she remained silent.

A warm, fluffy tail slowly curled up and wrapped around her arm.

"It could be a few years, or it could be a dozen years, or even several decades... Those bad guys certainly won't allow their 'tools' to clearly know how long they've been working, and the phrase 'back in the day' represents a very long time span. I guess that's what you're worried about."

Luna let the big tail wrap around her arm—she suddenly seemed to understand why Eileen could fall asleep so quickly inside those big tails, and why Yu Sheng liked to nap with the fox's tail as a pillow.

“My dad said that you shouldn’t worry about things that haven’t happened yet, because you might be worrying for nothing. You shouldn’t worry about things that are happening, because worrying won’t solve the problem. And you shouldn’t worry about things that have already happened—because time always moves forward, and so does the fox,” Hu Li leaned back on the sofa and looked up. “I think he makes a lot of sense.”

Luna broke the silence: "That makes sense, but it's hard to do."

“It’s okay, my dad didn’t actually manage to do it either,” Hu Li said seriously, “but it still makes sense.”

Luna paused, staring intently at the nine-tailed fox before her—in a sense, her current "family" and friend—whose pale, alloy face suddenly seemed to possess a greater sense of reality and spirituality in its smile.

She grabbed the tip of the fox's tail with her other hand.

"Then, could you please stop eating the succulents I raise?"

"No, I want to try it. It looks so chubby..."

Luna squeezed hard.

"Awooo, awooo—"
