Chapter 402: Dark Forest

"Well, that's good!" Fern nodded. "Let's stop talking nonsense and head to the next location, 'Dark Forest'! Let's go!"

The group arrived near the Dark Forest. Barbara looked ahead and said, "Is that dark forest in front the Dark Forest?" No wonder it's called the Dark Forest, it's really dark! Fern looked in the direction Barbara pointed, "Yes, that's the Dark Forest." After saying that, he turned around and looked around, "It's getting late now. We've been traveling all day. Let's find a place to rest for a night. Tomorrow morning, we'll go into the Dark Forest."

"Okay!" Barbara jumped out first: "I'm hungry." "Okay, I'm a little tired after walking all day." Qingji said and looked at the purple-gold pupil monster. The purple-gold pupil monster nodded, "There should be a cave over there, where we can go!"

When Fern heard what the purple-gold pupil monster said, his eyes lit up. It would be great if there was a cave. "Then let's go to that cave. The purple-gold pupil monster will lead the way."

The purple-gold-eyed monster walked in front, and several people followed: "I saw it when I came to the road to pee. It's not very far away, but the cave is a bit small. There should be wild beasts living in it." The purple-gold-eyed monster muttered as he walked.

The cave was not far away, and although it was small, it was big enough for them to live in. There was no sign of wild animals living in the cave, and it was cold and damp, more like a place where snakes live.

"I'm going to pick up some dry wood to make a fire and find some food." Qingji said as he walked out. "You can come with me, you can help him get some." Fern patted the purple-gold pupil monster's head and signaled him to go with Qingji. The purple-gold pupil monster nodded and followed Qingji out.

"Barbara, you and robot No. 223 clean up the cave. I'm going to see if there is any water source nearby." After giving the instructions, Fern took the kettle and was about to go out.

"Can't I go with you?" Barbara looked at Fern aggrievedly, "You always leave me alone."

Fern said helplessly: "I can find water by myself. Since you are a girl, you can stay in the cave and help us clean up a place to rest. Robot No. 223 will stay here with you, and I will be back as soon as I find water."

"Okay, I get it, go ahead!" Barbara remembered what Fulashi Atslan said, 'He is not your destined man.' She felt very uncomfortable.

Seeing that Barbara didn't say anything, Fern told her to be careful and that robot No. 223 could do any dangerous things. After giving her instructions, she left.

Seeing that Fern had left on his own, Barbara patted robot No. 223 and said, "I am obviously a water mage. Wouldn't it be more convenient for me to go find a water source? These are all excuses! Humph!"

An hour later, Qingji and the Purple-Gold-Eyed Monster returned with dry firewood, pheasants, and rabbits. Fern also returned with a full kettle. Everyone lit a fire, ate something, and then rested.

The next morning, after eating something, we set off for the Dark Forest.

The closer they got to the Dark Forest, the more oppressive the atmosphere became. They walked forward cautiously. Suddenly, a rustling sound came from the bushes behind them. Barbara grabbed Fern's arm and said, "There are sounds in the bushes behind us!"

Fern patted Barbara's hand and comforted her: "Don't be afraid." Fern looked at the bushes and saw nothing unusual: "Maybe it's the wind. Let's keep going."

Barbara nodded, but she still held Fern's hand. As they continued walking forward, a pair of green eyes emerged from the bushes.

The further they went in, the quieter it became, almost abnormally quiet. Fern and his companions stopped and looked around: "I feel like something's not quite right." Fern said as he looked around.

Hearing this, everyone nodded in unison: "It's too quiet here." Qingji looked around vigilantly.

"Rustle--" the previous sound rang out again. "Rustle--rustle--" the sounds became more and more frequent. Barbara grabbed Fern's arm nervously, not daring to make any sound.

The rustling sound became more and more frequent, and many pairs of green eyes emerged from the bushes, all staring at them. Fern took out his gun vigilantly. Suddenly, a green eye jumped out, and they could see that it was a spider, but this one was the size of an adult Tibetan mastiff. After one jumped out, the rest all jumped out, and there were about hundreds of big spiders surrounding them.

The spiders approached the people step by step. Fern shot at the first spider directly, blowing its head off. The rest of the spiders were stunned for a moment when they saw their fellow spiders being killed, and then they all rushed up like crazy. Fern was not vague either. He took out another gun and killed all the spiders that rushed up with one hand each. Later, Barbara killed one spider at a time with her water blade, and robot No. 223 killed a spider with one punch.

But there were more and more spiders, and it seemed that they could not be killed. "This is not a solution. You guys go ahead and open a path behind. I'll cover your retreat." Fern shouted to the few people.

After hearing Fern's words, several people gathered together, back to back, and slowly moved into the Dark Forest. The spiders noticed their intention and attacked more frantically, but still failed to attack them. Soon they arrived at the border of the Dark Forest. The spiders stopped attacking and no longer moved forward, as if they were afraid of the things inside. They wanted to kill them but did not dare to move forward.

Seeing that the spiders were no longer rushing forward, several people put away their weapons, looked at each other, and decided to ignore these spiders and continue to walk in. Continuing to walk in, they found that there was a layer of mist in the dark forest. Fern looked around vigilantly and suddenly felt dizzy, "Oh no, this mist is poisonous, hold your breath."

The others held their breath immediately after hearing this. A hissing sound was heard not far away. Everyone looked in the direction of the sound vigilantly, but there was nothing. "Ah--" Just as everyone was looking around, Barbara suddenly screamed. The others turned around and found that Barbara was entangled by a vine and hanging in the air. Only then did they realize that the sound just now was made by this vine! Fern took out his gun and shot at the vine, breaking it, and reached out to catch Barbara who fell, "Everyone, be careful of your feet." After the vine was broken, it grew again and attacked several people, and new vines appeared, "Oh no, these vines are not going to be finished at all, they will grow again after they are broken!"

"How about we try fire attack? Aren't trees afraid of fire?" Fern suggested.

Upon hearing this, Qingji said: “Good idea. A few of us will block them for you, and you take out the fire!” As he said that, Qingji stood in front of Fern. Fern put down the gun in his hand, picked up a dead branch on the ground, took out the fire and lit the dead branch.

After the dry branch was lit, Fern came forward with a torch. Sure enough, the vines were afraid to touch the fire. "Great, it works. These vines are afraid of fire! Find a dry branch and I'll pass the fire to you."

Afterwards, everyone took torches to drive away the vines. After walking through the vines, the fog around them disappeared. "This road is really dangerous." Barbara said. What Fulashu Atslan said was really right. "I don't know what will be waiting for us next."
