Chapter 112 Pressed to the Ground

Chapter 112 Pressed to the Ground

Lin Mengyao was tearing at Jiang Wanqiu's hand with all her might when she was suddenly startled by the sound, and the force in her hand instantly dissipated.

She instinctively turned around, and her heart skipped a beat when she saw who was standing at the door.

It's Chief Le!

Beside Chief Le stood a man and a woman, whose attire and imposing manner suggested they were no ordinary people.

Before Lin Mengyao could even organize her thoughts, the woman next to Chief Le rushed straight in.

His well-maintained face was momentarily distorted as he was overwhelmed by ecstasy and immense grief.

“Hua Hua… my Hua Hua…” Madam Cui’s voice trembled uncontrollably. She rushed to the bedside, hugged the girl curled up in Jiang Wanqiu’s arms, and burst into tears.

The sudden hug startled Cui Hua, who desperately tried to burrow into Jiang Wanqiu's arms, her arms around Jiang Wanqiu's waist tightening around her.

Jiang Wanqiu was in pain from being squeezed so tightly, but dared not move. She could only gently pat her back, trying to calm her down.

Minister Cui, who was following behind, also walked in quickly. Looking at the face he had been thinking about day and night on the bed, the man, who was nearly sixty years old and held a high position, suddenly had tears well up in his eyes.

“Hua Hua, it’s Mommy… It’s Mommy…” Madam Cui cried her heart out. Seeing her daughter’s dazed look, she cupped her daughter’s face and made her look at her. “Don’t you recognize Mommy? My child…”

"Mother?"

A slight ripple appeared in Cui Hua's muddled eyes. She stared blankly at the tear-streaked face before her, blurry fragments flashing through her mind. She paused for a moment, then burst into tears like a dam breaking, and tightly embraced Madam Cui.

"Mother!"

This call made Minister Cui unable to hold back any longer. He covered his face, turned around, and his shoulders were shaking violently.

This is his daughter, the precious baby he and his wife had longed for for so many years!

The couple had three sons before finally having a daughter when they were almost fifty. They cherished her dearly from a young age.

Six years ago, when the person went missing, the entire Cui family felt like their world had collapsed.

His wife cried all day long and wanted to go with their daughter several times, but he persuaded her to stay, telling her that if their daughter came back, she couldn't be without her mother.

It was this belief that kept them going for the past six years.

It took Minister Cui a long time to calm down.

He walked to the bedside, took his daughter's hand, and looked at her intently, as if trying to make up for the six years he had missed. Finally, he turned around, bowed deeply to Commander Le, and said in a choked voice, "Old Le, I can't thank you enough!"

Seeing this, Lin Mengyao knew her chance had come.

She quickly straightened her slightly disheveled white coat and stepped forward.

"Commander, Minister Cui, I am Lin Mengyao, Comrade Cui Hua's attending physician."

Upon hearing this, Minister Cui immediately looked at her with eyes full of gratitude: "Dr. Lin! Thank you for your hard work! Don't worry, once my Huahua recovers, our Cui family will definitely thank you and the military region profusely!"

"It's what we should do," Lin Mengyao said modestly, but she was secretly overjoyed.

Just then, Madam Cui suddenly exclaimed, "Oh dear! Why is your nose bleeding!"

Everyone looked down and saw a stream of bright red blood flowing down Cui Hua's nostrils and dripping onto her pale lips.

"Don't worry, sister-in-law," Lin Mengyao immediately stepped forward, wanting to show her professionalism, "It must have been accidentally bumped when the patient was agitated. It's a minor issue, I'll handle it."

As she spoke, she reached out to support Cui Hua's head.

"Don't touch me!" To everyone's surprise, Cui Hua reacted as if he had seen a ghost as soon as he saw her, desperately shrinking back and screaming.

Lin Mengyao's hand awkwardly froze in mid-air.

"I'll do it." A cool voice rang out.

Jiang Wanqiu gently pushed Lin Mengyao's hand away, deftly pulled a few sheets of toilet paper from the bedside table, rolled them into strips, and while softly comforting Cui Hua, skillfully helped her tilt her head back and stuffed the paper rolls into her nostrils.

She had stayed up all night, her hair was a little messy, and her eyes were tired, but her bright little face looked like a piece of warm and beautiful jade in the morning light.

As expected, Cui Hua quieted down in her hands and obediently let her do as she pleased.

Only then did the two elders of the Cui family turn their attention completely to Jiang Wanqiu.

Who is this girl? She's so beautiful and looks so young, yet her daughter is so dependent on her.

Seeing her limelight stolen, Lin Mengyao felt a mix of jealousy and resentment. Her eyes darted around, and she spoke first, her tone carrying a subtle hint: "Minister Cui, sister-in-law, this is Comrade Jiang Wanqiu. She's very kind. After rescuing Comrade Cui Hua, she insisted on staying to serve him as soon as she heard about his identity."

Upon hearing this, the expressions of the two elders of the Cui family changed slightly.

People of their status have seen too many people who are desperate to climb the social ladder.

So that's why they were so attentive—they knew about their family background. Suddenly, the gratitude I felt for Jiang Wanqiu faded, replaced by a sense of understanding.

Jiang Wanqiu frowned, about to retort, but then she saw that Cui Hua's nosebleed not only did not stop, but quickly soaked both rolls of paper, and dripped down along the gaps in the rolls.

She quickly replaced the paper roll with a new one, but it was stained red again in no time.

The bleeding wouldn't stop no matter what I did.

Lin Mengyao frowned, a hint of panic flashing across her face, but she forced herself to say, "Impossible... It's just a common bump, how could it bleed so much?"

As she spoke, she stepped forward to forcibly examine Cui Hua's nasal cavity: "No, I have to check if any blood vessels have been damaged inside!"

"No! Get away from me! You bad woman!" Cui Hua's resistance exploded to the extreme. She struggled with her hands and feet, screaming shrilly, as if Lin Mengyao were some kind of man-eating monster.

Mrs. Cui was heartbroken, hugging her daughter tightly. She turned to look at Lin Mengyao, her eyes filled with doubt: "Dr. Lin, what... what's going on? Why is Hua Hua so afraid of you?"

Lin Mengyao's lips twitched, and her hand remained awkwardly suspended in mid-air.

She forced a smile and explained dryly, "Sister-in-law, don't worry about it. Children are all like that, what child isn't afraid of wearing a white coat? Maybe she's holding a grudge because I gave her an injection yesterday. All children are like that, it's normal, it's normal."

The paper roll that Cui Hua had just filled in was instantly soaked in blood and became sticky.

Jiang Wanqiu frowned, trying to get a clean tissue, but as soon as she pulled the roll away, the blood that had been blocking her nose suddenly gushed out again, dripping down Cui Hua's chin onto the snow-white sheet, quickly spreading into a small, glaring red patch.

"Hua Hua!" Madam Cui screamed in fright, her vision went black, and her body went limp as she was about to fall backward.

"Jin Feng!" Minister Cui reacted quickly, catching his wife in his arms.

"Hydrostats! Quick, get hedrostats!" Lin Mengyao panicked and frantically gave instructions, but the busier she was, the more blood flowed, and Cui Hua's face visibly paled.

"Don't touch her!" Jiang Wanqiu couldn't stand it anymore and immediately suggested transferring her to another department for treatment. "This is surgery; her condition isn't an external injury. You've given her too many blood-activating and stasis-removing drugs; the blood isn't clotting at all! We need to get an internal medicine doctor to come and take a look!"

Chief Le, a man of many experience, was the first to react. His face darkened, and he roared at the guards at the door, "What are you all standing there for! Go! Get Director Zhao from the internal medicine department here! By the time you arrive!"

The guard jumped in alarm and ran out as fast as he could.

A few minutes later, an elderly doctor with gray hair and reading glasses came running in, panting.

"Sir, what's going on?"

"Old Zhao, take a look at him quickly!" Chief Le pointed to Cui Hua on the bed.

Director Zhao rushed to the bedside, and his expression changed after just one glance.

He placed his hand on Cui Hua's wrist, closed his eyes and concentrated for a moment, then opened his eyes and glanced at the IV drip bottle hanging next to him.

"Nonsense!" he shouted, startling everyone. "This is utter nonsense! Who gave her this kind of drug?!"

Minister Cui listened from the side, his face so dark it could drip water.

Lin Mengyao trembled from the shout, her lips turned pale, and she stammered, "Director Zhao, what's wrong with this medicine?"

"What's wrong?" The director was so angry his mustache almost stood on end, pointing at the IV drip bottle. "This is thrombolytic medication! It's for patients with thrombosis! If a healthy person uses it, their platelets won't be able to clot at all. What's the difference between this and hemophilia?! Are you treating her or killing her?!"

As he cursed, he quickly took a vial from his medicine box and deftly injected it into Cui Hua's vein: "Stop this immediately! Switch to hemostatic agent and vitamin K!"

With the injection of new medication, the raging nosebleed gradually subsided, eventually turning into a few drops of blood, and finally stopped.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Director Zhao wiped the sweat from his brow and said sternly to Chief Le and Minister Cui, "Chiefs, this family member, the patient's condition is very critical. He must be transferred to our internal medicine ward immediately so we can take over. Also," he said, his sharp gaze shifting to Lin Mengyao, "Dr. Lin, please hand over all of the patient's medical records to me immediately. I need to see how you've been treating him!"

Lin Mengyao's heart pounded in her chest.

She quickly stepped forward and argued, "Director, isn't the person fine now? It was just a normal nosebleed, once it stopped, there was no need to transfer them to another department, was there?"

"Nothing wrong?" Director Zhao sneered. "I just checked his pulse, and he's extremely weak, with both qi and blood depleted. He's practically on the verge of death! You call this a sign of being cured? Tell me, this is what you call 'nothing wrong'?"

"Dr. Lin!" Minister Cui spoke up from the side, asking with a displeased expression, "What exactly is going on?"
