Chapter 147 I Ask You, Do You Still Love Me?

Chapter 147 I Ask You, Do You Still Love Me?

But how could He Xiaoman accept this result?

"I don't believe you! You're all in cahoots to fool me!" She slammed her hand on the table, as if to cover up her guilt or to bolster her courage, and shouted at the female doctor, "Get me a different doctor! Get me an experienced doctor! You bunch of greenhorns, what do you know!"

The young female doctor was so angry at her that tears welled up in her eyes, and she didn't know how to respond.

The young doctor who rushed over from next door also looked troubled, hurriedly explaining, "Comrade, we only have two interns in the gynecology department, and Dr. Liu won't be back until the day after tomorrow..."

"I don't care! If you can't give me a clear answer today, I'm not leaving!" He Xiaoman plopped back into her chair, poised to throw a tantrum.

The two young men had no choice but to run into such a tough opponent on their very first day of training at the hospital. They exchanged a glance and could only resign themselves to running to other departments to ask for help.

A short while later, an elderly doctor with gray hair, wearing reading glasses, and looking to be in his seventies or eighties was invited over.

He still smelled strongly of medicine, clearly having been temporarily brought over from a traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy.

"Xiao He, what's wrong? I heard you're not feeling well?" The old doctor clearly recognized He Xiaoman.

Upon seeing a familiar face, He Xiaoman's arrogance immediately diminished, but she still stubbornly insisted, "Oh, Uncle Zhang, they said I... they said I'm pregnant. Could you take a look and see if they've made a mistake?"

Dr. Zhang said "Oh?", picked up the thin lab report, and squinted to examine it carefully in the light from the window.

"It's clearly written on the report," Dr. Zhang put down the lab report, adjusted his glasses, and pointed to the numbers on it for He Xiaoman to see. "The diagnosis is correct; you're pregnant. Xiao He, becoming a mother is a wonderful thing, why are you still hesitant to admit it?"

Having spent so much time in the hospital, what strange and unusual things hadn't he seen? The woman's reaction clearly showed that she had something to hide.

Finally, he added slowly, "What, could it be that this child..."

"I...I didn't!" He Xiaoman's heart skipped a beat when she was asked the question. Her eyes darted around nervously, and she quickly made up another excuse, "I just...I'm not ready to be a mother yet, and I'm a little scared all of a sudden."

When Dr. Zhang heard He Xiaoman say this, he sighed and said earnestly, "Having a child is not a matter for one person, but for both husband and wife. If you are so anxious, go home and have a good talk with your husband Jianjun. He is a man, your support. If you talk things out, you will feel better."

Having said all that, He Xiaoman dared not say another word.

She walked out of the consultation room absentmindedly, holding the prescription, wondering what to do next.

After much thought, there was only one way left—to go find Du Wenxiu!

This child is his, and only he can make decisions for himself!

He Xiaoman moved with lightning speed, dodging everyone, and ran to an abandoned logistics warehouse behind the military region.

This is the old place she and Du Wenxiu used to frequent.

Du Wenxiu was leaning against the corner smoking when she saw her coming, and lazily raised her eyelids.

Last time, Du Wenxiu tried to coax her with fake cigarettes and alcohol, claiming it was high-quality stuff he'd gotten through connections. But when his boss found out they were fake, she got furious and confronted him.

Du Wenxiu, with snot and tears streaming down his face, said that he had also been tricked. His tearful appearance softened He Xiaoman's heart.

What could she do?

She genuinely liked this man.

Unlike Zhou Jianjun, who was a blockhead, Du Wenxiu was sweet-talking and caring, always able to make her happy.

She couldn't bear to break up like this.

"Wenxiu!" He Xiaoman threw herself into his arms, her voice trembling with tears.

"Oh dear, what's wrong? Who bullied you?" Du Wenxiu hugged her and gave her a playful pinch on the waist.

He Xiaoman raised her tear-filled face, looking at him with a mixture of surprise and joy: "Wenxiu, I...I'm pregnant! It's yours!"

She even dared to fantasize that this must be a destiny ordained by God! She wanted to give birth to the child, and the two of them, no, the three of them, would run away together!

"Let's...let's elope!"

Upon hearing this, Du Wenxiu's smile froze instantly, and the fingers holding the cigarette trembled violently, burning the back of her hand with cigarette ash.

"Hiss—" He gasped, shoving He Xiaoman away. "Are you fucking crazy?! Give birth to it? Elope? You want to die, but I don't!"

These words were quite offensive, and He Xiaoman hadn't expected the man to react this way.

She stared at the man in disbelief: "You... what did you say? I'm pregnant with your child, aren't you happy? I love you so much, don't you love me?!"

Tsk, the same old phrases again.

This woman's mind is filled with nothing but these things all day long.

But it's only because this woman has these kinds of thoughts in her head that she's so easy to fool.

Frustrated, Du Wenxiu threw his cigarette butt on the ground and crushed it out with his toe. He warned the woman in front of him, "Get it out of my sight right now! Do you hear me!"

He Xiaoman's nose tingled, and tears immediately welled up in her eyes: "Why did you have to abort it?! This is our child! Don't you love me anymore?!"

Seeing her crying with tears streaming down her face, Du Wenxiu grew increasingly impatient.

But then his eyes darted around and his gaze inadvertently fell on the gleaming gold bracelet on her wrist.

This is her dowry, all golden and worth a lot of money!

And there were also the gold rings and gold earrings she mentioned...

He had already planned to pack his bags and leave in a few days, and before he left, he had to squeeze one last penny out of this stupid woman.

We can't push people too far now.

Upon realizing this, Du Wenxiu's expression instantly changed 180 degrees.

He stepped forward and embraced He Xiaoman again, his voice suddenly becoming soft and tender.

"Oh dear, look at my foul mouth! I... I was just scared!" He awkwardly wiped away her tears and sighed, "Of course I love you, and I love our child! But think about it, is eloping so easy? It costs money. Think about it, we're pregnant, and if we leave this military compound, we won't even have a decent meal. How can we be responsible for the child?"

He Xiaoman looked up, sobbing, and was caught in his trap: "Then... what should we do?"

“Listen to me,” Du Wenxiu said, her eyes darting around as she leaned close to her ear and whispered, “If we’re going to leave, we’ll leave in style! Go home first and take all your gold bracelets, gold rings, and all the receipts and cash you can get! The more the better! This is our lifeline, and it’s also our baby’s milk powder money! Later, we’ll find a small place and live happily ever after. I promise I’ll work hard to earn money so you can eat and drink well every day and be a rich lady!”

The future he described was so beautiful that He Xiaoman was instantly captivated.

She nodded vigorously, wiping away her tears: "Okay! I'll do as you say! I'll go back and get ready right away!"

Watching He Xiaoman's joyful departure, Du Wenxiu's lips curled into a disdainful smile.

As soon as Jiang Wanqiu entered the courtyard, she bumped into Zhou Jianjun.

He must have come back temporarily to pick up something; he was in a hurry.

Jiang Wanqiu thought about the hospital incident. Although she felt that He Xiaoman had some issues with her conduct, the addition of a new member to the family was always a joyous occasion.

She stepped forward, a gentle smile spreading across her face: "Brother Zhou, congratulations on becoming a father."

Zhou Jianjun suddenly looked up, staring at her blankly: "Jiang Meizi, what...what did you say?"

“I ran into Sister-in-law Xiaoman at the hospital today,” Jiang Wanqiu kindly explained. “I heard everything; the doctor said she’s a month pregnant. That’s wonderful news!”

To everyone's surprise, Zhou Jianjun's face turned pale instantly upon hearing this, and he froze on the spot, staring blankly at her.

Seeing that the man's reaction was a bit off, Jiang Wanqiu's smile gradually faded, and she asked with some confusion, "Brother Zhou, what's wrong...?"

Seeing the person in front of him sway uncontrollably, about to fall.

"Brother Zhou!" Jiang Wanqiu exclaimed, quickly reaching out to support his arm. "What happened to you? Are you alright?"

Her slender, fair hand rested on his strong arm, and even through the thick military uniform, Zhou Jianjun could still feel that soft support.

"I...I'm fine..." His lips were pale, and he managed to squeeze out a sentence.

Just then, a sharp voice suddenly rang out beside them.

"—Jiang Wanqiu!"

As soon as He Xiaoman entered the courtyard, she saw this scene at a glance—her man was pulling and tugging at Jiang Wanqiu, who had a foxy face!

Zhou Jianjun's face was deathly pale, and he looked completely lost, while that bitch Jiang Wanqiu was clinging to him, weak and boneless!

He Xiaoman rushed forward and forcefully pulled Zhou Jianjun behind her.

"You shameless vixen!" She pointed at Jiang Wanqiu's nose and cursed, "You dare to seduce my man in broad daylight! Have you no shame at all!"

“He Xiaoman,” Jiang Wanqiu retorted immediately without any politeness, “watch your mouth. I saw that Brother Zhou’s face was not right and he was about to fall, so I helped him. It’s only human nature, why do you make it sound so disgusting?”

"Pah!" He Xiaoman almost spat at Jiang Wanqiu's feet. "Help her up? I bet you'd rather help her onto the bed! You vixen, you can't resist the officers in our military compound. What are you up to? Do you think I don't know?"

It looked like He Xiaoman was about to argue with Jiang Wanqiu again.

Zhou Jianjun grabbed He Xiaoman's wrist as she was about to point forward, with such force that He Xiaoman cried out in pain, "Ouch!"

"What are you doing here!" Zhou Jianjun's face was even uglier than before.

"Let me go! Zhou Jianjun! You're still protecting this vixen!" He Xiaoman struggled, but was restrained and unable to move.

Zhou Jianjun frowned deeply as he looked at the woman in front of him: "He Xiaoman, I have something to ask you."
