Chapter 183 Wedding Night, How Do You Want Me to Touch You?
In the end, she was forcibly taken away by the crowd and escorted to the Political Department.
In the courtyard, everyone watched the farce unfold, whispering among themselves and giving each other different looks.
The Jiang sisters fighting over a man—it's really awful to hear about.
"Stop looking!" Le Yunyun stepped forward and shouted loudly to the people in the courtyard, "No one is allowed to gossip about what happened today! You ruined a military marriage and then went back and made remarks that undermined unity. You should all think carefully about the consequences!"
She was, after all, the leader's own daughter, and her words carried weight. The crowd awkwardly looked away.
Le Yunyun quickly walked to Jiang Wanqiu's side, pulled her into the house, and comforted her, "Sister Wanqiu, don't take it to heart! She just said those things on purpose to disgust you! The more you care, the more you play into her hands! This wedding should be a grand and lively affair, to tell Jiang Wanxia that we don't care about her at all!"
Jiang Wanqiu took a deep breath, her chest heaving violently, and after a long while, she nodded and said in a hoarse voice, "I understand."
She went outside again, facing the guests in the courtyard with their various expressions. Jiang Wanqiu picked up a cup of untouched tea from the table, her face now calm.
"I'm sorry for making a fool of myself in front of everyone." She smiled generously and politely. "Commander Zhao is too charming. My younger sister is young and doesn't know the rules, so she caused this commotion. Today, I'll offer tea instead of wine to apologize to everyone."
After saying that, she drank the tea in her cup in one gulp.
Everyone was perceptive; seeing that she had found a way out, someone immediately stepped in to smooth things over.
"Oh dear, what are you saying! They're just kids, they don't know any better!"
"Exactly! Just think of it as a wedding night prank! The fact that it's so lively means your future together will only get better and better!"
Others chimed in, and the atmosphere in the courtyard finally eased a bit.
Le Yunyun smiled and stepped forward, stuffing the red bellyband and small silver bracelet that she had been holding into Jiang Wanqiu's hands.
"Wanqiu, congratulations on your marriage, and may you have a baby soon!" She said, then realized her mistake and slapped her mouth. "No, you're already pregnant! Well then, I wish you and your baby a safe and healthy pregnancy!"
Jiang Wanqiu looked at the things in her hand and smiled gently, "Thank you, Yunyun."
The group exchanged auspicious words and the commotion gradually subsided into the evening.
Before leaving, Li Yanhong specifically told Jiang Wanqiu to rest early and not to overwork herself, and said that she would ask the other sisters in the compound to come and help pack up the things here tomorrow.
Jiang Wanqiu agreed to all of them.
Once everyone had left, the room finally quieted down.
Ping An walked in carrying a basin of hot water, her face serious like a little adult.
"Mom, Auntie isn't a good person." He put the basin of water next to the kang (a heated brick bed). "Don't let her come to our house anymore."
Seeing her son's sensible appearance, Jiang Wanqiu's anger dissipated considerably.
She sneered, "Tomorrow, I'll make sure she gets out of this compound!"
After washing up, she wrung out a towel, walked to the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), and gently nudged the man who was drunk and unconscious.
"Zhao Wenchang, wake up." She spoke very softly. "Get up and drink some hot water, otherwise your stomach will feel uncomfortable tonight."
As she shook him, Zhao Wenchang let out a painful "hmm" and slowly opened his eyes, his head throbbing with pain.
Looking at his bewildered expression, Jiang Wanqiu suddenly laughed, her weariness and anger turning into a helpless complaint.
"I told you not to drink so much, but you just wouldn't listen."
When she nagdredged up Zhao Wenchang's lips, he grinned, revealing two rows of neat teeth, and his eyes, tinged with a hint of naivety from the alcohol, looked rather silly.
"Isn't this a joyous occasion?" His voice was hoarse from drinking. "Everyone is giving us face, and we should accept that, shouldn't we?"
In this day and age, weddings, funerals, and social interactions are of paramount importance.
Jiang Wanqiu sighed and said, "You can't drink like this and become unconscious. It would be terrible if you ran into trouble."
Seeing that he was still frowning and clutching his forehead, looking like he was having a terrible headache, Jiang Wanqiu's heart softened. She went around behind him and let him sit down next to her.
"Don't move, let me rub it for you."
Her warm fingertips pressed gently against his temples with just the right amount of pressure, circling them in circles.
The aching pain seemed to have been truly dispelled by her supple fingertips.
Zhao Wenchang let out a long, comfortable sigh, feeling as if half of his bones had melted.
He closed his eyes, letting the woman's fragrant scent surround him, and his muddled mind cleared up a bit.
"After I fell asleep, did something happen?" he asked again with his eyes closed. "I was half asleep, and I thought I heard a lot of noise in the yard, it was a complete mess."
Jiang Wanqiu's fingers, which were pressing his head, paused almost imperceptibly.
"It's nothing," she said casually as she continued rubbing her hands. "It's just that everyone came to make a ruckus in the bridal chamber. Yunyun and the others were just fooling around and setting off some fireworks and firecrackers. It was lively for a while, and then they all left."
Zhao Wenchang didn't ask any further questions, seemingly believing him.
After a while, his tightly closed eyelids twitched, as if he were retrieving something from fragments of memory.
“Before I blacked out… I think I saw Gu Feiyan,” he said slowly. “Did he look for you?”
"Yes, they're looking for me."
Zhao Wenchang was silent for a few seconds before asking, "What...did he want to see you about?"
The tone was normal, but Jiang Wanqiu could detect a hint of tension in it.
Her fingertips paused for a moment, then she smiled and said, "What else could it be? Of course, they came to congratulate us on our wedding. They said some auspicious words and wished us... to grow old together."
"Hmm." After hearing this, Zhao Wenchang only managed to squeeze out a single syllable from his throat, and then fell silent.
The room fell silent for a moment, with only the sound of each other's breathing remaining.
Jiang Wanqiu sensed that something was wrong and was about to say something when her body suddenly felt light.
Without warning, Zhao Wenchang pulled her from behind to in front of him, firmly drawing her into his arms.
Caught off guard, Jiang Wanqiu gasped and fell onto his strong lap. The strong smell of alcohol emanating from the man made her cheeks burn.
"What are you doing!" she exclaimed, both embarrassed and annoyed, reaching out to push against his chest. "Be careful, I'm pregnant!"
But Zhao Wenchang's arms were like iron clamps around her waist, completely still. He made no further move, but simply raised his head and stared at her with his bloodshot but unusually bright eyes.
His eyes were deep, churning with emotions she couldn't decipher.
“Late Autumn,” he suddenly spoke, “do you…love me?”
She felt somewhat bewildered, her heart pounding uncontrollably. Why would he suddenly ask that?
"We're already married, why would you suddenly ask such a question?"
Her evasive answer seemed to Zhao Wenchang as a form of denial.
After a while, he loosened his grip on her arms and put her off him.
"It's nothing." He turned his face away, his voice tinged with exhaustion. "I'm still a bit tipsy, I was just rambling. You should get some rest, you've had a long day, and you're pregnant, you can't keep going like this."
After he finished speaking, he took off his shoes and lay down fully clothed on the innermost side of the kang (a heated brick bed), with his back to her.
Jiang Wanqiu pulled the man up again: "Don't sleep, you haven't changed your clothes or washed your face!"
After helping the man tidy up, Jiang Wanqiu turned off the light, climbed onto the kang (a heated brick bed) in the dark, and lay down beside him.
Jiang Wanqiu covered herself with the blanket, only revealing her clear black and white eyes, and waited quietly in the darkness.
She thought that even if he didn't do anything, he would still domineeringly pull her into his arms and hold her while she slept, just like always.
But no.
He remained motionless, his breathing steady, as if he were truly asleep.
Jiang Wanqiu felt an indescribable awkwardness in her heart.
She quietly and gradually moved closer to the man until her back gently touched his warm back.
In the past, as long as she took the initiative even slightly, Zhao Wenchang would immediately turn into a wolf and torment her until she begged for mercy.
But today, his sudden quietness made her feel a little uneasy.
Today is their big day, so even if... even if they can't do anything really intimate, they should at least hug and kiss, right?
Sensing the small movement behind him, Zhao Wenchang stiffened. He didn't turn around, but instead reached back and gently patted her arm through the blanket, like comforting a child.
"Go to sleep," he said, his voice heavy with weariness. "You're exhausted today too."
After saying that, there was no further movement.
What kind of nonsense is this?
On their joyous wedding night, her husband simply turned his back to her, patted her, and that was it?
The more she thought about it, the more upset she became. After holding it in for a long time, she finally couldn't help herself.
She moved closer to him again.
"They...they just fell asleep like that?" she muttered softly. "It's supposed to be our wedding night..."
The man's back visibly stiffened upon hearing this.
After a good ten seconds, Zhao Wenchang let out a low sigh, as if he couldn't do anything about her, and finally turned around.
The room was dark, but with the little moonlight filtering in from the window, Jiang Wanqiu could still see his bright black eyes staring straight at her.
“Didn’t you say that you were pregnant, that you were precious and wouldn’t let me touch you?” His voice was hoarse with a hint of helplessness.
She did say that, but... but that's not the same thing!
She stammered in response, "Well, that doesn't mean you can't touch me at all... Holding hands, hugging, is that okay?"
After saying that, she felt incredibly embarrassed. It was as if she had been the one eagerly seeking pleasure.
But she knew very well that she was just that kind of contradictory person.
A while ago, Zhao Wenchang was very clingy, and she complained that he was never satisfied and only knew about that one thing all day long. But now that the man has really stopped and become well-behaved, she feels empty inside and just can't shake off the feeling.
Zhao Wenchang listened to her soft explanation, remained silent for a moment in the darkness, and then his deep voice rang out again, carrying a somewhat indescribable meaning.
“Then tell me,” he asked, “how do you want me to touch you?”
