Chapter 145 She was consumed by evil spirits and made a mistake.
Zhao Hui took a deep breath, picked up two glasses filled with wine, and walked step by step to Zhao Wenchang's table.
"Brother Wenchang," Zhao Hui said, her eyes reddening as she spoke, "I...I'm getting married today. Before...I was so immature, causing you and your wife so much trouble. This drink is my apology, and I wish you...a long and happy life together."
After saying that, she tilted her head back, as if she was about to drink the wine in her glass in one gulp.
Li Qingfeng, who was standing next to her, quickly pulled her back: "Xiao Hui, drink less, this liquor is strong."
"It's okay, I'm happy today!" Zhao Hui shook off his hand, staring intently at Zhao Wenchang, and urged, "Brother Wenchang, aren't you going to drink? Is it because you won't forgive me?"
Zhao Wenchang frowned almost imperceptibly, but on such a joyous occasion, he couldn't very well refuse his bride.
He raised his glass, politely said "Congratulations on your marriage," and then drank it down.
Zhao Hui's eyes were fixed on him, her heart pounding in her chest.
One second, two seconds... a minute passed.
Zhao Wenchang's expression remained unchanged.
After they left, he even turned his head and whispered something in Jiang Wanqiu's ear, making Jiang Wanqiu's cheeks blush slightly, and she gently nudged him with her elbow.
Why is there no reaction? Could it be that the black market drug seller cheated her? Zhao Hui was both angry and resentful.
After listlessly toasting several tables, Zhao Hui stood aside, staring intently at Zhao Wenchang.
From the man's refined profile to his prominent Adam's apple.
Watching the man's well-defined knuckles grip the chopsticks.
She dared not imagine what it would be like if those hands could grasp her legs, or even her...
But the thought that she could never be with her Wenchang brother in this lifetime made her feel incredibly frustrated.
Thinking of this, Zhao Hui picked up an opened bottle of wine, poured herself a full glass, and then tilted her head back to gulp it down. The spicy liquid burned her throat, but she seemed not to feel it, only wanting to numb herself with alcohol.
Damn it, why didn't that bitch Jiang Wanqiu just freeze to death on the mountain back then!
She downed a glass while cursing, and as if that wasn't enough, she poured herself another.
I had only drunk half of it when a sudden heat rose from my lower abdomen and quickly spread to my limbs and bones.
Her body suddenly went limp, the wine glass in her hand fell to the ground with a clatter, and she almost fell over.
"Xiao Hui, what's wrong?" Li Qingfeng, who was greeting guests nearby, quickly helped her up, his face full of concern.
Zhao Hui's cheeks flushed an unnatural red, and her eyes began to glaze over.
She felt as if countless ants were crawling all over her body, making her feel hot and itchy, and her mind was extremely dizzy.
"I...I feel a little dizzy, probably from drinking too much. I want to go to the backyard to rest for a while."
"Then I'll take you back to your bedroom to rest first," Li Qingfeng said, and was about to pull Zhao Hui away.
She was panting heavily and pushed Li Qingfeng away forcefully, saying, "Don't touch me!"
Li Qingfeng was startled by the push.
Zhao Hui realized that her reaction was a bit too strong, and quickly said, "No... what I mean is, you are the groom and cannot leave the table. I can go by myself."
After saying that, she staggered toward the backyard.
The cold wind did not sober her up; instead, it fueled her inner fire even more.
Only then did she belatedly realize that she had drunk the wrong wine!
What I just drank was the very bottle I had drugged!
She wanted to find a secluded spot to rub her face with snow to calm herself down, so she hastily turned into a corner behind the woodshed. But as soon as she stopped, a dark figure emerged from behind the woodpile, blocking her way.
The man reeked of sweat and cigarette tar, and with his small eyes narrowed, he looked her up and down with ill intent.
He was Wang Laosan, a notorious drunkard in the village, who was over forty years old and still hadn't gotten married!
Wang Laosan's thieving eyes darted around Zhao Hui's flushed face, his gaze so blatant it was as if he had already stripped the woman naked.
He chuckled twice, revealing a set of teeth stained yellow from smoking, and leaned forward.
"Oh my, isn't this our village's bride? Why are you all out here in the cold wind all by yourself?" Wang Laosan feigned concern, but his eyes roamed unabashedly over her curvaceous figure. "Look at your flushed face, have you had too much to drink? Come on, let me help you rest for a while."
Zhao Hui's mind was a jumble of mush, her body felt limp as if she had no bones, and the burning lust had driven her to the brink of madness; all she wanted to do was lie down somewhere.
Upon hearing someone speak, she almost instinctively and mumbled an "uh-huh," before being supported by someone.
Wang Laosan was overjoyed; he never expected such a good thing to come to him today.
He carried Zhao Hui, dragging and lifting her along the way, and headed towards the warehouse behind the village committee.
Li Qingfeng could no longer sit still at the table.
It's been almost half a day. Zhao Hui said she went to the backyard to sober up, why hasn't she come back yet?
Feeling uneasy, he called out to two women who were on good terms with Zhao Hui: "Excuse me, sisters-in-law, could you please go to the backyard and check on Xiao Hui? Maybe she's drunk and asleep somewhere."
The two women responded and circled the backyard, even checking the toilet, but they couldn't find him anywhere.
Just as I was wondering, an auntie carrying dishes passed by and casually said, "I think I just saw Wang Laosan helping her towards the warehouse... they were probably going to get some melon seeds or peanuts."
Upon hearing this, Li Qingfeng frowned inwardly.
He sensed something was wrong, so he put down the wine bottle he was using to serve the guests and headed towards the warehouse.
The two women also sensed something was wrong and quickly followed.
The warehouse door was ajar, and the voices of a man and a woman could be heard coming from inside.
Li Qingfeng went over and suddenly pushed the door open!
The scene before them left the three of them stunned, as if struck by lightning.
In the corner of the warehouse, on a haystack, Zhao Hui's conspicuous red cotton-padded jacket was torn open, revealing a red sweater underneath, and her trousers were pulled down to her knees. Meanwhile, Wang Laosan was impatiently putting on his baggy trousers, chuckling to himself.
"ah--!"
A woman reacted and let out a piercing scream that almost ripped through people's eardrums.
Wang Laosan was so frightened by the scream that he trembled all over and his pants almost fell down.
He turned around and saw Li Qingfeng standing at the door. He panicked and pointed at Zhao Hui on the haystack, stammering, "No...it wasn't me! It was her! She was the one who grabbed me and wouldn't let go, saying she was hot..."
The commotion was so great that it quickly attracted many villagers who came to watch.
Zhao Hui was startled awake by the screams and noises. Still feeling the effects of the medicine, she had a splitting headache.
When she saw her disheveled appearance and the pointing, disdainful, and shocked looks from those around her, her mind went blank, as if it had exploded.
She ruined it!
My life is completely ruined!
On her wedding day, she was caught by the villagers in the warehouse with one of the village's hooligans...
"Wah—" After realizing what had happened, Zhao Hui buried her head in her hands and burst into tears, her cries filled with anguish and despair.
Village chief Zhao Weimin and his wife were also called over. Seeing this scene, Zhao Weimin was so angry that he trembled all over. He rushed up and slapped Wang Laosan across the face twice, making him see stars.
Li Qingfeng's face was no longer ashen; it was deathly pale.
“It wasn’t me… Dad, it wasn’t me… Wang Laosan tricked me into coming here, I don’t know anything…” Zhao Hui cried as she crawled toward Zhao Weimin, trying to grab his trouser leg.
The villagers who had gathered around had already started discussing it amongst themselves.
"I just saw her walking towards the backyard by herself, staggering. She said she had drunk too much."
"Drunk on alcohol and then sneaking into a warehouse with a man? That's incredibly audacious."
A woman who was always gossipy spoke up even more sarcastically: "Tsk tsk, can't even stand being alone on such a joyous occasion, does the Li family still want this marriage?"
All eyes were on Li Qingfeng.
Li Qingfeng was so angry that he laughed instead, and gritted his teeth as he said, "This marriage is off."
Upon hearing this, Zhao Hui cried even harder. Zhao Weimin was so angry that he raised his hand to hit his daughter, but the elderly people around him held him back tightly.
Hearing the commotion outside, Jiang Wanqiu and Zhao Wenchang also came over.
Because there were so many people, and everyone was pushing and shoving, Zhao Wenchang subconsciously pulled the petite Jiang Wanqiu closer to him.
Jiang Wanqiu peeked half of her snow-white face out from his arms and was shocked to see the scene inside. She never expected Zhao Hui to be so confused.
Just then, Zhao Hui, who was slumped on the ground, saw Jiang Wanqiu and suddenly stood up, staring intently at the woman.
The hatred in his eyes seemed to solidify into a tangible form.
"Jiang Wanqiu!" she screamed, suddenly leaping to her feet and lunging at Jiang Wanqiu like a madwoman, baring her teeth and claws. "It's all your fault! You vixen, you ruined me! If it weren't for you, Brother Wenchang would be mine! I wouldn't be like this today! Die! Die!"
"Watch out!" Zhao Wenchang reacted quickly, turning around to shield Jiang Wanqiu in his arms while simultaneously pulling Zhao Hui away with his long arm.
He used considerable force, and Zhao Hui was thrown so hard that she landed on her bottom, falling onto the cold, muddy ground, and burst into tears again.
Zhao Wenchang held the frightened girl in his arms, looked down to see if she was alright, and then looked at Zhao Hui, who was throwing a tantrum on the ground, his eyes filled with nothing but cold disgust.
"If you're crazy, go see a doctor as soon as possible." He said coldly, then put his arm around Jiang Wanqiu's waist and turned to leave.
A perfectly good wedding banquet has turned into the biggest joke in the whole village.
The next morning, before dawn, Wang Laosan, along with several thugs like himself, blocked Zhao Weimin's door.
He was a far cry from his cowardly self yesterday. He stood with his hands on his hips, spat, and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Zhao Weimin, you come out here! Your daughter seduced me in the warehouse yesterday and ruined my reputation! This needs an explanation today! Either your daughter comes with me, or you pay me back for my reputation! Otherwise, this isn't over!"
Upon hearing this, Zhao Weimin, who was inside the house, was so angry that he nearly fainted on the spot.
