Chapter 58 He was aroused by her teasing

Chapter 58 He was aroused by her teasing

He squinted, his voice extremely low, with a fierce, grinding quality:

"Then look carefully, who has more strength, me or them?"

That's a really rude thing to say...

Jiang Wanqiu's heart pounded wildly, and her cheeks instantly flushed red.

She knew that she had provoked this lion to the point of anger, and if she continued to tease him, he might really "take care of" her in front of hundreds of people.

Her eyelashes fluttered, and she stretched out a delicate white finger, tentatively and gently poking his chest, which was as hard as a rock.

The soft touch made Zhao Wenchang stiffen.

All he heard was the woman in his arms soften her voice, speaking in a soft, coquettish tone, as she hummed and said, "Of course you're the most beautiful and the most powerful."

"I was just... curious because I'd never seen you scold someone before. Oh dear, you were really fierce just now, you scared me," she looked at him with her big, watery eyes and complained softly, "You won't scold me like that in the future, will you?"

That last sentence, so soft and gentle, tickled Zhao Wenchang's heart like a tiny hook.

These gentle words instantly extinguished most of his anger.

Looking at the woman's slightly flushed cheeks and her bright, mischievous eyes, the fierce possessiveness in his heart transformed into a mixture of anger and helpless indulgence.

This woman is here to bring him bad luck.

Zhao Wenchang's Adam's apple bobbed, his face still feigning composure. He grabbed her small hand, which was still roaming against his chest, and wrapped it entirely in his rough, hot hand.

He spoke in a calm, commanding voice: "You are not allowed to come here again."

He paused, then added, "You're not allowed to look either."

Jiang Wanqiu chuckled at the man's childish words and asked in return, "If I don't come here, what will I do if I want to find you later?"

She drawled out the last syllable, her voice so soft it seemed to melt your heart, but to the man it carried a hint of mockery: "I can't wait for you at home every day, can I? What if something happens? Where am I supposed to find you?"

Zhao Wenchang: "..."

What could he do? He seemed to have no way to deal with this delicate woman.

Just as Zhao Wenchang was feeling both angry and helpless, holding his breath and not knowing what to do—

"Gurgle—"

A clear and loud voice came out of Jiang Wanqiu's stomach at an inopportune moment, breaking the delicate atmosphere between the two.

Jiang Wanqiu's face immediately flushed.

I rushed over from the village yesterday, and it was a whole day of running around. When I got home, I just ate two dry flatbreads. This morning, I was busy cleaning the house and going out to buy things, so I didn't get to have a proper hot meal at all.

He startled me, and after all that fuss, my stomach is already empty.

Zhao Wenchang was taken aback at first, then looked at her embarrassed appearance, as if she wanted to bury herself in the ground, and raised his eyebrows almost imperceptibly.

The dark storm that had been churning in those deep eyes had now softened into a faint smile.

Jiang Wanqiu felt even more embarrassed under his gaze, her face flushed: "Speaking of which, it's time for dinner, I..."

Her intention was to ask the man what he wanted to eat for lunch so she could make it when she got home, but before she could finish speaking, the man had already let go of her hand.

"It's too late," Zhao Wenchang said in a deep voice. "I've been busy with training lately and haven't had time to cook for you. Let's eat at the mess hall first; the food there is pretty good."

Jiang Wanqiu nodded upon hearing this, as she was also curious about what the soldiers usually ate.

After training for a while longer, it was time for lunch. The various battalions, having just finished training, marched in neat formation, singing military songs, and heading proudly to the mess hall.

When Zhao Wenchang brought Jiang Wanqiu over, his battalion had already assembled.

He stood in front of the group, gave them a few brief instructions, and only when he shouted "Dismissed!" did the pack of hungry wolves roar and charge into the canteen like an army.

The cafeteria was bustling with activity and steaming hot.

As soon as Zhao Wenchang walked in, he instantly attracted everyone's attention.

Especially the woman following behind him.

Fair-skinned and slender, she stood out even more than the people in magazines in this place full of rough men and military green.

Countless gazes, some curious, some amazed, and some inquisitive, were fixed on Jiang Wanqiu.

Zhao Wenchang's face immediately darkened.

He instinctively turned to the side, using his tall frame to shield Jiang Wanqiu behind him, blocking the gazes that annoyed him.

That nameless anger within him surged up again—

It seems we can't let her come to this cafeteria anymore!

When it was time to get food, he made her stand on the inside, while he stood on the outside like a wall.

After receiving the food, he led her straight to a corner seat.

The two had just sat down and hadn't even picked up their chopsticks when a clear female voice interrupted.

"Wenchang, I heard you're back?"

A tall, beautiful female military doctor walked over carrying a lunchbox.

She had short, neat hair, bright eyes, and an air of arrogance typical of children of officials.

She acted as if she hadn't seen Jiang Wanqiu at all, and gave Zhao Wenchang a familiar and friendly smile.

"The canteen has braised pork with vermicelli today. I specially asked Old Li, the head cook, for the best piece of meat with bone, and I saved it for you."

As she spoke, she picked up her chopsticks, took the largest, fattest and leanest piece of meat bone from her lunchbox, and pretended to put it into Zhao Wenchang's bowl.

Her gaze swept lightly over Jiang Wanqiu, her words carrying a hidden meaning: "I thought you only liked to gnaw on tough bones, what, your taste has changed now, and you like to eat refined grains?"

Even a fool could hear the contempt and provocation in those words.

Jiang Wanqiu tightened her grip on the chopsticks, just as she was about to speak.

Zhao Wenchang said directly, "You're late. I was just worried that I didn't get you any meat."

The piece of meat didn't end up in Zhao Wenchang's bowl.

Zhao Wenchang simply extended his chopsticks and blocked the meat in mid-air, then casually picked it up and placed it steadily in Jiang Wanqiu's bowl.

The movements were so fluid and fast that the female military doctor's smile froze on her face.

Jiang Wanqiu was also surprised and looked at the man. The latter smiled at her, looking proud: "Here comes the meat that's already prepared. I told you you wouldn't go hungry if you ate with me."

After saying that, he raised his eyelids and looked at the person who had come in. He introduced her to Jiang Wanqiu in a calm tone: "This is Lin Mengyao from the military region's medical team, Dr. Lin. She was the surgeon who operated on me when I was injured during the last mission."

Jiang Wanqiu immediately raised her head and gave Lin Mengyao, whose face was pale, a polite smile: "Hello, Dr. Lin."
