Chapter 83 Commander Zhao's Reward with the Woman

Chapter 83 Commander Zhao's Reward with the Woman

Inside the room, Jiang Wanqiu was still sitting on the bed. She had heard everything that had happened outside.

Seeing the man walk back with a gloomy look on his face, her watery eyes curved into crescents, and a smile with an ambiguous meaning appeared on her lips. She teased, "Oh, our 'wild man' is back?"

Zhao Wenchang was so charmed by her that he couldn't get angry at all. He sighed helplessly, walked to the bedside, stretched out his long arm, and pulled the woman, who was still wearing a nightgown, into his arms.

Jiang Wanqiu gasped as her nose bumped into his firm chest.

“You’re still laughing even when we’re being bullied right to our doorstep,” he said, looking down with a hint of helplessness in his voice. “There are so many people and so much gossip in this military compound; you can’t relax for a moment.”

The next morning, just as dawn was breaking, the investigation team's test results came out.

Officer Li slammed the two reports on the table with a loud "bang," his face turning ashen.

The results were crystal clear: the powdered medicine obtained as "evidence" from Liu Cuifang contained a highly sensitizing drug ingredient that was strictly prohibited from use in military hospitals! Meanwhile, the same batch of painkillers sealed in the pharmacy had completely normal ingredients.

Once the clues were connected, the fact that Lin Mengyao switched the drugs and deliberately framed him could no longer be denied.

The investigation team immediately sent people to summon Lin Mengyao.

When Lin Mengyao learned of the result in her dormitory, her heart pounded wildly with anxiety.

She knew that once the charge was proven, what awaited her would not be just a simple dismissal from the military; for intentionally harming a military family member, she could very well be sent to a military court!

No! She absolutely cannot be allowed to die like this!

The only "witness" is Liu Cui. If Liu Cui recants and says that she made a mistake with the medicine, then there is still a chance for everything to turn around!

Lin Mengyao made an excuse to the person who summoned her, saying that she needed to go to the hospital to deal with the patients she was dealing with, and then went straight to the hospital ward.

In the hospital room, Liu Cui's husband was by her bedside. He was startled when Lin Mengyao barged in with a menacing aura.

Lin Mengyao, too lazy to waste words with him, walked directly to Liu Cui's bedside, looked down at her, and said in a cold and hard voice, "Liu Cui, when someone comes to ask you for details later, I'll give you another chance. Think it over before you speak. My uncle is the deputy director of the military region's logistics department, my father is the hospital director, and my mother is also the district director. Your husband is just a lowly platoon leader. Do you want him to never get promoted, or do you want to give your son a sum of money and a bright future? The choice is yours."

Liu Cui's husband immediately understood the meaning behind those words.

Moreover, after hearing Lin Mengyao bring up such a strong family background, how could they dare to say a word against it? They immediately backed down.

He leaned closer to Liu Cui and whispered, "Cui'er, we...we can't win against them. I don't think Officer Lin did it on purpose. You should be forgiving. Just accept the bribe, change your tune, and this matter will be over, won't it?"

Liu Cui lay on the hospital bed, her face still slightly red and swollen from an allergic reaction. Listening to her husband's incessant chatter and looking at the domineering Lin Mengyao in front of her, her mind was a complete mess.

She's not stupid; she knows something's fishy about this.

"Officer Lin," she said weakly, "I just don't understand, I have no grudge against you, why would you want to harm me?"

Lin Mengyao scoffed, crossing her arms, her contempt undisguised: "Harm you? Liu Cui, you overestimate yourself. You think this is all about you?"

She leaned down and whispered in Liu Cui's ear, "It's not that I want to harm you, it's that Jiang Wanqiu who wants to harm you!"

"What's the meaning?"

"Think about what you mean yourself." Lin Mengyao straightened up and gave her a cold look. "I'm warning you, stay away from that woman from now on. She's no pushover. She looks delicate, but she's more cunning than anyone else. You were unlucky this time, taking the fall for her. But next time, you won't be so lucky."

At the military compound, just as dawn was breaking, activity gradually began to stir within the compound.

Jiang Wanqiu was sleepy and too lazy to walk far to the water room to queue for hot water, so she carried an enamel basin and prepared to make do with hot water at the public water pool in the yard.

She had a slender figure, and even in loose, old clothes, her slim waist and full curves could not be concealed. In the dim morning light, her fair face was as white as jade, and her eyes and brows carried a lazy and charming look of not having woken up yet.

She turned on the tap, and the door to the room behind her opened as well.

A young woman carrying a basin of dirty water came out. It was He Xiaoman, the daughter of the machine repair shop manager, who had only moved in two days ago.

He Xiaoman seemed not to see anyone by the pool. With a flick of her wrist, she splashed a whole basin of dirty water, covered in vegetable leaves and oil, out.

The icy, dirty water splashed up, hitting Jiang Wanqiu's trouser legs and cotton shoes squarely.

Jiang Wanqiu paused, slowly turned her head, and looked at He Xiaoman quietly with her large, watery almond-shaped eyes, her eyes devoid of warmth: "What are you doing?"

Several early-rising military wives nearby witnessed this scene and all frowned.

He Xiaoman is really outrageous. There's such a big space in the yard, and she just had to splash water right under people's feet.

Hearing the woman's question, He Xiaoman lazily raised her eyelids, glanced at Jiang Wanqiu, and seeing that her trouser leg was wet, she just tugged at the corner of her mouth and casually said, "Oh, I'm sorry."

The tone was so perfunctory it couldn't be more so.

After saying that, she didn't even bother to look at Jiang Wanqiu again. Carrying the empty basin, she swayed back into the house and slammed the door shut.

Inside the house, Zhao Wenchang was already dressed. Today was a rare day when he didn't have to go out for training and could stay at home all day. He had to deal with Bai Weiwei's matter.

Seeing Jiang Wanqiu return with a sullen face and her trouser legs still wet, he immediately frowned: "What's wrong?"

Jiang Wanqiu briefly explained the situation, and Zhao Wenchang's face immediately darkened.

"The new guy?"

"Forget it," Jiang Wanqiu shook her head when she saw the man was about to get angry. She had her own plans. "Making a fuss over such a small thing would make us seem petty. There's plenty of time in the future."

Zhao Wenchang stared at her for a few seconds, knowing she wasn't one to suffer a loss, so he didn't ask any more questions.

He walked to the door, changed into his military boots, and before leaving, he turned back.

His tall figure completely blocked out the light at the doorway, making the room several degrees darker.

Jiang Wanqiu was about to leave with the man to go to class when he stretched out his long arm, grabbed her lower back, and pressed her against the door.

“You…” Jiang Wanqiu exclaimed, looking up at the man who was so close to her.

"I'm going to seek justice for you today, shouldn't I get some reward?" Zhao Wenchang lowered his head, looking at her with a half-smile.

Jiang Wanqiu's cheeks flushed from his actions. Her watery eyes glared at him, both ashamed and angry: "What kind of hooligan are you being in broad daylight!"

"What kind of scoundrel am I to my wife?" Zhao Wenchang chuckled, his rough fingertips stroking her smooth face, his eyes as black as ink. "Where's my farewell kiss?"
