Chapter 105 Compensation
Luo Yan goes to bed late and gets up early.
When she woke up, she felt the room was very bright. While eating breakfast, she told her mother, "My curtains are getting thinner and thinner."
Liu Yinfeng thought to herself, "I'll rummage through the house and see what I have to add another layer for you."
In Luo Hong's opinion, even washing a hundred layers wouldn't help: "Just wash it a few fewer times."
The mother and daughter share a love of cleanliness; Liu Yinfeng washes the curtains several times a year, scrubbing them as if they were treated as class enemies.
She ignored her son and said, "Go away."
Why wasn't he beaten? Luo Yan was delighted to see her brother "unlucky," her eyes filled with anticipation.
Luo Hong couldn't control anyone else, and he couldn't control her either. He said, "The way your eyes dart around is like a weasel's."
Luo Yan scoffed; "What a beautiful weasel it must be!"
Yes, yes, I know she is beautiful.
Luo Hong: "You have food stuck in your front teeth."
Luo Yan's first reaction was to believe him, but she quickly remembered that she hadn't cooked any vegetables that morning, so she kicked her brother and put down the bowl, saying, "I'm going to school."
As usual, Liu Yinfeng reminded him to slow down, and seeing that her son didn't get up, she asked, "Aren't you leaving yet?"
Luo Hong said matter-of-factly, "I'm not her follower, let's go our separate ways."
Liu Yinfeng stacked the empty bowls and said irritably, "You can crawl there if you want."
As she finished speaking, she turned to her husband and said, "Hurry up too."
Luo Xinmin swallowed the last bite of steamed bun, and patted his son on the shoulder as he stood up.
Luo Hong had just finished eating and was walking out with his father when he muttered to himself, "I think I've realized that we're the most pitiful people in the whole family. Look at my mother's temper, isn't she getting more and more impatient and irritable?"
Luo Xinmin disagreed: "She only got angry because of you."
He then inquired, "Have you met any girls recently?"
Oh dear, why are we talking about this again?
Luo Hong hopped on his bicycle: "You can walk by yourself."
He rode fast and soon caught up with his sister who had left earlier. As he passed her, he taunted, "Where's your shell?"
"Shell?" Luo Yan retorted, "You're the turtle!"
Luo Hong ignored him and left his sister behind.
Luo Yan was in a hurry to go to school and didn't have time to "argue" with him, but she kept it in mind. At noon, she rushed into the car dealership with her hands on her hips, but before she could even get into position, she shut her mouth and her eyes widened as soon as she saw who was in the store.
Zhou Weifang seemed quite at ease, as if he were at home, and greeted her, "School's out."
The hands behind his back clenched tightly.
Luo Yan was very polite and felt it would be inappropriate not to respond, so she nodded.
Judging from her expression, she was only confused, not disgusted.
Zhou Weifang breathed a sigh of relief: "You look angry, what's wrong?"
Since we're in his presence, there's no need to be polite or civilized.
Luo Yan: "They've come to fight."
Luo Hong, who was working, looked up and said, "Even if I let you have thirty moves, you'd still be in trouble."
Thirty? What a boastful tone.
Luo Yan rolled up her non-existent sleeves and casually threw something at the target as a "sneak attack".
She hadn't intended to hit him, but Luo Hong dodged too quickly and ended up hitting her head-on. She clutched her forehead and said, "Watch out, or I'll make you pay for medical bills."
Luo Yan looked embarrassed and lacked confidence: "Who, who told you to run into it yourself?"
Zhou Weifang chimed in, "That's right, that's right."
"No, fine, well done," Luo Hong rolled his eyes at him. "Are you not even pretending anymore?"
Zhou Weifang said clearly, "Yes, I'm here to curry favor."
No, he's being too generous. It sounds like he's talking about where to buy cabbage.
Luo Yan was a little displeased, her brows furrowing slightly.
Zhou Weifang kept a close eye on her reaction, his heart pounding, and he could hardly control his expression.
Nervous? That's to be expected.
Although Luo Yan didn't know what was wrong, she blinked quickly a few times without saying a word.
Zhou Weifang said cautiously, "I made you miss out on a good meal yesterday, so I should treat you to a roast duck."
As he spoke, Luo Yan had already seen the things on the table, but she couldn't make up her mind for a moment, so she turned her gaze to her brother.
Before she arrived, Luo Hong had a brief chat with his childhood friend, and they reached a consensus on keeping things separate. He didn't treat the meal as if she were trying to curry favor with his sister, and sat down casually.
Luo Yan touched her face and sat down, but all her emotions were written in her eyes as she pondered: "He who eats another's food is bound to be obligated to him; he who takes another's money is bound to be obligated to him. What's going on here?"
Zhou Weifang hadn't slept all night, preparing a hundred and eighty different lines for today's meeting, considering every possible scenario. He said, "Yanyan, first..."
Everyone can pronounce a name, but the way it comes out of his mouth seems particularly different.
Luo Yan interrupted, "Don't talk, eat."
Although I was a little confused, as long as she was willing to eat it, that was fine.
Zhou Weifang pursed her lips and pushed the lunchbox toward her.
Luo Hong pulled it back again.
In the short time it took to say just a few words, he had already eaten several bites without any hesitation. When he saw two pairs of eyes looking at him, he joked, "I don't think you're hungry either."
Who isn't hungry? Luo Yan picked up her chopsticks without hesitation, but after taking a couple of bites, she would stop and think for a while, feeling that something was amiss.
She didn't move, and neither did Zhou Weifang.
The two stood there like wooden stakes, while Luo Hong "took the opportunity" to eat heartily. After finishing, he clapped his hands and went back to work—the other party was coming to pick up the car in the afternoon.
There were only two people left at the dinner table, which was barely a palm-sized space.
Luo Yan suddenly felt a little uncomfortable, but then she thought that it wasn't her who liked him, and suddenly felt a sense of self-righteousness: Who says that those who eat people are obligated to eat them? I won't.
She ate with ease, which pleased Zhou Weifang. However, he was afraid that if he said something that displeased her, she would stop eating, so he dared not utter a word.
Luo Hong glanced at her between his busy moments, but pretended not to see her—after all, he couldn't influence his sister's thoughts, nor could he influence his childhood friend's.
Luo Yan, of course, also had her own opinions.
Although she had received many advances, everyone is reserved these days, and close relationships between men and women are considered a matter of conduct. Therefore, she only received a few unsigned love letters, occasionally found some unsigned snacks, and the most daring thing was a note left inviting her to go for a walk in the park.
Those expressions, which are already quite perfunctory, are easy to refuse, and it's no surprise that they never come to fruition.
But Zhou Weifang seems to be different from all these people.
Luo Yan didn't really know what else to say to him, but she felt that "one should try one's best, but then the effort will be exhausted." She thought that if Zhou Weifang saw her cold face a few more times, he would know what it meant to back down when things got tough.
She simply kept quiet, and after finishing her meal, she took out a book to read. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Zhou Weifang tidying up the table and felt that it was a bit inappropriate. But just as she was about to lend a hand, she thought: I am so likable because I have so many good qualities. For now, it is better to be a little immoral.
Would Zhou Weifang think that she was unlikable because of this? Of course not.
After washing the dishes, he wiped his hands and leaned over: "Yanyan, I have something I'd like to ask you for help with."
Luo Yan's understanding of the phrase "deliberately indifferent" was very one-sided. She raised her chin and said, "I won't help."
Zhou Weifang finished speaking: "I'm going to Fujian next week, and I might not be back until the Mid-Autumn Festival. I'd like to enroll in the continuing education program next semester. Could you please help me register?"
Oh, that's a serious matter.
Luo Yan got to work: "The admission brochure will definitely be posted closer to the start of the semester. I'll take a look at it for you then."
Zhou Weifang thanked her and then added, "I'll bring you something delicious as a thank you gift when I get back."
"No need for a thank-you gift," Luo Yan said curtly.
He lowered his head and continued reading, becoming quite engrossed in the book.
Zhou Weifang washed a peach and handed it to her. Without thinking, she took it and ate it. After taking a bite, she realized something was wrong. She didn't know whether to swallow it or spit it out. In the end, she swallowed it anyway and glared at him because of her own carelessness.
Zhou Weifang didn't expect her to take it and eat it right away. He felt that this was a case of "there is a golden house in the book" and said, "I have one more thing to ask of you."
"Then this peach is ready to eat," Luo Yan said, taking another bite to signal him to continue.
Zhou Weifang: "I want to borrow a few books from the Jiaotong University Library to review my coursework for next semester."
Luo Yan nodded: "What book? I'll borrow it this afternoon."
Zhou Weifang: "I don't know which ones are suitable either, what do you think?"
Luo Yan was truly stumped by the question: "I can't answer it right now either. I'll think about it later."
Zhou Weifang thanked her again and didn't try to start a conversation with her about anything else.
Luo Yan gave him a strange look, threw the peach pit she had just finished eating into the trash can, washed her hands, and said, "I'm going to school now."
Once she leaves, Zhou Weifang will also leave.
Luo Hong ignored him, waving his hand like he was shooing away a fly, but knew he would come back tomorrow.

Author's Note: Tomorrow is September, and I originally planned to finish the story during the National Day holiday, but it looks like that's unlikely now. [Clown]
