Chapter 127, Part 127 (Second Update)
The department store has several counters selling paper and pens, and Luo Yan frequents one of them.
She used up her stationery quickly and came frequently, so she naturally became familiar with the sales clerk. The clerk would take a new pen from under the counter for her: "It just arrived yesterday, the ones on top have been sitting there for ages."
That's why everyone wants a salesperson in their family. Luo Yan, being quite perceptive, said, "Thank you, sister."
"What a eloquent child!" the saleswoman exclaimed, beaming. "I could be your grandmother!"
When she didn't know how to respond, Luo Yan would just smile shyly, pay the bill, and say goodbye.
Since she rarely comes here, she thought she'd browse around a bit longer. After taking a stroll on the second floor, she bought a bottle of shower gel, saying it was imported from Hong Kong.
Luo Yan had never seen this before, but she liked it as soon as she saw it in a bottle because soap tends to become sticky and annoying when it gets wet.
Of course, the price difference between the two is several tens of times.
Even she was taken aback when she paid for it. She thought to herself that if a bottle wouldn't last long, she wouldn't buy it again. She would make a point of noting the date she opened the bottle when she got home, let her mother smell it, and say, "Mom, we'll use this from now on."
It smells nice, but Liu Yinfeng knew it wasn't cheap just by looking at the few Chinese characters on it. At her age, she didn't care about such things: "I still prefer soap."
Luo Yan had only heard from the salesperson that it was particularly useful, and said, "I'll try it out tonight."
No matter how useful it is, it's still just a bathtub.
Liu Yinfeng felt it would be more cost-effective to buy more meat, but she supported her daughter's spending. After all, she was at the age where she was like a flower in full bloom, and it wouldn't be meaningful to buy it later. She patted her daughter's hair and said, "Buy it if you like it."
Luo Yan: "Right now, I just don't like the price."
Liu Yinfeng: "It's okay, my brother has money. I'll 'steal' some from him later."
Luo Yan chuckled, "I'll keep watch for you."
The mother and daughter exchanged a few words, and Liu Yinfeng went to make lunch. After eating, she started chopping filling, while Luo Yan kneaded the dough next to her. With each effort, she looked like she was about to jump up.
Liu Yinfeng was both amused and exasperated: "Alright, alright, you're just a troublemaker, go play now."
Luo Yan gritted her teeth: "I'm very strong."
Liu Yinfeng teased, "If you keep biting, someone will be eating your teeth tonight."
That's terrifying! Luo Yan pursed her lips tightly and took two steps back.
Liu Yinfeng remembered: "I noticed there are a few books I've never seen before on your brother's bedside table these past few days."
Luo Yan hadn't read a single book during the entire summer vacation. She figured that since tomorrow was the first day of school and the teachers wouldn't be lecturing much, she might as well just be sleepy.
However, she still chose the thinnest one and sat on the sofa without moving an inch until the dumplings were cooked.
Liu Yinfeng knew there were three of them who needed to eat, so she packed several lunchboxes, wrapped them in towels and tied them with rope, saying, "Yanyan, it'll get cold if we don't go out soon."
Only then did Luo Yan make a move.
She put her books and lunchbox in the bicycle basket and rode slowly because she was wearing a skirt.
Zhou Weifang had been there for a while before she arrived. Upon seeing him, she quickly explained, "I slept until after three o'clock before I got up."
See, how can you sleep until 3 a.m. if you're not sleepy? Luo Yan: "You're just using yourself like a donkey."
After speaking, she gestured with her chin for him to take the things.
Zhou Weifang reached out her hand even faster than she did, feeling that Luo Hongdu was inexplicably "disappointed" with her, and thought to herself: I should call all my childhood friends over here to see.
Zhou Weifang himself didn't realize it. He put the lunchboxes on the table and opened them one by one, first praising, "Auntie, you have great cooking skills."
Alright, Luo Hong: "My mom's not here, who am I trying to suck up to?"
Zhou Weifang: "You'll understand if you've ever eaten my mom's cooking."
I've eaten at Luo Hong's place.
The Zhou family had many children, and they were born in an era of extreme scarcity, when every family had to tighten their belts. Who would mooch a meal at someone else's house?
Zhou Weifang, however, had eaten at the Luo family's house several times and always remembered: "The best food I ever ate when I was a child was my aunt's cooking."
Although Luo Yan also thinks his mother is the best in the world, he thinks this view is probably related to the fact that he didn't eat much good food when he was a child. He said, "My mother would be overjoyed if she heard that."
Zhou Weifang: "Then please tell her for me that I want to make a good impression."
"What good impression?" Luo Yan didn't respond. She poured herself some vinegar and flipped through the remaining pages of the book.
Zhou Weifang continued the conversation she had started before she arrived, telling her friend, "According to the fruit and vegetable company's unified sales price, the profit margin is actually quite high."
Although fruit is no longer subject to mandatory unified purchase and distribution, its price still has to follow the regulations. Zhou Weifang originally thought he was going to do a business of small profits and quick turnover, but after inquiring, he found out that the fruit and vegetable company basically made no profit selling vegetables, because those are things that everyone has to eat. On the contrary, non-essential goods like fruit can be sold at a higher price.
Luo Hong thought about it carefully and realized it made sense. He said, "Can you really trust the middlemen you've found?"
Zhou Weifang: "The talks always went very well, but you can only be sure after you've actually worked together a few times."
He's not some kind of fortune teller who can figure things out after just two meetings, but there's always a middleman who knows both sides, so even if someone is bad, they can't be that bad.
"That's right," Luo Hong said. "How much is the deposit?"
Zhou Weifang: "Two hundred yuan is the most I can get."
Everyone can make money, so the risks shouldn't all fall on him.
Luo Hong: "We can afford to lose money."
The two were talking when they suddenly heard a boy call out their sister's/sweetheart's name, and they both looked over.
Luo Yan reacted only half a beat slower than the other two, and said with a smile, "Class monitor."
Class monitor? Luo Hong remembered seeing him once, and he probably didn't look like this, but he still put down his chopsticks and greeted him warmly: "Have you eaten yet, classmate? Come, come, sit down and have something to eat with us."
Class monitor: "No need, no need, I've already eaten."
Feeling a little embarrassed to come during mealtime, he said, "I'm here to buy a bicycle."
"Buying a car?" Luo Hong said, "Yan Yan's classmate, pick whatever you like."
He knew there would be a lot of people when school started, and before he could even enjoy the money from selling children's bicycles, another batch of bicycles came in. Now, the store was truly overflowing with a dazzling array of items.
The class monitor wasn't one to be coy, and he said frankly, "Brother, do you have any second-hand ones? I just need something that I can ride."
Luo Hong: "Yes. I just cleaned the phoenix yesterday. I'll bring it over for you to try it out later."
His belongings were piled up so full that he had to borrow a little space from the security guards in the next room for the time being.
The class monitor followed him out, not forgetting to say to Luo Yan, "Eat, eat, see you at school tomorrow."
Zhou Weifang had actually met this class monitor before, and then it dawned on him: "Wasn't he not this dark-skinned last semester?"
Luo Yan slapped her thigh: "No wonder I felt something was off when he came in."
Although it felt strange, I recognized it nonetheless.
Zhou Weifang inquired, "It seems you two have a good relationship."
To be honest, we don't really have any personal relationship.
Luo Yan doesn't talk much to men, and after thinking for a moment, she said, "Probably because he doesn't like me."
Perhaps because Zhou Weifang himself was a boy who really liked her, he immediately understood and said, "He's always treated you like a classmate."
Talking to him is so effortless, Luo Yan poked at the dumpling: "There are many guys who, after I talk to them for a few minutes, feel like I like them."
Because she was beautiful and didn't like socializing, any kindness she showed was mistaken for affection, which annoyed her.
To be honest, Zhou Weifang couldn't help but envy those people's confidence.
Despite all that Luo Yan said to him, he was still very unsure and didn't even have the courage to ask, "Do you want to be friends with me?" So he had to put it aside for the time being and said, "That proves that they originally wanted you to like them."
That's true, so Luo Yan was quite willing to get along with someone like the class monitor, whose eyes never showed any romantic feelings.
Luo Hong was of course aware of his sister's situation at school and was extremely friendly to this class monitor. Seeing that he had almost finished testing the car, he said, "Seventy, you can take it."
The class monitor had wanted to buy a bicycle for a long time, and only now had he saved enough money. He had done extensive research on every model of bicycle, and touching the seat, he said, "Then I'm getting a great deal."
Luo Hong: "Don't mention it. Yan Yan has always said that you take good care of her in class. Just help me promote you in the future."
The class monitor didn't hesitate and happily got on his bike after paying.
In those few minutes together, Luo Hong remarked to his sister, "No wonder you always praise him so much. It's just that I felt he didn't look like this the last time I saw him."
Luo Yan pointed out to him, "You've gotten a tan."
Luo Hong slapped his thigh: "No wonder."
The brother and sister had exactly the same reaction.
Zhou Weifang: "You two really don't feel pain."
Who among them could be less afraid of pain than him? Luo Hong brought up an embarrassing incident: "Who could be as brave as you when you had your bone scraped for treatment?"
Zhou Weifang gritted his teeth in embarrassment: "You have such a good memory."
Luo Yan chuckled and raised her hand: "I remember too."
When Zhou Weifang was about ten years old, he read the comic book version of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and believed that a real man should be like Guan Yu to be called a true man.
Just then, the "man" fell and injured himself, getting a big gash on his arm. The doctor suggested applying some anesthetic before stitching, but he insisted on being a hero and said, "Just stitch it up directly."
The doctor had a knack for dealing with these children. He pulled out a steel needle from somewhere and threatened, "If we don't use anesthesia, we'll have to use this."
Zhou Weifang tried to stay calm and said it was okay, but as soon as the other person made a move to stab him, he screamed. He still feels embarrassed when he thinks about it now, and he almost choked to death on the dumplings.
Luo Yan could only laugh less excessively, poured him some water and said, "Be careful."
Luo Hongke lacked his sister's humanity, and his laughter grew increasingly arrogant, nearly frightening the customers who were about to enter the store.
He quickly stuffed the dumpling into his mouth and swallowed it in two bites, mumbling, "Comrade, buying a car or fixing a car?"
He went about his business, while the other two continued eating.
Zhou Weifang whispered, "Can I see the class schedule you're going to make tomorrow?"
Luo Yan did not give a direct answer: "I will put it in the store."
She wanted to watch it, her brother wanted to watch it, and as for who else wanted to watch it, they had eyes on their own bodies, and she couldn't stop them.
Zhou Weifang knew this meant tacit agreement. He thought that no matter what, she was at least close to him and didn't reject him, but he didn't know how to further please her. It seemed that he could only awkwardly show his affection and wait for a glimmer of possibility of being accepted.
Even so, he was still happy, because it seemed that he was the only one in the world to have this honor.
Luo Yan had no idea what he was thinking. She waved her hand to pull him back from his wandering thoughts and said, "I called you but you didn't hear me."
Zhou Weifang finally came to his senses and asked, "What's wrong?"
Luo Yan: "I asked you if you have developed blisters on the areas that were exposed to the sun."
Actually, it had grown at first, but since she asked about now, Zhou Weifang frankly said, "No, it's just peeling."
Luo Yan felt pain just listening to it, saying, "I squeaked out in pain this afternoon after scraping my skin."
Zhou Weifang: "Where did you rub? Does it hurt? Let me see."
Luo Yan's gaze moved between the backs of her left and right hands, and she said, "I can't remember now either."
She was just trying to act cute in front of her mother, and that little trace of it quickly disappeared.
Zhou Weifang breathed a sigh of relief and joked, "If this were when I was a kid, I could cry for two hours."
Luo Yan has always admitted that she is prone to crying, and after studying biology, she became even more self-assured: "It's in my genes, it's innate."
Then his tone lowered: "Hmph, this is hereditary."
Zhou Weifang may not understand what genes are, but he knows the meaning of heredity and can't help but imagine having a daughter who looks a lot like Luo Yan in the future.
He said, "Then I'll bring my experience."
Everyone says they bring this, and everyone says they bring that.
Luo Yan: "The two of you are the ones who make me cry the most."
Zhou Weifang thought to himself that he knew he had a lot of dirt on him, so why did they always bring up the most sensitive topics? He wanted to slap himself.
But when Luo Yan thought back carefully, she wasn't actually that angry. The main thing was that she remembered very clearly how she cried, and thought that it was indeed like a demonic sound piercing her ears, and often it was a sadness that was completely unreasonable.
Therefore, both of them felt a little apologetic towards each other at the same time, and gave each other a guilty smile without saying a word.
Luo Hong was in a great mood after selling another car, but when he returned to the dining table, he felt that the atmosphere had changed again. He thought to himself: Why do I always miss things?
Even though he already knew that his sister's feelings for Zhou Weifang had changed, the future was still hard to predict. After all, the world had become so mysterious that even two people he thought were completely incompatible had developed feelings for each other.
Luo Hong was filled with emotion when he thought about it. He pushed the remaining dumplings in front of him and said, "You've already eaten a lot."
The other two people unanimously pushed their lunchboxes toward him, and for a moment the atmosphere was quite harmonious.
