Chapter 13 Safety Station

Late at night in H City, there may be fewer obvious dangers than during the day, but in the shadows shrouded in darkness, there are lurking dark figures making low laughs and roars.

From time to time, miserable human cries could be heard from the corners of the darkness.

Occasionally, a blazing fire caused by a short circuit in the wires, a car explosion, or the roar of gunfire would light up the night sky in the distance.

Yan Lingji stood on the second floor of a building on the street and looked through the window at the flames burning on the street in the distance.

The blazing firelight shone on her white coat, and the reflected light made her cheeks look slightly red, but more of it was loss. Just a moment ago, a fierce battle had taken place here, but when she arrived, there was only the blazing flames that pierced the sky.

Overturned tanks and armored vehicles were everywhere, and under the flames were charred corpses. Some of these corpses were soldiers, and some were zombies. For zombies, the flames did not scare them. Even if their bodies were burnt by the flames, it did not affect them from lying on the ground and gnawing.

Some lucky zombies even underwent special evolution in such an environment and even developed incredible fire resistance!

But most of the time, the raging fire burned everything out, leaving only charred human corpses.

The blazing flames howled in the wind, and charred human figures were running in the fire. Yan Lingji took a cold look, turned around and planned to leave without exposing herself.

Suddenly, Yan Lingji heard the sound of a door being broken open. She immediately thought that it must be a zombie. She raised the butcher knife in her hand in front of her. She found it at a stall selling braised meat. It was very sharp and easy to use.

In the darkness, she looked out the door cautiously, but before she could see clearly, a strong beam of light almost blinded her.

Immediately afterwards, a figure rushed up, and Yan Lingji was caught off guard when something cold was put against her neck.

"Stop, it's a survivor!"

Only a scream was heard and the light disappeared, but Yan Lingji's eyes were still dazzled for a short time and she could not see anything clearly.

After a while, she recovered and with the help of the fire outside the window, she could vaguely see that there were five or six soldiers in front of her.

There was also a warrior holding a dagger standing next to her, who was looking at her with an embarrassed look on his face.

Yan Lingji touched her neck and felt it was a little wet, so she knew that she was almost killed, and by her own people.

The leader stepped forward with an assault rifle and said, "Excuse me, little girl. This is an emergency. We heard the noise and thought it might be a zombie, so we accidentally hurt you. I hope you don't mind!"

"Hurry up, Xiao Zhao! You hurt the little girl and you didn't bandage her wound. You just watched her bleed!" The squad leader turned his eyes to the soldier who was holding a dagger and was at a loss.

Now their team has been broken up by zombies and there are no dedicated medical staff. Fortunately, they have learned some battlefield first aid knowledge and know how to bandage wounds.

Yan Lingji was a little excited when she saw the soldiers in front of her. It was just a minor injury. If the pain was reduced, it would only be a little itchy, nothing serious.

But encountering the army means that her safety is greatly increased. If things don't work out, she can at least know the specific location of the large military force. If things go well, she may even be arranged to leave H City directly!

While Xiao Zhao was bandaging the wound on Yan Lingji's neck, the soldiers sat down against the wall and took the time to rest and replenish their energy.

The squad leader opened the tactical command information terminal he carried with him, reported the current situation of his team to his superiors, and waited for their orders.

After the wound was bandaged, Xiao Zhao handed Yan Lingji a piece of compressed biscuit. Yan Lingji shook her head and said, "I have some snacks, you guys can have some too."

As she spoke, Yan Lingji opened her backpack, took out a large bag of snack chips and handed them to the soldiers.

"Thank you, but we have a rule that we cannot take things from the masses!" The soldiers refused one after another, especially since it was given by a beautiful woman.

"We appreciate your kindness, little girl, but we all brought our own food, so you should keep these for yourself." The squad leader also advised.

After resting for a while, the soldiers set off on their journey, but this time their main mission was to escort the survivors to the evacuation point.

With the help of satellite positioning, everyone was able to avoid those large mutant zombies. In addition, ordinary zombies were relatively sluggish at night, so they had a relatively safe journey. During this period, two survivors joined the team.

There was still an hour or two left before daylight, which was more than enough time to reach the temporary transfer station.

In H City, the troops steadily established several large evacuation areas, but those were too far away, so they could only transit to the nearest safety station, and then send a group of well-equipped troops to escort them away after gathering a group of survivors.

The security station is a three-story department store, surrounded by sophisticated defensive fortifications. There are several tanks and armored vehicles at the door. On the top floor of the supermarket, Yan Lingji even vaguely saw several equipment that looked like anti-aircraft guns.

Is this a bit too much? This is just a security station, and it feels like all this firepower could be used to launch a counterattack!

Seeing Yan Lingji's surprised look, Xiao Zhao beside him said, "As a newly opened safe spot, this place naturally requires powerful firepower, otherwise it will not be able to withstand the attack of the zombie swarm."

"These are lessons learned. The first few times we opened safe spots, we didn't bring enough equipment. We only managed to recruit a few hundred survivors, but they were devoured by the zombie hordes within a day." Xiao Zhao said in a heavy tone. "It's because of these lessons that when we open safe spots again, we must bring at least a regiment's worth of firepower. In reality, we need even more."
