Chapter 169 The Problem of Snoring

The fourth brother was unwilling to accept ten coins a day, but the villagers who helped build the house were very satisfied!

Just as dawn broke, before Yue Jiuyue's family had even finished preparing breakfast, those people arrived one after another, as if they had planned it all along.

The sun had already set, but those people still hadn't left. Liu didn't even know to refrain from cooking. She couldn't very well eat in front of them, could she?

She felt bad if she didn't give in, but if she did, she didn't know how much more food she would have to cook. She had already paid the workers, so why would Liu want to let others take advantage of her again?

They could only wait until it got dark and those people left before they could hurry up and cook, and then the family would eat in the dark.

Life is so hard that I always have the illusion that it's even harder than when we couldn't even get enough to eat.

The three Lin brothers were to work together to build the house. Of course, they would only do odd jobs and wouldn't be the main force or do any major work.

Moving bricks, pushing soil, mixing mud—they went wherever they were needed, never idle.

So, as soon as the three brothers finished dinner, they went back to their room and lay down. A few seconds later, Yue Jiuyue could hear their deafening snores.

"Grandma, Dad, the third eldest, and the youngest eldest are snoring. Dad's snoring is so loud that it keeps Mom and me awake. Mom won't even let me pinch Dad's nose."

Ignoring Liu's objections, Xiaoman complained to Yue Jiuyue.

Liu smiled helplessly at Yue Jiuyue.

She hadn't expected that Xiaoman would so openly tell her mother-in-law what had happened in her room, making her feel embarrassed, but she couldn't help but feel relieved that Xiaoman hadn't mentioned it at the dinner table.

Otherwise, in front of her two brothers-in-law... she wouldn't even be able to face anyone!

"Snoring means your dad and you two little ones are too tired from working during the day. If you don't believe me, ask your mom if you snore when you're tired from playing."

Yue Jiuyue's words eased Liu's embarrassment, but they startled Xiaoman'er, who stared wide-eyed at Liu and asked incredulously:

"Mom, do I snore too?"

She stared intently at Liu's mouth, afraid that she might utter an answer she didn't like.

Instead of following Yue Jiuyue's lead, Liu thought carefully for a moment before answering Xiaoman'er:

"Yes, Grandma is right. When Xiaoman is tired from playing, she will snore when she sleeps, but not as loudly as your dad and the others."

Xiaoman fell silent; she was unhappy.

How could she snore?

When she snores, do her parents dislike her anymore, just like she dislikes her father's snoring?

"Wow! I don't want to snore! I hope my parents don't dislike me!"

This unexpected turn of events was something neither Yue Jiuyue nor Liu Shi had anticipated.

"Pfft!"

Don't blame them for laughing when Xiaoman was so heartbroken; they just couldn't help it.

"What's wrong? What's wrong? What's wrong with Xiaoman'er?"

Lin Chaobei from the next room opened his door and peeked out into the dark main room, where the sound of Xiaoman'er crying was coming from.

"It's alright, it's alright. Fourth brother, go back to sleep. You've worked hard all day."

Madam Liu held Xiaoman'er in her arms and gently patted her younger sister.

"Little Big Big, I won't snore anymore, so you have to keep liking me."

Little Man'er hummed and hawed as she spoke in Lin Chaobei's direction.

"Oh, Xiao Da has always liked Xiao Man'er."

Lin Chaobei was still confused and didn't understand what was going on, but he subconsciously agreed.

The little girl was happy.
