Chapter 255's terrifying scenes are very similar.

Lin Chaonan glanced at Lin Chaobei's sleeve, then at his own, but ultimately said nothing and followed behind, quickly heading towards his maternal grandmother's house.

The further Yue Jiuyue walked, the more panicked she became. This was really very similar to the horror scenes in the movies. The silence grew as they walked, and she wondered if a ghost would appear and greet them at any moment.

She couldn't help but look up at the sky. Fortunately, it was noon, and even if there really was a ghost there, it must be at its weakest.

Upon arriving at the original owner's family home, Lin Chaobei didn't think too much and simply pushed open the door. The door creaked open, and Yue Jiuyue didn't even have time to hide behind Lin Chaobei.

Following Lin Chaobei through the gate, the courtyard seemed much the same as before, except that the usual tools were gone, probably put away since they were no longer needed.

"Grandma? Grandma? Uncle? Aunt?"

Lin Chaobei called out to everyone in turn, but no one answered, and no one came out to greet him with curses.

The three of them felt a sudden jolt of fear; something really had happened!

Upon entering the main room, no one was there.

There was no one in the kitchen.

The bedroom was still empty.

They even searched the outhouse and cellar, but couldn't find the person.

Lin Chaonan and Lin Chaobei went to check on their neighbor's house, but there was no one there either.

"Mother, have my maternal grandmother and uncle gone to flee the famine?"

Lin Chaobei said uncertainly.

The same thing happened to Da Wang and his men who came to their house to dig a well a few days ago. Er Wang's youngest son told him that when they finished their work and came home, all they saw was their sick cousin. Everyone else had gone to escape famine and didn't have time to wait for them to come home.

My maternal grandmother was in the same situation; she went to flee famine without anyone informing her family.

No wonder many of the wheat crops in Shanghe Village didn't sprout ears, and even those that did sprout ears were mostly empty grains. It turns out that the people of Shanghe Village had all fled to escape famine long ago.

"Maybe."

Yue Jiuyue couldn't quite describe her feelings; she felt a bittersweet mix of emotions, yet also a sense of relief.

"Let's go home."

On the way back, Lin Chaobei stopped being so boisterous and quietly followed behind Yue Jiuyue, exchanging winks with Lin Chaonan as they discussed how to comfort the "heartbroken" Yue Jiuyue.

In the eyes of the two brothers, Yue Jiuyue was a pitiful little girl who had been abandoned by her own mother and brothers. How could they not be heartbroken and sad?

Yue Jiuyue was indeed not feeling well either.

Those were, after all, the original owner's family. They left without a word, and this separation might mean they would never see each other again in this lifetime.

She felt wronged on behalf of the original owner of the body, and saddened by the fragile family ties.

They are all children born from the original owner's mother's pregnancy, so why should they be divided into different classes and degrees of closeness or distance?

"Mother, you still have the four of us brothers!"

Lin Chaonan and Lin Chaobei exchanged glances and discussed for a long time, but in the end, Lin Chaobei stepped forward to comfort Yue Jiuyue.

There was nothing he could do. Lin Chaonan had been an invisible man for so long. Although he envied Lin Chaobei for being able to get close to Yue Jiuyue, he had gotten used to keeping silent and would only step forward when needed.

"Yes, Mother still has four brothers like you. Don't worry, Mother is fine. I wonder what the situation is like on your sister-in-law's side."

Yue Jiuyue patted Lin Chaobei's arm, then couldn't help but worry about Liu Shi.

If Liu's parents were to leave without saying goodbye, it's uncertain whether Liu would be able to bear the loss.
