Because they won, the dozen or so people were very excited, feeling a sense of heroic pride in ridding the people of a scourge.
After the excitement subsided, everyone dispersed, but the special feeling in their hearts just wouldn't go away.
Yue Jiuyue was also a little excited. After leaving the county town, she led the oxcart onto the road and began to learn how to drive it.
The oxcart seller had already taught her the commands for driving the oxcart: shout "Oh" when starting, "Oh-oh" when accelerating, "Oh-oh-oh" when running fast, "Oh-oh-oh" when downshifting to stop, "Oh-hoo" when turning left (like driving a horse-drawn carriage), "hoo-hoo" when turning right, and "oh-hoo-hoo" when she wanted to shift into reverse.
It took her nearly ten minutes of rote memorization to finally remember the commands. This wasn't because she was old and her memory was failing; it was simply because there were people selling donkeys and mules nearby, and the commands were all different, making it difficult for her to concentrate and remember them.
On the way home, Yue Jiuyue kept making "ooh" sounds the whole way. The first half of the journey was for learning to drive, and the second half was just for fun.
As soon as they entered the village, the villagers of Linjiagou, who were watering and weeding in the fields by the roadside, spotted Yue Jiuyue and her oxcart.
Surprise as it may be, and admiration as it may be, everyone knows Yue Jiuyue is rich. Let alone an oxcart, even if she bought a horse-drawn carriage, the villagers would know it's normal, after all, she's incredibly wealthy!
Even so, I'm still so envious!
Some people envy, some people are jealous, and some people can't help but make sarcastic remarks.
"Look! Look at this! This widow has managed to make a living, building houses, buying land and hills, and now she's even bought an oxcart! We, who have sons and daughters, healthy parents, and lots of brothers, are not even living as well as a widow!"
"Tsk tsk tsk! What can you do? He's just incredibly lucky! He was so hungry he couldn't even afford wild vegetables, so he just dug up some random thing to fill his stomach and found five hundred taels of silver!"
"Alright! All of you, shut up! We know that this widow is living a very prosperous life, so why are you all having time to gossip? With that time, you could be weeding more weeds, and maybe your crops would grow a little better!"
"Yes, everyone, watch your mouths! Don't forget, your land is still planted with their sweet potato vines! People say 'Don't forget the well-digger when you drink the water,' how can you 'eat from the bowl and then curse the cook'?"

Some people were jealous and sour, while others spoke up for Yue Jiuyue. After all, everyone has their own life to live, and whether it's good or bad is their own business. Not to mention that Yue Jiuyue has been kind to the whole village, even if it's just an ordinary family, it's too outrageous to be so jealous of others living a good life!
The person who made the sarcastic remark was so angry that he rolled up his sleeves and reached out to grab the other person's hair.
Fortunately, the people nearby intervened quickly, preventing a bloody fight that was triggered by jealousy.
Yue Jiuyue didn't care who envied, was jealous of, or hated her. She drove the oxcart home, making "whoosh" all the way. She didn't know how the third and fourth brothers had such good eyesight. In just a few minutes, they were back home, panting, their eyes shining as they looked at the oxcart.
