Chapter 411 Xiaoman'er, a Left-Behind Child

Little Man'er threw herself at Yue Jiuyue and cried loudly.

Yue Jiuyue panicked for a moment, but luckily she reacted quickly and picked up the sewing basket before the little girl could pounce on her, otherwise the little girl would have gotten a needle in her hand!

That would be adding insult to injury.

Yue Jiuyue understood Xiaoman'er's sadness very well, but she had long forgotten that emotion and what it felt like back then. So all she could do now was pat Xiaoman'er's younger sister on the shoulder and offer some comfort.

After Xiaoman'er finished crying, she didn't go home to learn housework from Liu Shi as usual, nor did she go anywhere to gather grass for the rabbits. Instead, she sat pitifully next to Yue Jiuyue, curled up in a ball, silent, only occasionally hiccuping and sniffling.

They really look pitiful.

How did she get through the initial period of being a left-behind child?

During the day, I have to go to school and don't have time to think. I have to listen carefully in class, and the break time is only ten minutes. I can only say a few words before class starts again.

After school, she still has to do her homework. By the time she finishes dinner, it's already dark. She doesn't have any entertainment activities, so she just goes to bed on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Weekends are even busier; she has to go up the mountain with her grandmother to herd sheep and dig for medicinal herbs.

So, she only thought about her parents during the short time before falling asleep, and over time, she got used to it and even forgot about them.

Well then, let's think of a way to keep Xiaoman busy.

Little Man'er is now five years old. At this age, children should already be in kindergarten, learning nursery rhymes, dances, sports, and literacy.

Now, Xiaoman is learning to read with Master Huang, but she is still young and can only learn a limited number of characters, and she can't sit still for too long.

She would also learn to do housework from Liu. Although Liu did all the housework, Yue Jiuyue would not stop Xiaoman from doing chores. Yue Jiuyue would support her in doing what she could, such as picking wild vegetables on the back mountain to feed the rabbits.

Learning to read, doing chores, picking wild vegetables to feed the rabbits, plus eating and taking a nap, leaves little Man'er with most of the day unattended.

If that doesn't work, then hire a skilled embroiderer or someone who can teach the young lady needlework at home.

Yue Jiuyue was reluctant to send five-year-old Man'er to work as an apprentice in someone else's home or shop. Even in modern times, let alone ancient times, there were many instances of newcomers being bullied. Man'er was so young; if she was bullied, she wouldn't be able to fight back, and with no elders around to stand up for her, and if her master told her not to tell her family, Man'er would likely be bullied from then on, and her personality would become timid and submissive…

No matter how much she thinks, it's just Yue Jiuyue's own opinion. Whether she wants to learn or not is up to Xiaoman'er herself.

"Little girl, would you like to learn embroidery?"

Yue Jiuyue suddenly spoke up and asked.

"ah?"

Xiao Man'er, preoccupied with her sadness, didn't hear what Yue Jiuyue asked and looked at Yue Jiuyue blankly.

"Hey, would you like to learn embroidery?"

Yue Jiuyue patiently asked again.

Little Man: -??(?????)

The sadness and confusion vanished in an instant, replaced by a bright smile.

"I do!"
