Chapter 10. This storybook is strange. Let me take another look. ...
Xiao Qiyu assumed he had entered the wrong room until he saw the red silk decorating the tables, chairs, bed curtains, and other furniture. Only then did he realize that this pigsty-like place was indeed the house where he had lived for more than ten years.
Looking at those leisurely swinging feet, Xiao Qiyu's forehead veins throbbed uncontrollably, and his head buzzed.
He opened his lips, spitting out each word slowly and deliberately: "Cui Ying, I'll count to three, and you'd better get out of bed right now and clean up this mess, or you'll face the consequences. One, two..."
"Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine!" Cui Ying shouted. "Oh, don't worry about it. Cui Jin and the others will take care of it later. I'm watching the crucial part, so don't bother me."
Xiao Qiyu was filled with resentment. He stepped one foot across the threshold, but suddenly felt something strange under his feet. Looking down, he saw that he had stepped on a piece of melon rind. The rind was broken and sticky, and the juice was firmly stuck to the bottom of his foot.
The boy's previously calm expression finally cracked with barely suppressed rage. He looked up and snapped, "You made this mess, so you have to clean it up! Are you getting up or not? If you don't, I'll carry you and this pile of junk out here and throw you outside to feed the mosquitoes!"
"Get up! Get up! Am I ready to get up yet?!"
Cui Ying sat up, knowing that if he was slow, the man surnamed Xiao would really keep his word.
She shuffled along in her soft-soled pink silk shoes, grumbling as she picked up the oil paper package from the ground. Her movements were slow and sluggish, like a lazy cat: "You're more annoying than my father! Doesn't the Vermilion Bird Gate need you to patrol at night? Why are you back so early?"
Xiao Qiyu's grip on the food box handle tightened, and he suddenly said, "Feed the cat."
Cui Ying became curious: "When did you get a cat?"
Seeing the food box in his hand, Cui Ying asked again, "What are you holding?"
"Cat food." Xiao Qiyu lifted his eyelids, his cold phoenix eyes sweeping over her, placed the food box on the table, and walked straight behind the magnolia and Suzhou embroidery double-sided screen.
Behind the screen, there was a set of clean water and bath beans that had been prepared in advance, along with a clean set of men's undergarments and a woman's thin silk skirt. The skirt's chest area looked as if it had been deliberately opened and re-sewn, and it was very low-cut with delicate and beautiful embroidery on the edges.
Cui Ying busied herself collecting the goose bones that had been scattered all over the table. Curious, she lifted the lid of the food box and found it full of delicious food. Overjoyed, she exclaimed, "What a coincidence! Your cat has the same taste as me!"
Unaware of the clear, cool sound of water coming from behind the screen, or the strong silhouette reflected on the screen.
After Cui Ying finished eating, he lost interest in fighting the cat for food. He closed the food box, stuffed all the goose bones on the table into an oil paper bag, threw the leftover pastries into a plate, and considered himself done. He clapped his hands and prepared to return to his couch to continue reading his storybook.
But before she could even turn around, a figure rushed ahead and laid down on the couch with an imposing air.
On the bed, Xiao Qiyu was covered in dampness, his ponytail hanging wetly down in front of his waist, and his ivory-white undergarment was also soaked, clinging to his narrow, slender, and strong waist and abdomen.
Having removed his light armor and inner robe, and without the cumbersome accessories of a captain, his simple white clothes and ribbon-tied hair made him appear even more handsome and youthful.
Cui Ying was taken aback, then frowned and asked, "Why did you lie down there?"
Xiao Qiyu raised an eyebrow at her, his tone completely matter-of-fact: "How can you sleep if you don't lie down?"
Cui Ying frowned even more: "But if you sleep here, where am I supposed to sleep?"
Seeing that Xiao Qiyu remained unmoved, Cui Ying became anxious: "I don't care, get up now."
Xiao Qiyu simply spread his shoulders, completely relaxing his lying position, showing no intention of getting out of bed. His eyes were deep and hooked as he provocatively glanced at Cui Ying.
"you!"
Cui Ying was furious, but there was nothing she could do. She felt that the tables had turned. Last night she had the upper hand, kicking and biting Xiao Qiyu and even taking the bed. Tonight, it was Xiao Qiyu's turn to torment her.
No, Cui Ying has never felt so humiliated before!
The bright, soft lamplight cast undulating shadows on the girl's fair and delicate face, revealing the unyielding resentment in her eyes.
Suddenly, her bright almond-shaped eyes blinked, her brows relaxed, and a hundred clever ideas came to mind.
"Oh dear." Cui Ying sighed, as if she had suddenly come to a realization, and said casually, "Since there's only one bed in this room anyway, and you're not leaving, I guess I'll just have to squeeze in with you. I'm sure you won't mind, will you?"
Xiao Qiyu ignored him, closed his eyes to rest, and covered his eyes with his long eyelashes.
Seeing that he didn't move, Cui Ying thought to herself, "Damn it," but remained calm on the surface and deliberately raised her voice: "In that case, let's sleep together."
"I'm going to lie down now."
"I want to lie down next to you now."
"I'm really going to lie down now!"
Xiao Qiyu remained completely still.
Cui Ying gritted her teeth and deliberately slumped onto the couch, lying down right next to him, even using the same pillow.
Embroidered on the top of the tent were two lifelike mandarin ducks with intertwined necks, their tender affection almost overflowing and filling the entire red tent. The scents of the two people gradually intertwined in the silence, the refreshing scent of soapberry combined with a sweet fragrance, lingering together, inseparable.
Cui Ying originally wanted to do something even more outrageous to Xiao Qiyu, such as whispering "Brother Qilang" in his ear, or simply putting her arm around his.
But she clearly overestimated her patience.
Just lying next to Xiao Qiyu, she already had to use all her strength to control herself from leaning towards him.
The word "patience" has a knife above it. In order to reclaim the bed, Cui Ying forced herself to close her eyes, her chest rising and falling with her breath.
After she closed her eyes, Xiao Qiyu quietly opened one eye, his gaze falling on her trembling long eyelashes, and silently counted in his mind:
"One, two..."
"three."
Cui Ying suddenly opened her eyes.
Xiao Qiyu quickly closed his eyes.
Cui Ying sat up straight and glared angrily at the person next to her: "Xiao Qiyu, have you forgotten that we were just pretending?"
She had been lying next to him for so long, how come he didn't react at all?
He should have yelled and screamed, jumped out of bed in one breath, and then stayed away from her all night!
Hearing Cui Ying's exasperated voice, Xiao Qiyu kept his eyes closed, his expression calm, with only a slight upturn at the corners of his mouth.
Cui Ying, unable to bear it any longer, rolled over and got off the bed: "Go or don't go, I don't like sleeping in this lousy bed anyway. Cui Jin? Cui Jin!"
As soon as Cui Jin came in, Cui Ying said, "Go and get me a set of bedding, the softest one possible, and hurry up!"
The newlyweds slept in separate beds on the second day of their marriage. Cui Jin was already worried about her daughter, but she dared not ask at this time and could only do as she was told.
Once the bedding arrived, Cui Ying personally made a makeshift bed on the floor. As she did so, she muttered under her breath, gritting her teeth, "Very well, Xiao Qiyu, you win. From now on, you sleep on the bed and I'll sleep on the floor. We'll keep to ourselves. Whoever crosses the line first is a dog!"
Xiao Qiyu finally opened his eyes, his gaze cold and indifferent as he looked at Cui Ying, and he scoffed, "I couldn't ask for more."
After making the bed, Cui Ying was already covered in a fine sweat. She originally wanted to go directly to the magnolia screen to wash herself, but halfway there she remembered something, turned around and ran to the bedside, picked up her beloved storybook, glanced at Xiao Qiyu as if guarding against a thief, and threw it on the floor, even weighing it down with a pillow.
Xiao Qiyu was amused and said sarcastically, "What good stuff? Who would want to look at it?"
Cui Ying snorted coldly, glared at him, and went behind the screen to take a bath.
Upon hearing the sound of water, Xiao Qiyu immediately jumped off the bed, grabbed the storybook from under his pillow, and began to slowly and methodically read it.
"The Celestial Hound and King Zhou... and King Zhou is a woman, what kind of nonsense is this? What is Cui Ying looking at all day long?"
Xiao Qiyu frowned and tossed the storybook aside.
A moment later—
That's a strange thing.
Take one more look.
Xiao Qiyu picked up the storybook again, and as he turned the pages, his eyes involuntarily continued to read, and he murmured aloud:
"Di Xin approached Xiaotian Dog, his slender jade fingers landing on the cold, hard lines of the dog's jaw, then extending downwards along the jaw, his fingertips sliding towards the firm waist and abdomen, circling the well-defined muscles..."
"Di Xin, with a dreamy look in his eyes and alluring red lips, smiled at the Celestial Hound and said, 'What guardian hound? It's just a little white-furred, slender-waisted puppy. Little puppy, don't go back to heaven. Stay by my side, and I'll bestow upon you the title of Slender-Waisted General, shall I?'"
The Slender-Waisted General...
Xiao Qiyu got goosebumps all over.
He shoved the storybook back under his pillow as if he had thrown away a hot potato, and took a couple of deep breaths.
After catching his breath, he couldn't help but look at the storybook.
Never mind, let me take one last look.
The lamplight flickered, and the boy looked serious.
When Cui Ying came out from behind the screen after taking a bath, the first thing she saw was Xiao Qiyu sitting cross-legged on the bed, holding his own storybook.
"Xiao, Qi, Yu!"
Cui Ying pounced on him like a hungry tiger, ignoring the fact that her white silk dress was loose and thin, revealing her snow-white breasts. She straddled his waist and started punching him: "Are you crazy?! You sleep on the bed when I sleep on the bed, you steal my bed when I sleep on the floor, and you even dared to peek at my storybook! Give me back my storybook!"
Xiao Qiyu took several punches, all aimed at his face. His mouth was cut by the teeth, and he could vaguely taste the blood. But he didn't rush to fight back. Instead, he raised his arm and held the storybook high. His narrow phoenix eyes were slightly narrowed, and he said in a lazy tone, "You still have the nerve to say that? What kind of nonsense is this? Cui Ying, tell me, has your brain been ruined by reading this stuff?"
Cui Ying's fair face flushed instantly at the thought of the steamy and erotic content in the storybook. She reached out to snatch the book, moving her legs from Xiao Qiyu's waist to his chest: "You don't know anything! A wild boar can't appreciate fine food! Give me back my storybook!"
"I won't give it to you, what can you do about it?"
As if deliberately trying to provoke her, Xiao Qiyu stretched her arm out even longer, making it impossible for Cui Ying to touch it no matter how hard she tried.
"You bastard!" Cui Ying was furious, her face flushed red. Seeing the storybook getting further and further away from her, she simply leaned forward, her entire upper body almost pressed against Xiao Qiyu's face, in order to stretch her arms out further.
Xiao Qiyu was only interested in angering Cui Ying, while Cui Ying was only interested in storybooks.
Neither of them realized just how intimately their bodies were pressed together.
Until the sweet fragrance of a daughter filled Xiao Qiyu's nostrils.
Until the delicate, alabaster-like texture touched his cheek.
Xiao Qiyu looked up, and the tip of his nose brushed against the delicate embroidery on Cui Ying's chest.
