"Do you know the way?" Qin Zhongquan followed Gary closely and asked while looking around.
The latter touched his head with his hand and replied, "I don't know. But... let me think about it. Oh, by the way, turn on the wind direction counter."
Seconds later, the surrounding air currents transformed into countless dotted lines, displayed on their helmet displays. The lines formed graceful curves, swirling several times between the two men before drifting off into the distance. Overall, the lines weren't chaotic; most of them came from above and then flowed diagonally downward, like a long, flowing river.
Logically speaking, such a large space must have heat convection, but judging from the information obtained from the sensors on the two people's exoskeletons, all the water vapor is gathering in one place - so it is obvious that there is a ventilation system in this space, and the water vapor does not all come from the evaporation of the pool.
The two men, one in front and one behind, continued forward, following the wind. The thick fog blocked their perception. Even when they stepped on the metal covered bridge, the sound was difficult to reach their ears. All they could hear was the rumble of the exoskeleton's shock absorbers. The visibility here was so low that Qin Zhongquan's field of vision was even smaller than his psychic perception. He occasionally had illusions - every time he took a step forward, the fog in front of him would retreat, and the fog behind him would follow suit, as if the thick fog had become the third person in the team.
"Why do I feel that the mist is getting thicker?"
"No, I think the view is getting better."
"That's weird, am I seeing things?"
Gary stopped, looked back, and continued walking. "You're wet, remember to wipe it off."
Upon hearing this, Qin Zhongquan wiped his helmet with his hand, and his vision became much clearer.
The two walked for about an hour and came to a closed gate. The airflow ended here and turned downward. They could already hear the noise of the exhaust fan.
"This gate... seems a bit like those in the asteroid belt?"
"Yeah, didn't I say that before? Let me see..." Gary slowly walked to the left side of the gate and found a card reader in good working order. "Oh, I need an employee card or password. Do you have a decoder?"
Qin Zhongquan shook his head, but he still stepped forward, squeezing half a body away from Gary. "We don't need to go through so much trouble here," he said, slamming his fist on the card reader.
Almost at the same time, the gate's normally open protection mechanism appeared. The light split the gate in half from the middle, and the two iron plates slid open to both sides, allowing outside air to flow into the interior while generating a lot of noise.
The alarm sounded synchronously with the opening of the gate, making the entire underground space bustling with activity for a moment.
"Who?"
"Protect the emperor! Protect the emperor!"
"Boom boom boom, click click click..."
The chaos lasted only a short while, and soon only the mechanical noise lingered in everyone's ears.
Gary stuck his head out and took a look, only to find that the narrow covered bridge ahead had been blocked by several rows of fully armed soldiers, with dozens of automatic rifles pointed directly at him. He was so frightened that he immediately retracted his neck.
"Fuck! Old Qin, you're in trouble! You're in big trouble!"
"What's going on outside? Isn't there anyone here?" Qin Zhongquan pretended to go out and take a look.
"No, no, no!" Gary grabbed him and held him down. "Those are the Royal Guards. There are a lot of them. Even if we bring all our weapons this time, we can't defeat them!"
"They don't know us, don't know where we come from, and don't know how dangerous we are," said Qin Zhongquan.
"Yes, so if they kill us, our deaths will be in vain!" Gary deliberately exaggerated his words.
Qin Zhongquan pulled Gary's hand away, banged it twice on the iron plate, and then turned up the volume on the exoskeleton's loudspeaker. "Hey! Listen up, everyone on the other side. You're surrounded! If you don't want to die, push that important person behind you out! We need to talk!"
