"Is this a threat?"
"This is advice. It's a lesson learned from the past." Changgu rolled his eyes and glanced at the pool of blood in the distance.
"I see, but where did you learn that idiom?"
"Before the war, I had a college degree. You can see it if you want, I've kept it. I was looking for a job back then. I had just run to the underground parking lot when a nuclear bomb hit near me. It was so hot, I almost roasted myself. Luckily, I survived."
"Then how did you become the tribal chief..." Li Wenjia was still very interested, and he waved goodbye to the other people in the team.
"That has to start with the red moon in the north. He just appeared out of nowhere, just like you guys." Changgu took him to sit by the campfire, and started chatting with him while he ate the dancing flames and roasted rat meat.
"Is that the Red Moon? I've heard this name at least ten times in the past few days."
Longbones nodded, turning the rat meat on the shelf over, and continued, "I was in the North at the time. Most of the people here are native to that area. After the war, we rebuilt social order in the subway. That was our happiest time. There was always work to do every day."
"It's distributed according to demand! How long have you been doing this?" Li Wenjia remembered that he had a box of chocolates in his backpack, so he took it out and distributed it to everyone present.
Changgu's eyes moistened. He slowly savored the chocolate in his hand, recalling the events of that time. After about two minutes, he spoke, "Forty days. Then the red moon appeared. The administrators at the time changed overnight. Then came endless oppression and resistance. I couldn't stand the situation there anymore, so I escaped with a few friends."
"So where did they go later?"
"In the mutant's belly." Longbone grinned, tears dripping from his black eyes. "There were hundreds of us who escaped at the beginning, but the number was reduced by half every time we crossed a mountain. I wanted to stop, but they kept pushing me to run. So I kept running, and running. In the end, only we were left."
