Chapter 2: One Shot, Three Inspections

The exoskeleton maintenance process was far from over. After Huang Lun vented his anger, he turned around and went back.

On the other side of the mine, Zhang Linhai was relaxing in an ergonomic chair. Although the environment here wasn't great, he knew how to enjoy himself and had managed to find a good place.

This was the mine's main control room. On the wall directly opposite Zhang Linhai was a massive integrated LED display. All the pipelines were green, a sign of excellent performance—even with the production capacity forced to increase by another fifteen points, the hardware had withstood the test.

"How boring! If only they couldn't meet their production targets, I wouldn't have to work shifts," Zhang Linhai thought grimly. But it didn't matter as long as they completed their tasks. The indicators here were quite good, and next month, he could apply for a transfer from this position, and maybe even get a promotion. So he didn't bother to bother the workers.

Of course, this wasn't Zhang Linhai being kindhearted. In reality, he was always looking for reasons to keep others busy. It was easy to understand: as long as others were busy, he felt relaxed, but once they were idle, countless chores would come his way. He particularly hated those trivial "things." He was the mine manager, not their nanny or housekeeper!

"Dongdongdong~"

Hearing the knock on the door, Zhang Linhai immediately sat up straight, with his hands on his chin, exuding the aura of a serious and earnest thinker.

"Come in!"

The person who opened the door was a man carrying a pot of tea. Seeing the person, Zhang Linhai immediately relaxed and leaned back in his chair. Then, he asked lazily towards the door, "How do you feel?"

The person who came was none other than Wang Renxing. Upon hearing Mr. Zhang's words, he quickly walked over to the desk, placed the tea kettle on the table, and filled a cup for Zhang Linhai before replying, "They're too inefficient. We should replace some of them! And that Xiao Li, I think he's capable of a management position!"

Zhang Linhai shook his head and gestured for Wang Renxing to turn around. "Look at the screen on the wall! Your excuse isn't very convincing. You need to think about it again... And what about Xiao Li? What benefits did he give you? Why didn't I see them?"

Wang Renxing stared at the screen, his pupils shrinking slightly, and then his face froze. But that expression didn't last long, and he returned to his original smile. "It's like this, Xiao Li's family seems to be a leading local enterprise..."

"Oh! You're talking about that!" Zhang Linhai hammered his thigh, as if suddenly realizing something. "I was negligent, Comrade Xiao Wang! I'll have to take more responsibility for supporting the younger generation in the future~"

Wang Renxing nodded repeatedly and then asked, "Have Qin Le and the others returned?"

Zhang Linhai frowned. "Why are you asking them? That's where you're wrong. The comrades are all very busy. Don't disturb them if you don't have anything to do!"

Wang Renxing hesitated again, then seemed to have figured something out. He gave Zhang Linhai a look that said "you know what I mean" and retreated from his secret base thoughtfully.

Zhang Linhai waited until the footsteps behind the door faded before rising from his chair. He bent down and picked up a small brown leather bag from the floor. He expertly opened it, revealing several small, golden yellow croakers. "Wow, what a generous gift!" He pulled one out of the bag and held it up to the light for a closer inspection. The words "Li's" were clearly engraved on the small yellow croaker.

He returned to his chair and placed the gifts in the drawer under his desk. He then dialed the communicator and shouted, "Uncle Baoding! Call Ma Si and Lao Qi and tell them I have something to ask!"

On the other end of the communicator was Chen Baoding, who was currently tuning up his new car in the engine room. The engine noise echoed through the empty room, creating an unusually loud din. However, he ignored the noise; evidently, he had some hearing impairment.

In the past, people with this condition would not be able to participate in related work, but now it is not a big problem, because today's hearing aids are much more advanced than before. And if they want, they can even filter out some sounds.

Chen Baoding can be regarded as Zhang Linhai's guide, but his ambition is not to climb to a higher position. Rather than continuing to engage in intrigue in officialdom, he prefers his current comfortable life.

"Got it~" he replied slowly, then turned off the communicator and placed it back on the iron rack nearby. He wasn't entirely satisfied with the megaphone's performance, so he decided to put it on hold for now. Of course, Zhang Linhai on the other side also knew about this, so neither of them was in a rush.

They will give very low priority to such things that have nothing to do with themselves, and there is no need to give perfect answers. It is good enough as long as they pass.

His new vehicle was actually a transporter. Of course, it was public property, and Chen Baoding didn't have the money to spare for something this large. Fortunately, he could borrow the mining district's rations. The extra exoskeletons weren't very useful anyway, and a transporter was far more useful than those exoskeletons.

What? You're saying exoskeletons are the last line of defense for workers? Ha, what does it have to do with me if they lose their lives? I'm just a driver!

This underground transport vehicle has excellent protection capabilities. At the same time, its power comes from a huge rechargeable battery, which can perfectly adapt to the working environment here.

Owning a car like this was like realizing his childhood dream. He planned to drive the car to look for the two guys. He remembered that they said yesterday that they wanted to go downstairs to check out the mining area's main engine. He didn't know where they were now.
