Chapter 24 Armed Raid

"It doesn't matter. We will definitely find them before they see us." Li Gang replied in a calm tone. At this moment, he was indeed a war machine.

"The temperature is now -23 degrees Celsius, wind direction south-west, wind speed force 4..." The voice broadcast from the vehicle's artificial intelligence came over the communicator. The tanks they received had been modernized by the workers. Although the passenger compartment was slightly smaller, it was fully equipped with the most advanced equipment currently in service.

Warfare in this era is actually a process of information, attack, and concealment. If you collect enough battlefield information and analyze it, the enemy will have nowhere to hide; fast, accurate, and deadly strikes can eliminate all enemies that need to be eliminated; and concealment is a necessary means to prevent yourself from being exposed after launching a strike. In the past, it was usually highly mobile equipment, but now it probably means finding a bunker that can hide people.

There is no longer anything in this world that can defend against attacks. Heavy armor is mostly just psychological comfort and a burden.

"How's it going? Did that thing find anything?" Jiang Ling waited in the snow house for a while. The cold weather made her mind feel frozen. To save some energy, she temporarily turned off the heating equipment on her body.

"Hiss~ Huh~" Li Gang was also in the same situation, but his condition was even worse. "Not yet... I heard that some special mutants can block heat signals... or optical signals... Can you do that too?"

"Do I look like that kind of freak to you?" Jiang Ling replied unhappily. "Also, you boast so much about your army, but why did those mutants cause you such a mess before the war?"

"This... Our weapons and equipment are all developed for humans, but we never thought of using them to fight aliens!" Li Gang explained.

"So this is how you view mutants?" Jiang Ling remained noncommittal. "No wonder you're forming a dedicated force."

"Yes, but it was more due to the international situation at the time. At that time, most of us were deployed on the border... A thousand-mile dike was destroyed by an ant hole... How could we have known that the first problem would be in the mainland." Li Gang recalled the situation at the time and sighed.

The reality was even worse than they had anticipated. The mutants quickly mastered the use of human weapons, and soon, these highly intelligent creatures began to use the warfare techniques that humans had mastered to chase the army. Fortunately, a full-scale nuclear war broke out at that time, otherwise, the mutant army that had formed the climate might have launched a new round of genocide.

"Beep, beep!" The alarm on the tactical terminal sounded, forcing the two to end their casual conversation. On the screen, several red boxes marked anomalies detected by the observation equipment. Several kilometers away, a faint heat signal appeared, resembling a human.

"Should we calculate the coordinates? Or wait a little longer? I feel something is wrong." Li Gang analyzed it calmly and still felt something was strange.

"Indeed, we are located in a high-altitude area here, and we should be able to see the area within a dozen kilometers around us. But we have never seen them before. They, they seemed to appear suddenly." Jiang Ling continued his words.

"Do you think they could be bait?" Li Gang asked doubtfully.

"Have you ever seen them do this?" Jiang Ling asked back.

"Let me think... I remember it was April 3rd... Yes, it should be April 3rd. I was on a mission with my old driver. We met two people who were squatting on the side of the road without saying a word. After we passed them, I wanted to get off to see what was going on. But the old driver wouldn't let me get off. He said that the right thing to do in this situation was to just ignore it. Now that I think about it, what he said makes sense. There is no guarantee that civilians appearing on the battlefield are not enemies in disguise." Li Gang said, with a look of regret on his face.

"Is there anything in common?" Jiang Ling asked doubtfully.

"Yes, and they look very similar!" Li Gang replied. "We had a total of ten tanks on that mission, but only the one I was in and the one behind me reported seeing civilians on the roadside."

"Could it be that the person in front is seeing things?" Jiang Ling questioned.

"No, we were in the middle of the convoy, and it was morning, already daybreak. None of our comrades saw them. We were later sent to a field hospital for psychological counseling, and they said we were hallucinating." Li Gang paused and continued, "It was definitely not a hallucination. Our tanks had recorders on them, and they were recording. Even if you can't believe your own eyes, at least you have to trust the equipment."

The two exchanged glances. Jiang Ling confirmed that his mind was still under her control, so she said, "Then let's contact them first. Can those people intercept our communications?"

Li Gang shook his head. Wearing protective clothing, any body language would have to be extremely exaggerated to be noticed. "No, today's tactical communicators are all quantum communication, and the confidentiality is superb!"

The communicator was quickly connected, and Zhou Xiangyang's voice came from it: "They showed up? Then I'll immediately..."

"No, don't worry!" Li Gang hurriedly stopped him. "A group of people is coming from the north, about four kilometers away from us. But they don't look like the mutants from yesterday."

"So you want to confirm it?" Ruan Danxin's voice came over. "I suggest you fire a round to test the waters. What's the term for it? Firepower reconnaissance?"
