Chapter 27 Second Trial (Part 2)

Time was running out, and Li Wenjia and the many modified cars following behind him had no way to stop.

Thirty kilometers might not seem like much. Before the war, sports cars that could easily reach 200 mph might have taken only ten minutes to complete the journey. However, with the current road conditions, even without considering how fast one could drive, simply arriving safely required an all-out effort.

After adding together various factors such as natural disasters and man-made disasters, the success rate of this operation is almost impossible in terms of probability.

Those who were accidentally caught up on the way might be rescued or even save themselves if they were closer to the edge of the strike zone; but if they were too far away, they would be in great danger.

Li Wenjia narrowly avoided a landslide. Part of this highway was located halfway up the mountain, and it also intersected with the mountain tunnel of the highway. Of course, a nuclear warhead would not miss this important transportation route.

Due to the lack of necessary communication, he could only follow the tire tracks in front of him. This led to a problem: if the person in front made any small mistakes, the person behind him would have to bear the consequences.

Fortunately, their journey went smoothly. After Li Wenjia was ambushed several times, he finally saw a beam of red light in the white snow fog.

According to the plan, when the obstacle-clearing vehicles that set off first reach the end point, they will be controlled to stop at the sharp bend and use red signal lights to alert the vehicles behind.

Li Wenjia breathed a sigh of relief, but he still didn't stop. He had to drive a few more kilometers before he could slow down.

There might still be sporadic drones or other triggered reconnaissance devices at the edge of the strike zone. While the hunter-killers wouldn't learn to change themselves, the humans who created them had considered every aspect. From the beginning, the enemies they faced were always the smartest in the world.

Although the road ahead was not so dangerous, without the help of the obstacle course vehicle, vehicle wreckage left over from the war began to appear on the road, and Li Wenjia almost crashed into it.

With a teeth-grinding sound of metal friction, the left front wheel bumper of the Fighter III was twisted into a knot.

When Li Wenjia came to his senses, he found that the roll cage on his left side was also deformed. Fortunately, he was unharmed, and the dead pig next to him finally woke up.

"Oh my! Ah! What time is it now?" Lu Xianwu grabbed the roll cage with one hand, straightened himself up, and said in panic.

"Hey! You're awake? Congratulations, you have become a girl!" Li Wenjia answered unhappily.

Hearing the familiar voice, Lu Xianwu turned his head to the left and said in surprise: "You, you, you, why are you still here?"

"What? You think I can't be... Shit!"

Li Wenjia swerved the steering wheel to the right, and both were simultaneously pulled to the left by inertia. The edge of the car practically made contact with the rock face on the left. The car bounced twice on the snow, then made another sharp left turn, with the left wheel hanging in mid-air, nearly flipping over.

Li Wenjia no longer dared to be distracted, while the other person clung to the seat tightly.

They stumbled forward for more than ten minutes, finally reaching a relatively empty section of road before the paint was scraped clean. Li Wenjia slowly slowed down the car, reducing it to a speed that was acceptable to ordinary people.

"Brother, what did you do yesterday to be so tired?"

"Nothing, I just want to go to bed when it's time. I stayed up late last night. So what time is it now?"

"Ask the system. The exoskeleton has offline time! I also want to know what time it is now!" The civilian version of the exoskeleton on Li Wenjia does not have functions above the neck.

Lu Xianwu got the hint. He quickly reached out his hand, tapped the air a few times, and then exclaimed, "Fuck! It's already three in the morning! Where am I now?"

"On the way to Fuling." Li Wenjia answered casually.

"Already on the way? No, what did you just say? Where to? Fuling District? That's the farthest place! Are you crazy?"

Lu Xianwu became nervous. Could it be that he was waking up to find himself roasting on a fire?

"Are you scared?"

"No, I'm not afraid," Lu Xianwu said slowly. "I'm saying our success rate is too low. The straight-line distance from Fuling District to the strike zone is 50 kilometers. At our current speed, just one round trip would take half a day. We have too little time, and the risk is too great!"

"What's their estimated success rate?"

“Less than 5 percent.”

"Is it the success rate of obtaining intelligence, or the success rate of returning safely?"

"It's the success rate of leaving the body intact..." Lu Xianwu answered word by word.

"That's enough. Do you know Murphy's Law?"

"Of course, after all, I'm a top student who graduated from the police academy!"

"Although the applicable scenario isn't quite accurate," Li Wenjia said, feeling the gradually weakening wind. "But from the perspective of game theory, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. And there's a probability of success, and that probability means it can definitely be accomplished."

"You're just sophistry! Have you ever considered that we are the part outside of probability? I don't even know where we will die!"

"Have you ever considered that we are part of the probability? No, we are already part of the probability. At least you survived the genetic mutation and the full-scale nuclear war, and now you are still alive to chat with me! Why can't you think that we are just the lucky ones who can survive to complete the mission?"
