He put on the ill-fitting shoes and continued on his way. The surrounding scenery was unremarkable. Apart from the silicate materials that were everywhere on Earth, there were only giant steel monsters tens of meters long.
This time, the industrial robots showed little interest in him, and even avoided him when he passed by them.
Li Wenjia felt like he was really screwed. If he had known it would be like this, he shouldn't have brought those equipment in!
Time continued to pass, and when Li Wenjia counted to seven thousand seconds, he finally saw his destination - the train station halfway up the mountain.
He didn't think much about it, and in fact, he couldn't think much about it. He just quickened his pace. The outer clothes he wore were actually no different from those of the refugees in the ruins. If he was discovered by those living underground, the most he would do was to be expelled.
He eagerly crossed two blocks and then climbed over the residential wall. This almost parkour-like route allowed him to quickly close the distance between him and his destination. Just when he was about to reach his destination, a factory blocked his way.
Li Wenjia was stunned for a moment, then slowed down and walked to the edge of the wall. He took a running start and jumped onto the wall, looking into the factory. Then, he immediately jumped back to his original position, and with a speed even faster than when he came, he hid under a low wall.
Something was amiss inside the factory. No one was outside, but the noise of machinery inside indicated it was operating. Who maintained this factory? And what was it producing that warranted such a huge expense to keep it running above ground?
Li Wenjia claims that he is not a thief and he plans to visit here openly.
He continued walking south along the wall, then turned left on a wide city road. After walking a few hundred steps, he saw the factory gate was open.
Several of the same industrial robots I'd seen before were parked near the main entrance. The entrance was streaked with ice and snow, shaped by gravity. These were the marks of the tracks. Looking inside, a number of suitcase-sized, rectangular robots were scurrying across the open space previously blocked by the factory buildings.
An idea popped into Li Wenjia’s mind—maybe this factory was really the legendary fully automatic factory?
He hesitated at the door. An automated factory doesn't mean unmanned. On the contrary, such a factory only requires more managers. They need to make all those different types of robots work together, and the mental effort required is far greater than managing ordinary workers.
Furthermore, researchers believe that the possibility of such a system failing is inevitable, so it requires a more effective error correction system. However, such an error correction system has not yet been created by humans, or in other words, such an error correction system can only be created by humans themselves.
Li Wenjia didn't know whether there was such a system here. If there wasn't, his appearance would inevitably break the fragile program loop and eventually shut down the entire factory. If there was, he, an uninvited guest, would inevitably arouse the vigilance of those managers, and what would happen then would be completely unpredictable.
Of course, he didn't ask the shabby question, "Is it worth it?" He was simply analyzing his chances of survival after breaking in. Automated systems undoubtedly have security measures. This is a very real fact, just like a street vending machine. It certainly retains basic self-protection capabilities, but its methods may need to adapt to local laws and social conditions.
However, the region had just experienced war.
Li Wenjia weighed the options for a moment, and finally made up his mind. Since he was already here, he had to go in and take a look. The reason? A business inspection!
He leisurely stepped through the doorway, the metal guide rails of the electric retractable door missing, and with his hands behind his back, he slowly entered the factory. The suitcases completely ignored his presence, following their predetermined path, leaving tracks in the snow. The factory remained unchanged by his presence; everything remained in perfect order.
Li Wenjia walked towards the factory. The sensor door quietly opened as he approached. The factory was not particularly noisy. There were three production lines running, but an airtight partition wall prevented him from observing further.
Through the glass, he saw machines he had never seen before being assembled on the production line. He followed the conveyor belt as he went deeper into the long corridor. The machines became increasingly sophisticated, looking as if they had been meticulously adjusted by a master designer.
He finally stopped in front of a barrier door marked "No Entry for Outsiders", while the machines were transported further inside by conveyor belts.
He put his hand on the door handle, thought for a moment, and put it back.
In fact, the information he had was enough, so he didn't need to take the risk to find out. He still remembered the purpose of his trip, to find out about a certain product, which could only be considered a small branch of the mission objective.
He retreated along the same path he had come in, and returned to the open space. His "normal" behavior did not alert the robot, so the outside looked exactly the same as when he came in.
Without him noticing, several surveillance cameras slowly aimed at him and some electrical signals were transmitted.
Li Wenjia planned to go to the warehouse to take a look. Maybe the products were placed there in boxes.
It wouldn't be too much to ask to go there and take a look at the samples, right?
He glanced around the open space, spotted a building that looked like a warehouse, and walked towards it at his usual pace.
