Chapter 37: Pulling Teeth from a Tiger's Mouth

"Attention, No. 509, we're about to release the decoy. We've reset the decoy's course. They'll be maneuvering in a figure eight pattern about 20 meters in front of the submarine. Please avoid them." Jiang Ling shared Lao Xiao's voice recording with Ning Weihe.

After a while, the wake of the bait device hit the protruding part of Jiang Ling's exoskeleton, causing the two of them to move a small amount.

Four child-size torpedoes headed toward their designated route, staggered along the way, forming a string. Their unique propulsion system produced a great deal of noise. Their speed was very slow, only about one or two knots, but the distance here was too short, and they quickly reached their designated location.

The decoys shuttled through the beams of light, looking from a distance like courting bees. Their wakes created bubbles that refracted some of the light, obscuring vision to some extent.

Jiang Ling saw the creature stretching its body, trying to reach the moving target that emitted a fishy smell not far away. This reminded her of the unruly cat she used to raise. Every time they ate shrimp, it would jump onto the table and try to use its cat claws to pick the shrimp shells out of the bowl.

Of course, it can't do either.

Distance is a natural barrier, and distance is eternity.

The unidentified mutant tried several times, then seemed to be exhausted. Its muscles contracted, and the middle part of several tentacles began to swell. When they expanded to a limit, there was a "pop" sound—of course, there was no such sound—the tentacles instantly shrank back to their original shape and expelled several dark red objects.

Jiang Ling's pupils contracted rapidly, and her super reaction ability allowed her to see clearly those things flying through the sea.

Their shape is similar to that of a harpoon, a typical low-drag design with a sharp tip, a rounded middle, and a slender tail, about 20 centimeters in length. As they move through the sea, they constantly break apart due to overload, and these fragments contribute positively to their trajectory stability.

They accurately hit the moving decoy device, and one of them exploded, but the impact on 509 was minimal.

"Reporting on the effectiveness of the decoy device... We witnessed its attack method. I believe it is extremely dangerous and its control level should be increased." Jiang Ling shared her vision with Lao Ning and offered her thoughts.

"What do you want to do?" Lao Ning asked fearfully, remembering the last time he worked with her.

“You know how they used to pull kids’ teeth? They’d buy some firecrackers, the kind you see in middle school history textbooks. They’d wrap a string around the firecrackers, tie the other end to the kid’s tooth, and then, boom, their tooth would go up in the air. That’s what I’m going to do,” she replied.
