Chapter 95: Thinking Change (I)

"Is there something wrong with them?" Liu Haiyang stared at the crowd for a long moment, unable to pinpoint any underlying flaws. No matter how he thought about it, he couldn't detect any abnormalities in their behavior. Even using his psychic abilities, which he was adept at, didn't yield any results.

So he repeated the question: "Do they still have questions?"

"Tsk, let me put it another way." Jiang Ling covered his eyes with her hands. "After I let go of my hands, take another look and tell me which unit they look like they're from."

"Ready, three, two, one..."

Liu Haiyang, his sight restored, squinted his eyes, observing the men's demeanor as if watching a fire from the other side of the river. Then, he subconsciously said, "They are—the army? No, wait, but why is that? Why do they look like the army?"

"See the problem? This is the crux of the matter."

[Why? Why, why?] Thousands of "whys" flashed through Liu Haiyang's mind. He couldn't figure out the reason for this result for a while, but after ruling out human influence, he accepted the current situation.

"Are you wondering why they aren't the Air Force or some other branch of the military?" Jiang Ling sighed again. "We can analyze this a little bit. Where should we start? Right, first of all, we humans, from the past to the present and into the future, have always been terrestrial creatures."

"Well, you're saying we're not naturally adapted to the cosmic environment?"

"That's about right. We have always only allowed a very small number of human elites to go into space. They usually don't stay in the universe for a full year, and there has never been anyone born in space. So fundamentally speaking, we are not suitable for survival in the universe." Jiang Ling said slowly.

"But humans are very adaptable!" Liu Haiyang countered. "We can learn to work and live in different environments through rigorous training. It's just a matter of passing on survival experience. Perhaps after we enter space on a large scale, our descendants can quickly learn the knowledge of living in space through the words and deeds of the older generation. There are many ready-made examples, such as the Bajau people who are born with the ability to dive, and the Inuit who live in temperatures dozens of degrees below zero year-round. They can't be born with those abilities. Many skills that seem unbelievable are actually the result of acquired learning."

"Yes, but those are our descendants. I also hope that our descendants can conquer the universe," said Jiang Ling.

"Okay, I agree with this, is there anything else?" Liu Haiyang shrugged.

Jiang Ling was silent for a moment before speaking, "Just now you mentioned that we need rigorous training. Now think back to how we train. They break down the possible dangers in the universe into their own categories, and then let us experience and get used to them one by one, either in person or virtually."

"Is there any problem with this? I think it's very reasonable." Liu Haiyang interrupted.

“Yes, everyone thinks it’s reasonable.”

"You mean, we can't simulate everything on Earth?" Liu Haiyang seemed to understand what she meant, but immediately objected. "That's impossible. Our extraterrestrial exploration technology is already very mature. We established a permanent base on the moon and an unmanned mapping network on Mars a long time ago!"

"See, I'm right, right? Everyone thinks it makes sense," Jiang Ling emphasized. "Gaining life experience is a long process. An adult with a well-rounded worldview can't completely change their lifestyle with just one or two years of special training."
