Chapter 30 Second Trial (V)

The imagined pain didn't come, and Li Wenjia thought he was dead. During his struggle, he clearly saw the object's appearance - it was a mechanical hound.

He got up from the ground and saw only a sliver of metallic shit (anti-harmony) disappearing around the corner in the distance.

"What the hell?"

Li Wenjia quickly checked himself and found that besides a few healing scratches, the only thing missing was his waist bag. The waist bag itself was not worth much, nor was it an important item, but what was inside was his most precious treasure.

That was the first thing he received, the artificial intelligence data backup for the exoskeleton, and he treated it like his wife. As a typical Republic soldier, it was normal for him to cherish his weapons and equipment like his wife.

Furthermore, while exoskeletons are defined as consumables, the trained software is incredibly expensive. It's like soldiers in a war: new recruits are cheap, but veterans who have experienced war, earned merit, and are still intact can no longer be simply valued in monetary terms.

So when Li Wenjia found out that the dog was a thief, he immediately chased after it without saying a word.

The scene changed rapidly. Li Wenjia ran around the corner and saw the nasty thief turning down another path. The busy transport robots did not follow the route on the ground, but as if they had foreseen the situation, they made way for the man and the dog.

He thought it was just a program setting, so he didn't think much about it and continued along the path.

After turning left, turn left again, and after turning right, turn right again.

The dog seemed to be very familiar with the environment here, and it was even using a clever way to guide Li Wenjia towards an unpredictable direction. However, Li Wenjia knew nothing about this, and he just wanted to get his treasure back.

A man and a dog walked through the factory and then slipped out from a broken wall somewhere at the back of the factory.

The view gradually opened up, and Li Wenjia was finally able to use all his strength. However, the snow here seemed to have been left uncleared and had accumulated thickly. He could hardly move in the two-meter-deep snow, but the four-legged dog walked on it as if it were flat ground.

How can two legs outrun four? Humans have never relied on speed to win.

Why not turn into a monster? Li Wenjia doesn't want to walk his bird in the snow.

Seeing that silver-gray butt moving farther and farther away, he couldn't help but feel anxious, but he had no other options now and could only try his best to distinguish the footprints on the ground.

The footprints were not shallow, indicating the dog's considerable weight. A normal dog wouldn't be able to walk this way, but this mechanical dog's power was equally immense; it could easily dig a tunnel through the snow.

But it didn't do that. Instead, it jumped forward in the snow like a normal dog, as if it was programmed to do so.

The mechanical hounds' walking mechanisms were typical bionic structures, resembling those expensive pre-war military dogs, with their adorable paw pads. However, unlike ordinary dogs, these mechanical hounds varied in height, weight, and form. They were mass-produced on an assembly line, with virtually no difference between individual units.

What if the thief is a gang member and gets help from his fellow thieves while escaping?

Li Wenjia was alone and he couldn't follow multiple footprints.

He crawled slowly through the snow, the snow beneath him like fluffy cotton, completely sapping his strength. This snow, brought by the blizzard, was so soft and soft that it couldn't withstand any pressure. It would take at least a dozen days of freezing and thawing before it could develop enough strength to support an animal's weight.

Every step forward took Li Wenjia several times the effort of moving forward to pull his back foot out of the snow. He felt like he was wasting time. Since walking was so time-consuming and energy-consuming, why not learn from the animals?

He paused and glanced around. After making sure no one was hiding, he bent down, crouched, and prepared to jump. He mentally replayed the action twice, then swiftly exerted force on his legs.

A 1.8-meter-tall humanoid creature, like a scallion pulled up from dry land, soared into the air from the pure white world. He stretched out his limbs in mid-air, made an ugly toad-like posture, and drew an arc in the air.

"Puff~"

Li Wenjia regained his footing. In those brief seconds, he had completed a textbook leap. He turned back to estimate the distance—the crater created by the jump was at least ten meters away. Calculating the cost, he realized the cost-effectiveness of this move was an order of magnitude higher than simply traveling.

Okay, let’s use this method!

Li Wenjia raised the corner of his mouth, and his body began to repeat the previous movements according to his consciousness. Soon, he saw that the footprints became fresher, which meant that he would soon catch up with the thief.

"Stop, don't move! Hand it over..."

Before he could finish his words, Li Wenjia bumped his head onto the solid ice.

The footprints stopped at an intersection. Compared to the direction he had come from, the other three directions were much busier. The snow at the intersection had been crushed into ice by various vehicles and creatures, and all of that ice had been cleared to both sides of the road by some kind of road maintenance vehicle.

The thief may have gone directly to the black market, and Li Wenjia's hope of getting his treasure back has become very slim.

"Okay, very good. Are you kidding me?" Li Wenjia was so angry that he laughed. He climbed up the hill made of ice and snow, lay on the reverse slope, and looked around.
